Norman Rockwell 1894-1978
Generations of Americans have chuckled over, shaken their heads in agreement with, or recognized themselves in his homely settings of American life. These paintings are from a series called "The Sporting Life", which focuses on his unique skill to illustrate the twentieth-century life. He painted the US for more than half a century. He also illustrated the old"Saturday Evening Post" with 659 covers. His designs are also seen on calendars, advertisements, posters, and greeting cards.
The grandson of English painter Thomas Hill, born in New York City, Rockwell knew from the age of 14 that he wanted to be an artist. His later subjects ranged from poverty to the space age, from the Peace Corps to the presidents.
