Art Deco

A dynamic graphic design was created in the three decades before World War II, when economic and political upheaval was combined with a wild pursuit of gaiety, luxury and modernism to create Art Deco. This style was seen in posters, magazines, commercial design, books, fashion, costume, fine art, applied art, furniture, sculpture, jewelry and graphic design. Their are some modern elements, and they include-echoing machine and automobile patterns and shapes such as stylized gears and wheels, or natural elements such as sunbursts and flowers. This electic style "Art Deco" derived it's name from the 1925 "Exposition des Arts" in Paris, which celebrated living in the modern world. Art Deco represents a graciousness of form. Architectural examples include The Empire State Building and Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
