Mary Cassatt - American Painter

Mary Cassatt painted what she knew best' Life at home. In the 1800's, it wasn't thought to be proper for well-brought-up women to be seen by themselves at cafes, train stations, or even on city streets. young ladies enjoyed dressing up in their finest gowns, draped in jewels, to attend the opera ( with a chaperone of course). But they wouldn't dream of going backstage to watch the performers rehearse. Because Cassatt was a respectable woman, she simply could not paint the same subjects as her male impressionist friends such as Degas.

Mary Cassatt was also different from Monet and his group in another was... She was an American. This Painting is titled Young Mother Sewing
