Art Nouveau ~ Alfons Mucha
1860-1939
Alfons Mucha is associated with enchanting women, streaming hair, and flowing fabrics. He was one of the most fascinating personalities in art at the turn of the century. Although he is best remembered for decorative graphics, he also was skilled at sculpture, jewelry, interior decorating and utilitarian art.
Art Noveau reflects the highly advanced reproduction techniques of the time, with posters, calendars, prints, magazine and book illustrations. The new printing skills allowed for mass production, which gave the masses more access to the arts.
Mucha was Moravian by birth, but, worked mainly in Paris.
