Geraldine Horton
EASTLAND- Geraldine Mae (Woodars) Horton, our matriarch and North Star, graduated to her next great adventure on Monday, June 26, 2006 after spreading her joy for 87 years, 10 months, and 6 days.
A celebration of life was held on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at the Unity Church in New Braunfels, Texas. Private inurment services will be held at a later date at Eastland Cemetery, assisted by the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home.
Born in Bakersfield, California, she held degrees from both UCLA and USC.
In 1942, she was teaching school in Taft, California when the ladies of Taft sponsored a tea dance for the flying cadets at nearby Gardner Field. It was there she met and fell irrevocably in love with flyboy, Horace Horton, and eloped with him to Carson City, Nevada on June 8, 1942.
Geri had three successful careers: as design/sculptress for Horton Ceramics in Eastland, merchandise manager for Bargain Fair in Denton and teacher/career counselor at Richardson ISD where she was loved by students and faculty alike for her zany antics and colorful hats.
In the 1950Õs she accompanied her husband in their small airplane on adventures to Cuba, Mexico, and Central America. She was fearless.
She had sparkling, mischieveous blue eyes, a powerful intellect, a deep compassion for those in need, kindness toward all things, and a great appreciation for the arts, music and dancing. She was Lucille Ball, Zsa Zsa Gabor, and Amelia Earhart all rolled into one amazing individual.
Geri leaves an enormous hole in the lives of her friends and family: her knight in shining armor for 64 years, Horace E. Horton of New Braunfels; three children, Toni Pryor and her husband, P.W., of Whitesboro, Texas, Donna Byrd and her husband, Jack, of New Braunfels and Mason, James Horton and his wife, Jan, of Austin; five grandchildren, James Harris of Dallas, Jennifer Lyles of New Braunfels, Justin Lyles and his wife Linette of San Diego, California, Daniel Horton, currently attending Georgia Tech, and Andrew Horton of Austin; and two great-grandchildren, Gracie Mae Lyles of New Braunfels and Cole Lyles of San Diego.

Lucille Holladay
SWEETWATER- Lucille Holladay, 94, of Sweetwater died Friday, June 30, 2006 in Austin, Texas.
Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 3, 2006 at the Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home. Rev. James Baker officiated.
Lucille was born on January 20, 1912 in Eastland County, Texas. She was married to Clyde Holladay on July 5, 1936 in Plainview, Texas. She was a longtime resident of Sweetwater, Texas, and a homemaker. She was a member of the Broadway Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Holladay on October 15, 2000.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Littleton of Austin, Texas, Marc and wife, Alexandra Waggoner of Austin, Texas, David and wife, Diane Holladay of Dallas, Texas, Daniel and wife, Amy Holladay of Dallas, Texas, Kristene and husband, Tommy Miller of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; two sisters, Bobbie Womack of Hurst, Texas, and Peggy Bryson of Amarillo, Texas; ten great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Herman Claborn
Herman H. Claborn, 84, of Rising Star, Texas died Sunday, July 2, 2006 at Shannon Hospital in San Angelo, Texas.
Herman was born on April 11, 1922 in Okra, Texas to James Willis and Lula Adams-Claborn. He married Jimmie McCulley on March 21, 1948 in Carbon, Texas. He served in the Army with 96th Inf. during World War II. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Rising Star. He lived in the community for 58 years.
Herman is survived by his wife, Jimmie Claborn of Rising Star, Texas; son, Nikki Claborn of Early, Texas; sister, Laverne Carroll of Tolar, Texas; Grandson, Brandon Carroll of Abilene, Texas; Granddaughter, Bridget Martin of Zephyr, Texas; 6 great grandchildren, Rayleigh Martin; Cole Carroll; Carlee Carroll; Levi Maynard; Wade Hamer; Faith Hamer.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Peggy Ann Claborn; 4 brothers; 2 sister.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00PM, Tuesday, July 4, 2006 at Church of Christ with Terry Jackson officiating. Burial will be in the Rising Star Cemetery in Rising Star, Texas with Higginbotham Funeral Home of Rising Star in Charge.

Lila Faircloth
EASTLAND- Lila Jean Faircloth, 80, of Eastland, died Saturday, July 1, 2006, in Eastland.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, July 6, 2006 in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Eastland with Rev. Paul Howie officiating. Casual dress requested.
Mrs. Faircloth was born on July 7, 1925 in Wellington, Kansas to Charlie Augusta and Margaret (Bebb) Wickery. She was raised in Kansas by her grandparents. She moved to Oklahoma City and worked for Greyhound Bus and various jobs, later moving to Dublin to operate a laundry. She met and married Allen Faircloth on April 21, 1987 in Dublin, where they both worked for the Dublin school. She was a member of the Leon River Cowboy Church. She enjoyed fishing and camping, sight-seeing, collecting salt & pepper shakers and cooking & canning.
Survivors include her husband, Allen Faircloth of Eastland; step-children, Joey and Sharon Faircloth of Abilene, Danny and Kay Faircloth of Baird Texas, Jean Martin if Graham, Debbie and Tommy Myers of Brady; one sister, Mary Scott of Lebo Kansas; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Virginia Rich
EASTLAND- Virginia Garrett Rich of Eastland died Sunday, July 2, 2006 in Abilene.
Graveside services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2006 in the Romney Cemetery with Rev. Sherry Ann Lyle officiating, directed by Edwards Funeral Home of Eastland.
Mrs. Rich was born January 14, 1928 in Waco to Young Pat and Ella Belle (Morrow) Garrett. She was raised in Waco and Denver City and graduated from Seminole High School. She attended Community College in Waco. She married Robert
Thomas Rich on July 16, 1947 in Odessa. They made their home in Odessa and Gaines County, southeast of Denver City, until 1975 when they moved to Eastland County on the Leon River. She was a Nazarene and had taught Sunday School, worked in the Nursery and sang in the church choir. Mrs. Rich, known for her infectious smile, enjoyed telling jokes and was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers.
Mr. Rich preceded her in death on April 24, 1999.
Survivors include 3 sons, Pat Rich of Eastland, and Buster Rich and Chuck Rich both of Denver City; 2 daughters, Mary Traweek of Abilene and Ann Foster of Waco; 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Doyle Parker
Doyle Parker, 77, of Gorman, died Monday, July 3, 2006 in a Fort Worth hospital.
Services were held Monday evening, July 3 at 6 p.m. with Denver Rainey officiating. Burial was at the Parker Graveyard.
Doyle was born August 7, 1928 in Little River, Kansas to Alvin Parker and Nora Williams Parker. He married Ellen Ridens on May 19, 1951 in Gorman. He worked as a telephone lineman for 42 years with different telephone companies. He retired from Comanche County Telephone Company in 1989. He had lived in this area most of his life.
Doyle is survived by his wife, Ellen Parker of Gorman; four daughters, Quita McKillip of Gorman, Becky Parker of DeLeon, Rosanna Shannon of Olden and Doylena Roberts of Gustine; 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and one great-grandson, Kevin Doyle Rice.

Nathan Brown
Nathan Isaiah Brown, 19, passed away Monday, June 26, 2006 in Saginaw, Texas.
Memorial services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 30, 2006 at Eagle's View Church in Saginaw.
Nathan Isaiah Brown was born in Kansas City, Kansas on September 21, 1986. Nathan was a recent graduate of W.E. Boswell High School, Class of 2005. Nathan worked at Bulkmatic Transport Company in Fort Worth. He touched all of his family and friends with his unique perspective on life. He was a loving son who willingly took the time everyday to visit or speak with his mother about the day's events. Nathan was both adventurous and entertaining to everyone who knew him. We will always remember his mischevous sense of humor and selfless practical jokes, and will never be able to look at rubber bands, nachos, or cartoons without fond memories of his antics. We love you Nathan, may God bless you on your next adventure.

Jessie Wiest
EASTLAND- Jessie Wiest, 79, passed away with her family by her side on Tuesday, July 4, 2006.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2006 at the First Baptist Church of Eastland. Interment followed at Hope Cemetery in Henrietta with Dr. Shawn Brewer officiating. Services held under the direction of the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home.
Jessie Genevieve Ryan was born February 15, 1927 in Bellevue, Texas to Charles and Clemmie (Colvin) Ryan. She graduated from Bellevue High School. On January 9, 1946 she married Albert Wiest in Henrietta, Texas. Jessie was a homemaker and helped Albert run the family farm. Later in life, she was employed by Crisp Motor Company of Henrietta until her retirement. She was a committed Christian and a member of First Baptist Church of Eastland.
Jessie was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sisters, Georgie Wetsel, Vera Spears, Imogene McCrary, Beatrice Riddle, and Ila Lazelle Ryan, and her brothers, James Ryan, Frank Ryan, and Arvid Ryan.
Jessie is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Mike Perry of Eastland; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Linda Wiest of Wichita Falls; grandchildren, Brian Perry and Shelley Rinehart of Eastland, Justin Wiest and wife, Kim of Farmville, N.C., and Michelle Trammell and husband, Joseph of Iowa Park. Jessie has great-grandchildren, Jahue, Laci, and Brayden; step-great-grandchildren, Shannon, Crystal, and Harley. Jessie is also survived by a sister-in-law, Ester Wiest of Henrietta; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers serving were Tim Dame, De Gordon, Bobby Cagle, Ron Cagle, Don Bradsahw, and Brad Stephenson.

Gladys Crawley
RANGER- Gladys Larson Crawley, 85, of Ranger passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at Ranger Care Center.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery directed by Edwards Funeral Home in Ranger.
Mrs. Crawley was born on May 14, 1921 in Waco, Texas to Albin and Hildegarde Lindloff Larson. She grew up in Ranger and graduated Salutatorian from Ranger High School and attended Ranger Junior College. She married Price Crawley on November 19, 1939 in Odessa and they lived in Ranger until Price joined the military and moved to Baltimore. After the service they moved back to Ranger and later to Midland where they owned and operated Price Crawley Rexall Drug from 1953 to 1989. When he retired they moved back to Ranger. Gladys was a member of the First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women's Association. Gladys was always very active in the community helping with Meals on Wheels and the Ranger Historical Society. The last years of Price's life she spent taking care of him until his death on December 24, 1996.
Mrs. Crawley is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a son Sterling Price Crawley, Jr. in 1998, and step-mother, Elva Cruse Larson.
She is survived by her daughter Sharon Garner and her husband Lynn of Ranger; and a brother, Fred Larson and his wife Barbara of Waco; two grandsons, Neal Overstreet of San Antonio and Price Overstreet of the Houston area; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family request memorials be made to Meals on Wheels, the Ranger Masonic Lodge or Senior Citizens.

Flora 'Peggy' Koenig
CROSS PLAINS- Flora 'Peggy' Koenig, 92, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at the Canterbury Villa of Cisco Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2006 at the Higginbotham Chapel with Bob Pipes officiating. Burial followed in the Cross Plains Cemetery.
She was born May 5, 1914 in Callahan County, Texas to James Matterson and Amy Elvira (Odell) McMillan. She graduated from Cross Plains High School. She married Oscar Koenig on February 23, 1932 in Coleman, Texas. They were blessed with two children, James O. and Ann. Peggy was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ of Cross Plains.
She was also an avid quilter, enjoyed crochet and learned cake decorating when she was in her sixty's. Peggy enjoyed going to the Senior Citizens Center and playing games with her friends until her health left her unable to get around very well. She will be greatly missed by many.
She is survived by her two children, James Oscar Koenig and wife Lucille of Cross Plains and Georgia Ann Jennings of La Porte; two sisters, Jewel Martin of Abilene and Opal Blakely of Tucson, Arizona; 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, a son-in-law, and 4 grandchildren.

Troy Taylor
RANGER - Troy Taylor, 89, died at his residence Sunday July 2, 2006 in Eastland.
Funeral services were held at 10 AM Thursday, July 6, 2006 at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Ranger with the Rev. Jerry Spears officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger.
Troy was born July 26, 1916 in Salado, TX to James E. Taylor and Emily Cassie Reeves. He graduated high school in San Antonio. As a young adult he worked at the shipping docks in Dallas and began his truck driving career. He drove for Western Gillette and Roadway in Irving from which he retired in 1985. He received many truck driving awards and was the focus of spotlight articles for safety and longevity of his trucking career. He learned to fly airplanes at the age of eight and along with his famous brothers, Dallas Taylor and Jack Terrell Taylor, performed in air shows across the southwest United States. He enjoyed drawing, playing music, raising animals, and all children, especially his own. Troy was a member of a Baptist in San Antonio. He had an infectious laugh and was a friend to everyone. He is preceded in death by a son, John D. Taylor, two brothers, Jack Terrell Taylor and Dallas Taylor, and two sisters, Thelma (Peggy) and Beatrice Taylor.
He is survived by his wife, Bebe, of Ranger; two daughters, Anna Marie Whaley of Eastland and JoAnn Wyatt of Mesquite; a son, Troy Taylor of North Carolina; brothers, Pete Taylor of Oklahoma, Donnie Taylor and wife Button of Texas, Bud Taylor and wife Shirley of Waco, TX, six grandchildren, and three great-grand children.

Mary Underwood
LAKE LEON- Mary Edna Underwood, 85, of Eastland passed away on Saturday July 8, 2006 in a Eastland Hospital. Graveside Services will be 1 PM Monday July 10, 2006 at Murray Cemetery.
Mrs. Underwood was born on November 5, 1920 in Jones County, Texas to Herman and Bertha Hampton. She was a graduate of High School in that area. She married Hulon ÒPeteÓ Underwood over 50 years ago at the Eastland County Courthouse. They lived in this community for some 33 plus years. Mrs. Underwood at one time had worked for a Timex Factory in assembly. She was Church of Christ.
Mrs. Underwood is survived by her husband Hulon ÒPeteÓ Underwood of Eastland and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other expended family.

A.L. Grice
GORMAN - Services for A.L. Grice, 88, of Weatherford, were at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 9, 2006, at the Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alan McGlauchlin officiating. Burial was in the Gorman Cemetery.
Mr. Grice died at his home on Friday, July 7, 2006.
He was born June 6, 1918, to Albert Gice and Dora Mae (McKinnley) Grice. He married Helen Marie Lindsey on June 8, 1981, Weatherford. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Episcopal Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, B.F. Grice; one sister, Lillian Buntin, and a son, Larry Grice.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Helen Grice of Weatherford; a son, Alfred Lee Grice of Somerville; a sister, Lucille Bledsoe of Big Spring; a grandson, Larry Dale Grice of Midlothian; a granddaughter, Melanie Hardick of Mesquite; and two great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Pat Loyd
BAIRD - Services for Pat Loyd, 72, of Baird, were at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2006, in Parker Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Richard H. Wood officiated. Burial was in the Ross Cemetery.
Mrs. Loyd died Tuesday, July 4, 2006, in Abilene Regional Medical Center.
She was born July 27, 1933, in Breckenridge, TX, to William Melton and Christeen Demaster Melton. /She moved to Odessa in 1960, and lived there until moving to Baird in 1996. She received her Bachelor of Science in Art degree from the University of Texas Permian Basin in Odessa.
She was the owner of the Cowboy Country Gallery and Frame Shop in Baird. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
She married Johnny (Bud) Loyd in Clovis, N.M. on September 27, 1949.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.

Willie Crawford
EASTLAND - Willie Crawford, 79, of Eastland, passed away Thursday, July 06, 2006 in Eastland. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2006 at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Eastland City Cemetery.
Mr. Crawford was born on July 19, 1926 in Ennis, Tx. to Willie and Ora Lee (Lowe) Crawford. Mr. Crawford was a World War II US Naval Veteran serving from 1943 to 1948. He had lived in Houston and Orange for a time before moving to Ranger and finally to Eastland. He married Freddie Mae Green on August 27, 1983. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2005. Mr. Crawford worked for the Eastland City Cemetery for several years and was a member of the New Life Tabernacle Church in Cisco.
Survivors include 3 children, Willa Crawford, Hamilton Crawford, and his wife Betty, and Loretta Malone, and her husband Jeffrey, all of Houston; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; a host of extended family by Momma Freddie, including 5 step-sons and 1 step-daughter.

SFC Clifton Andrews
CISCO - Graveside Services for SFC Clifton Virgil Andrews, 85, USA Army Ret., of Abilene and formerly of Cisco, with full Military Honors were held Thursday, July 13, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in the Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Kimbrough Funeral Home.
Mr. Andrews died Tuesday, July 11, 2006, in Abilene.
He was born Tull Cord and Osa (Douthitt) Andrews on February 26, 1921, in Grand Saline. He married La Verne Steffey on Sept. 17, 1914, in Warika, Oklahoma.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, Korea and Vietnam and retired after 26 years of service. He was the receipient of the Purple Heart and was awarded the Bronze Star. He later operated a U.S. Mail Transport Service. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Cisco, Disabled American Veterans and American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ronnie Lee Andrews; a daughter, LaQuita Andrews; a sister, Mildred Andrews and a brother, Cordell Andrews.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, La Verne Andrews of Abilene; two sons, Raymond Lloyd Andrews of Quitman and Dennis Ray Andrews of Cisco; a stepson, David Smith of Cisco; a sister, Inez Lee of Cisco; five grandchildren; three step grandchildren; five great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.

Fred Featherstone
EASTLAND - A memorial service for Fred Featherstone, 76, was at 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 14, 2006, at the Kingdom Hall Of Jehovah's Witnesses in Eastland, located at 209 Pogue Ave.
Mr. Featherstone, a part time employee with the Cisco Independent School District, died Monday morning, July 10, 2006, in a tragic accident.
He was born in Manilla, Phillipines on December 18, 1929. He was married to his wife, Ellen for 55 years. They moved to Eastland approximately seven years ago and were semi-retired. He served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Korean War and later worked as a teamster, retail bread route salesman and maintenance man.
He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on Sept. 9, 1963, and for 43 years zealously shared his active faith with others. He was currently conducting two Bible studies with interested ones in Eastland County, and along with the help of his wife, taught all five of his children how to serve Jehovah God faithfully. He was appointed as a ministerial servant and elder in several different congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses throughout the years and freely gave of his time and energy in order to serve others.
He enjoyed a fine reputation in the community and was well known for his loving kindness. Fred enjoyed cooking and specialized in making a variety of delicious oriental dishes.
Fred loved Jehovah and his family.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen Featherstone of Eastland; five children, Fred Featherstone Jr. of Lake Charles, LA, Lynn Zink of Orangevale, CA, George W. Featherstone of Columbia, SC, Julie Weeber of Lake Charles, LA and Joan Steward, Dominican Republic; six grandchildren, George William Featherstone, Abigail Westby, Anthony Wade Featherstone, Jennifer Zink, Holly Unkel and
Sarah Steward ; one great grandson, Gavin Levi Featherstone; his mother, Norma Garcia of Carlsbad, CA; one sister; and three step brothers.

Robert Davis, Jr.
RANGER- Services for Robert A. Davis Jr., 80, were at 1 p.m. Friday July 14, 2006, in Mesquite & Rusk St. Church of Christ with Ken Evans and Stan Harvey officiating. Burial was in the Merriman Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Mr. Davis died Tuesday July 11, 2006, at a Lewisville Nursing Home.
He was born on March 5, 1926, in Burlington, Vermont to Robert A. Sr. and Ethel (Carl) Davis. He was a graduate of Springfield High School in Springfield Vermont. Mr. Davis attended Vermont Technical School.
Robert married Opal Sparkman on February 27, 1950 in Roswell, New Mexico, and she preceded him in death on October 15, 1996.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge AF & AM #738 in Ranger, a co-member of Masonic Lodge AF & AM # 546 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Order of the Easter Star and Scottish Rite in Oklahoma, as well as A.A.R.P.
He worked as a pressman, printing newspapers for 24 years and also as a truck driver for 12 years. Robert enjoyed his gun collection and reloading guns.
He was a member of the Mesquite & Rusk St. Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and two brothers.
Survivors include his sons; Walter Davis of Newcastle, Oklahoma and Robert E. Davis of Cisco, a daughter Shirley D. Knepp of The Colony; six grandchildren and eight great-grand-children and several nieces and nephews.

Flossie Coan
FORT WORTH - Memorial graveside services for Flossie B. (Walker) Coan, 85, a longtime resident of DeLeon, were at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 15, 2006, at Gardens Of Memory Cemetery in Stephenville, under the direction of Stephenville Funeral Home.
Mrs. Coan died Sunday, July 9, 2006, at her current place of residence in Fort Worth.
She was the daughter of George and Nancy Walker of DeLeon. She married Lloyd in 1938, who preceded her in death in 1994.
She was a businesswoman, owning and operating her own beauty shop in DeLeon for many years. She had a sharp wit and nimble mind, working crossword puzzles, playing bingo and dominoes until recent weeks. She was a joy to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and affectionately known as 'Floppy'.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and four brothers , Elvin, Bill, S.W., and R.D. Walker.

CISCO- Charlotte Rowlene Rusk, known by friends and family as 'Rose', age 44, passed away at her home Sunday, July 16, 2006.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of the Summers-Chambers Funeral Home. Danny Lee officiating.
Rose was born September 24, 1961 in Breckenridge to Rowe Dean Lee and Irene Janette Lee (McAdams). She was raised in Breckenridge and attended Breckenridge schools. On November 29, 1980, she married Billy Rusk in Breckenridge. She was a homemaker by trade and was raised a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her father, Rowe Dean Lee.
She is survived by her husband of over 25 years, Billy Rusk of Cisco; her children, Brandon Rusk and Lacey Rusk, both of Cisco; her mother, Irene Lee of Ivan; brothers, Buster Lee, Bennie Lee, Shorty Lee; sisters, Tooter Keyser, Thomas Lee, Carla Lee, July McGuire; two grandchildren; and many dear friends.

Annie Wetsel
EASTLAND- Annie Myrtle Wetsel, 91, passed away in Abilene on July 11, 2006.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2006 in the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Eastland Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Wright officiating.
Annie was born March 7, 1915 in Stamford, Texas to William Huff and Sally Ann Robbins Huff. She worked for over 20 years in the ASCS Office in Eastland doing clerical work until her retirement. She later married Arlee Wetsel in June of 1975. She was a member of the Daugherty Street Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Johnnie Aaron, and both her sons, Buddy Aaron and Edwin Aaron.
She is survived by her husband of over 31 years, Arlee Wetsel of Abilene; two sisters, Katherine Anderson of Abilene and Opal Anglin of Odessa; four grandchildren, Debbie Aaron Dover of Plano, Edwin L. Aaron, Jr. of San Antonio, Lisa Aaron of San Antonio and Johnny Aaron of Arlington; five great-grandchildren, Shaundra Trout Schlapia of Florida, Shannon Trout of Plano, and Sharla Trout of Austin, and two other great-granddaughters; three great-great-grandchildren, Haleigh, Ethan, and Shane.
The family would like to thank Myrtle's daughter-in-law, Melba Aaron of Eastland, for her support and assistance this past week.

Patricia Cleveland
Patricia 'Pat' Ruth Cleveland, 78, died on Saturday, July 15, 2006 in College Station, Texas.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 19th, 2006 at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church with Rev. Stan Allcorn and Rev. Jack Ridlehoover officiating. Interment will be at Elmwood Memorial Park directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
The daughter of Iola and Alfred Green, she was born on May 4, 1928, in Eastland, Texas and graduated from Eastland High School. She married Martin O. 'Buck' Cleveland of Cisco on May 10, 1947 in Belton, TX, and they lived most of their married lives in Abilene.
She was employed by Halliburtion and was working for I.A. Parmer when she retired in 1990. Pat was an excellent homemaker and enjoyed oil painting, sewing and playing golf.
Pat was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene. A faithful member of her church, she worked part-time in the church office and helped with meal preparation for special occasions.
She was preceded in death by her brother, William Green of Eastland, and her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Martin Cleveland; her daughter, Cathy McWhorter, two grandchildren, Weston and Sara McWhorter and Laura and Mike Greenwald and a great-granddaughter, Riley Greenwald and a host of wonderful family and friends.

Dale McFadin
CISCO - Dale McFadin, age 57, went home to the Lord on Monday, July 24, 2006.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 27, 2006 at 10 a.m. in the Summers-Chambers Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery. Services were officiated by Pastor Ronnie Shackelford.
Dale was born Marlin Dale McFadin on September 3, 1948 in Rotan, Texas to John Marlin McFadin and Burdell McFadin (Vardiman). Though he was born in Rotan he spent much of his youth in Clairemont, Texas. Dale graduated from Moran High School in 1969 and attended college at Cisco Junior College.
Dale moved to Cisco in 1970. He worked for Russell Fink at the Mobile Gas Station while he also worked at the Sears store. On May 15, 1972 he went to work at the Texas Department of Transportation as a Maintenance man, five days later he married Dora Yvonne Lightfoot on May 20, 1972 in Cisco. He worked for TXDOT for 30 years before retiring in April 2002. He also worked for the City of Cisco in 2003 before his retirement.
Dale loved to fish and enjoyed hunting. He loved spending time with his friends and family and especially playing with his grandbabies. Dale was a dependable hardworking man who was there for anyone who needed him. Dale truly loved the Lord. He wrote that his proudest moments were having his children and having them love Jesus. Dale will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Dale was preceded in death by both his parents.
He is survived by his wife of over 34 years, Yvonne McFadin of Cisco; his two children, Brenda McFadin of Abilene and Steven McFadin and his wife Marie of Cisco; three grandchildren, Katherine, Elizabeth, and Stephanie; and two cousins, Phillip Vardiman and Bill Vardiman.

EASTLAND- Phyllis Wright, 82, of Eastland passed away on Saturday July 22, 2006 at her home.
Services were held Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dwaine Clower, Rev. Keith Clower, and Rev. Jody Forbus officiating. Burial was in Simpson Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland, Texas.
Mrs. Wright was born on July 15, 1924 in Ranger, Texas to John C. and Hattie (Gregory) Donaldson. She grew up in Carbon and was a graduate of Carbon High School. Mrs. Wright worked as a seamstress for Hollywood Vassarette and for 30 years at Comanche County Electric as a clerk. She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by three husbands, Dwight Bryant, H. D. Sessum, and Vernon Wright.
Mrs. Wright is survived by a sister Wanda Bryant of Carbon, three brothers; Jake Donaldson of Eastland, Glenn Donaldson of Artesia, New Mexico and Danny Donaldson of Houston; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and great- great nieces and nephews whom she considered her children.

Kenneth Dixon
STRAWN- Kenneth Coleman 'KC' Dixon, 84, of Strawn died Sunday, July 23, 2006 in Stephenville, Texas.
Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2006 in St. John's Catholic Church in Strawn. Rosary was said Monday at 7 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home of Strawn. Burial was in Mount Marion Cemetery.
Mr. Dixon was born November 7, 1921 near Athens, Texas to Biege Livingston and Jimmie (Carter) Dixon. He entered the US Army in 1942 and served in the European Theatre in France and Germany with the 70th Division Trailblazers, 2nd Battalion company F, 275th Regiment. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as Staff Sergeant.
He married LaVada Morris on September 28, 1946 in Strawn and they made their home in Strawn. He retired in 1982 after 37 years with the Texas and Pacific Railroad as a foreman, machine operator and welder. KC was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, St. John's men's club, and the Palo Pinto County Bass Masters fishing club.
He is survived by his wife, Vada Dixon of Strawn; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Philicia Dixon of Strawn and Jimmy and Jane Dixon of Strawn; grandsons, Michael and Ethan Dixon of Strawn; granddaughters, Nadja and Aubrey Dixon of Stephenville and Lindy Dixon of Austin.
KC was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy K. Dixon; parents, Beige and Jimmie Dixon and brothers Luther and Chester Dixon.

Bobby Woods
Bobby L. Woods, 79, of Sugarland, formerly of Ranger, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2006.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at 5 p.m. in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Stephen II officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Woods was born October 30, 1926 to Harvey Orville Woods and Una Davenport. He graduated from Ranger High School. He later married Gladys Nell Bond and they spent many years together until her passing in 1993. He was a proud member of the Methodist Church.
Bob was a scratch avid golfer and sportsman. He was extremely proud of his service in the Marine Corps during World War II. Following the war, Bob loved his days as a cowboy working in Wilds Canyon. After his cowboy days he became a petroleum engineer for 32 years and during that time he created a down whole treatment that received a patent. He enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys, life in general.
Survivors include two daughters, Tamara Fox of Philadelphia and Sarah Ann Austin of Houston; one brother, H.O. Woods of Midland; one granddaughter, Elly Davenport Austin of Houston; one nephew, L.H. Pounds of Rockwell and three nieces, Alyce Gooch of Big Lake, Barbara Hamilton of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Gloria Sadler of Artesia, New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two sisters, Lucille Brown and Daisy Pounds both of Ranger; and and his parents.

EASTLAND- Robert Lynn Winkler, 80, known by friends and family as 'Bob', passed away with his family by his side on Thursday, August 10, 2006 in an Eastland care center.

PFC Clayton Lee Bradshaw, 21, formerly of College Station, TX. graduated Infantry OSUT Ft. Benning, GA on December 12, 2005. He is now stationed at Grafewohr, Germany unit-HHC 3-2 Stryker Cavalry Regiment serving as Radio-Telephone Operator for LTC Rod A. Coffey.
Clayton is the son of Billy and Lisa Bradshaw of College Station, TX. and Kay Williams (Bradshaw) of Bryan, TX.

Judge Charles Robert Dickenson
Judge Charles Robert 'Bob' Dickenson, 73, died Monday, August 14, 2006 at his home.
A memorial service, with Rev. Greg Kennedy and Rev. Bill Libby was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 17, 2006 in St. Paul Methodist Church. Burial was held Friday, August 18, 2006 in the Texas State Cemetery in Austin, Texas under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Bob was born in Coleman County, Texas on April 25, 1933 to Curtis Drew and Mary Jones Dickenson. He graduated from Stamford High School in 1951; graduated with honors from Texas Tech in 1954, and was awarded a full academic scholarship to attend Southern Methodist University School of Law. He became a licensed attorney in 1957 before graduating with a Juris Doctor degree. He practiced law in Dallas for two years and then taught at Baylor University School of Law in Waco for one year. He moved to Abilene in 1960 and practiced here until 1978 when he was elected to serve on the Court of Appeals for a 23 county area which includes Abilene and Eastland. He was unopposed for re-election in 1980, 1986, and 1992. After serving more than 20 years on the Eastland Court of Appeals, he retired and sat by assignment as a Senior Judge until the time of his death.
Bob married Joan Brine in 1972 and the couple made Abilene their home. He was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church of Abilene, the Sons of the American Revolution, The Sons of the Republic of Texas, the Sierra Club, and the State Bar of Texas. He was past Chair of the Judicial Section of the State Bar of Texas and of the Texas Center for the Judiciary. He was also past President of the Abilene Zoological Society.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Nancy Kay Meeks and a brother-in-law, Jack Brine.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Dickenson of Abilene; a son, James Robert Dickenson of San Angelo; brothers-in-law, Larry Meeks and wife Linda of Stephenville, Texas, William Brine and wife Eleanor of Poulsbo, Washington, and Donald Brine of Long Beach, California; several nieces and nephews, including Karen Fox of San Antonio, TX. and Mike Meeks of Lubbock, TX., along with numerous cousins.
Pallbearers were Judge Austin McCloud, Judge Terry McCall, Judge Jim Wright, Judge Rick Strange, Judge Raleigh Brown, Mr. Henry Dochier, Mr. John Bailey, and Mr. Charles E. 'Chuck' Erwin.

EASTLAND- Cathy Lynn Sandlin, 58, passed away with her family by her side, on Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at her home near Carbon.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 18, 2006 at the Carbon Community Baptist Church. Interment followed by Murray Cemetery. Services were officiated by Ray Rodgers and Jody Forbus and held under the direction of the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home in Eastland.
Cathy was born May 26, 1948, in Cisco, to Alden Jasper 'Jack' Lowrance and Doris Lynn (Dye) Lowrance. She married Billy Delton Sandlin on July 5, 1974 in Carbon.
Cathy worked and retired from the records department at the East End Coop in Gorman. She was also a faithful member of the Carbon Community Baptist Church. She was a wonderful wife, a great mom, and a proud grandmother. Cathy was God's child and followed Him diligently. She greatly impacted the lives of many with her gentle caring spirit and uncomplaining nature.
Cathy fought a courageous battle with colon cancer for over 4 years; she will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Preceding her in death was her father, Jack Lowrance.
She is survived by her husband of over 32 years, Bill Sandlin; her mother, Doris Lynn Thompson; her children and their spouses, Heather Lynn McKinney and husband Billy Jack, Clay Delton Sandlin and wife Emerald and Alden Cole Sandlin and wife Ashly; her siblings, Vicki Lowrance, Don Lowrance, Mickey Rodgers, and Jerry Lowrance; and her four grandchildren, Kolby McKinney, Hannah McKinney, Cameron Sandlin, and Kelci Sandlin.

PAMPA - Mary Alice Webb Stroebel, 90, died Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at Bowie, Texas.
Services were held at 10:00 AM Friday, August 18, 2006, at Zion Lutheran Church, with Rev. Michael Erickson, pastor, officiating.
Burial was in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Born June 1, 1916 in Romney, Texas, to Bryce & Willie Chandler Webb. She became a child of God through baptism on August 20, 1930. She was confirmed in the Christian faith on April 4, 1937 at Grace Lutheran Church in Cisco. She married A. M. 'Doc' Stroebel on November 28, 1936 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Cisco. He preceded her in death on September 1, 1987. She had been a resident of Pampa since 1959, moving from Cisco. She worked as a respiratory therapist at Worley Hospital, Highland General Hospital and Coronado Hospital for 14 years, retiring in 1985. She was a faithful member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Pampa.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Kathy Hammer & husband Bill of Pampa, and Nancy Hammer & husband Gerald of Bowie; 2 sisters, Katherine Dean of Lubbock and Betty Adams of Cisco; 2 grandsons: Todd Hammer & wife Debbie of Chico and Hoyt Hammer & wife Laura of Dallas; 2 granddaughters, Malley Underwood & husband Kevin of Sanger, and Amy Hammer of Pampa; 4 great-grandchildren, Thomas Hammer of Chico, Katie Underwood and Bryce Underwood, both of Sanger, and William Alvin Hammer of Dallas. Tiffany was born on March 16, 1984 in Webster, Texas to Larry and Jo Lynn Coupland O'Neil. She grew up in La Porte, Texas and graduated from La Porte High School in May 2002. Following graduation she attended two years cosmetology school in San Jacinto, Texas and she was currently attending Tarrant County College. Tiffany worked for Toni and Guy Salon in Northeast Mall as a hair color specialist for the past four years. She was a member of the La Porte Community Church. Tiffany loved animals.
Tiffany is survived by her parents, Jo Lynn and Larry O'Neil of Lone Camp; a brother, Robert Thomas O'Neil of Lone Camp; maternal grandparents, Allene and Bob Coupland of Lone Camp and paternal grandparents, Eileen Johnson of Galveston and Thomas Wilford O'Neil, Sr. of La Porte, Texas. Gordon Strawn
CISCO - Ira Gordon Strawn, age 87, passed away on August 24, 2006 in a local care facility.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 26, 2006 at the Summers Chambers Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery in Cisco with Larry Stogsdill officiating.
Gordon, first and foremost, was a faithful Christian man. He was a life long member of the Church of Christ.
Gordon was born on September 3, 1918 to Ira Dee Strawn and Meda (Spoon) Strawn in Cisco. He faithfully served his country in the Pacific during World War 11 as a member of the United States Army. He had achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant during his active duty from July of 1937 until September 1945. He also served his country for over a year, stationed at Fort Hood when called up during the Korean War.
After returning to Texas, Gordon married Wanda Coleen Rouse on July 30, 1947 in Sweetwater. The couple was married for over fifty three years until Coleen's passing away in January of 2001.
Gordon was a carpenter by trade. He worked most of his life in the construction field. Later, he had served as a maintenance employee at Dyess Air Force Base.
He was a member of the Ex G.I.'s Association in Cisco, the NRA, the VFW, and he was a founding member of the Cisco Gun Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Coleen, his son, Norman Ray Strawn, and his brothers, William and George Strawn.
He is survived by his daughter, Cecelia Boles, and husband Jerry of Cisco; his grandson, Billy Boles, also of Cisco; his brother, Frank Strawn of Abilene; and his sister, Leona Hutchins of Midland.

Jesus Elizalda
CISCO- Jesus E. Elizalda, age 72, known by friends and family as 'Jesse', passed away on August 23, 2006 in an Abilene care facility.
Funeral services were held at 4 PM, Saturday, August 26, 2006 in the Summers Chambers Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at the Oakwood Cemetery in Cisco under the direction of the Summers Chambers Funeral Home.
Jesse was born on January 22, 1934 to Ramon Elizalda and Eva (Galindo) Elizalda in Spur, Texas. On August 14, 195 1, Jesse married Constancia 'Connie' Porras in Menard, Texas. The couple celebrated over fifty five years of marriage.
He operated Jesse's Gulf Station in Cisco for a number of years until his retirement. He was a member of the Jaycees, and had reached the level of Rooster in the organization. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Cisco. He loved fishing with his sons and attending the Cisco Lobo football games.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Jerry Lee Elizalda, and his brother, Earnest Estrada.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Elizalda of Cisco; his step dad, Felipe Estrada Sr.; his sons, David Elizalda, Roger Elizalda, Martin Elizalda, and Brandon Elizalda; his daughters, Bonnie Lavender, Delma Trice, Ollie Smith, and Susan Loza; his brothers, Pete Estrada, Phillipe Estrada, Jose Estrada, and Joe Estrada; his sisters, Juanita Ortega, Anita Rios, Lupe Aredando, and Amelia Benevidos; 20 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Jesse was very proud of his boys in the military: Brandon Elizalda in the Marines, Anthony Elizalda in the Air Force, and Raymond Smith, who retired from the Air Force.

Gordon Turner
RANGER- Gordon Turner, 89, of Ranger, formerly of Dallas, died Saturday, July 29, 2006 in Eastland.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 31, 2006 in the First Baptist Church in Ranger. Burial was in Bullock Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Ranger.
Mr. Turner was born November 20, 1916 in Ellis County to Lee and Lilley (Hill) Turner. He was raised in Hill and Ellis counties. He married Marie Boone in Dallas on July 11, 1947. He worked as Shop Manager of Cullum & Boren apparel factory for 30 years in Dallas. In 1973 they moved to Ranger and opened the 'Ranger Athletics Manufacturing' which they sold in 1978 and continued to manage for another 10 years. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle and watching TV. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Lilley Turner; two brothers and seven sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Marie of Ranger; brothers-in-law and wives, Troyce and Effie Mae Boone of Ranger, Wilbur 'Pete' and Sarah Boone of Hobbs, New Mexico; several nieces and nephews.

Services for Lorena Williamson Boone, 91, of Lubbock were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 30, 2006 at Forrest Heights United Methodist Church with the Reverend Michael Kirkwood officiating. Burial was at 9:00 a.m. Monday, July 31, 2006 at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Boone died Wednesday July 26, 2006, at MaeAkins Private Care Home. She was born to Luther L. and Bertha Lowe Williamson in Irene, Texas on August 24, 1914. Lorena married Daniel I. Boone, Sr., a native of Eastland, County, on October 11, 1936 in Hillsboro. They lived in Big Spring and Seagraves before moving to Lubbock in January 1949. He died March 2, 1996.
Lorena retired from Affiliated Foods where she worked as a bookkeeper. After retirement, she worked for several years for Sarah Coventry Jewelry. She was a member of Forrest Heights United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Dalvin Boone and wife Jean of Terre Haute, In. and Daniel Boone, Jr. and wife Fran of Lubbock; 6 grandchildren, Michael Boone of Broomfield, Co., Stephen Boone of Indianapolis, In., Catherine Boone of Terre Haute, In., Lorena Boone of Norman, Ok., De'An Tate and husband Rick of Brownfield and Emily Gallagher and husband Matt of Lubbock; great-grandchildren, Nicona Barnes of Lubbock, and Rex Barnes of Brownfield; two brothers, Oscar Lee Williamson of Gainesville, Florida, Homer Dean Williamson of Denver, City, Texas, one sister, Rosa Ward of Mesquite, Texas. Bobby Woods
Bobby Woods, 79, of Sugarland, formerly of Ranger, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2006.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at 5 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Ranger. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Woods was born October 10, 1926 to Harvey Orville Woods and Una Davenport. He graduated from Ranger High School. He later married Gladys Nell Bond and they spent many years together until her passing in 1993. He was a proud member of the Methodist Church. Bob was a scratch avid golfer and sportsman. He was extremely proud of his service in the Marine Corps during World War II. Following the war, Bob loved his days as a cowboy working in Wild Canyon. After his cowboy days he became a petroleum engineer for 32 years and during that time he created a down hole treatment that received a patent. He enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys, life in general.
Survivors include two daughters, Tamara Fox of Philadelphia and Sarah Ann Austin of Houston; one brother, H.O. Woods of Midland; one granddaughter, Elly Davenport Austin of Houston; one nephew, L.H. Pounds of Rockwell and one niece, Alyce Gooch of Big Lake.
He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.

Arvel Lewallen
Funeral services for Arvel Dean Lewallen 72, of Denver City were held on Saturday, July 22, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. in the first Assembly of God Church in Denver City. Rev. Ronnie Lunsford officiated. Interment followed in the Lazbuddie Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. Services were under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City.
Mr. Lewallen passed away Thursday, July 20, 2006 in the VA hospital in Amarillo.
He was born October 10, 1933 in Brady to Jim and Lois Lewallen. He married Etta Janette Dyke on February 18, 1960 in Muleshoe. He served in the U.S. Army from December 1958 to May 1959 receiving an honorable, medical discharge. Before retirement, he worked for Mustang Mobile Homes in Denver City.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Etta, a son, Jimmy Lewallen, his parents, Jim and Lois Lewallen, and three brothers, Wilford (Smokey) Lewallen, Robert (Bobby) Lewallen and James (Jamie) Lewallen.
He is survived by two sons, Richard Dale Lewallen of Amarillo and Dwight Lewallen of Levelland, a daughter, Carol Milam of Lubbock two stepdaughters, Debra and Rhonda; three sisters, Zelda Jordan of Gorman, Laverne Winn of Muleshoe and Barbara Bell and husband D.C. (Bo) of Denver City and a sister-in-law, Wanda Russell of Floydada; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Sarah Edith Becker, 92, of Cisco passed away Friday August 4, 2006 at Eastland Health Care.
She was born in Lyons, Kansas on October 15, 1913. She worked in healthcare as a nurse.
Two husbands, Claude Glasgow and George C. Becker, preceded her in death.
Survivors include, son, Bill Glasgow of Cisco; daughters. Peggy Hubbard of Cisco, Carolyn Parriette of Grapevine and Marolyn Watson of South Pasadena, California; grandchildren, Steve, Ronald, Donald, Elizabeth, Becky, Kevin, Tom, Jason, Kathy, Diane, Sandra, Ricky and Brenda, 10 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Becker was cremated; at this, no services are planned.

O.R. 'Raymon' Carr, 79, died Monday, July 31, 2006.
Graveside services were held Thursday, August 3, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the Hart Cemetery with Rev. Werth Mayes officiating, directed by Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home.
He was born on September 22, 1926 in Cisco, Texas to parents Robert Thurman Carr and Armita Jacobs Carr. He was a retired Mobil Home Serviceman and Truck Driver. He lived many years west of Cisco.
Mr. Carr was a member of the Lakeside Baptist Church, a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was the Post Commander of Bernice Cole American Legion Post #191.
He is survived by one daughter, Deborah Kay Carr of Breckenridge; one son, Ricky Ray Carr and wife Pam of Breckenridge; his beloved companion, Peggy Dillingham of Breckenridge; two sisters, Hazel Foster of Cisco and Rosa Lee Wiloth of Moran; six grandchildren, Tyshawna Harris, Tamera Smith, Brandy Howard, Michelle Whitmire, Tyree Fillingim and Dusin Carr; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Lee Edwin Kinard, 77, of Cisco passed away Friday August 4, 2006 in Abilene Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services were held at 10:00 AM Monday, August 7, 2006 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, officiated by Reverend Doyle Roberts and directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home.
Lee was born in Cisco, Texas on July 9, 1929 to Kelli Lee and Eva Britton (Owing) Kinard. He attended Hardin Simmons University and Baylor University and graduated with a Masters Degree. He taught at Cisco High School for 38 years. He was veteran of the Korean War.
He married Carlita Ann (Rogers) on November 20, 1954, she preceded him in death on January 14, 1985. He married Janice Hughes on August 8, 1997 in Cisco.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Kinard of Cisco; sons, Rodney Kinard and wife Lynn of Duncanville, Randy Kinard and wife Pam of Cisco, and daughter, Karla Kay Kinard of Cisco; sisters: Lois Cofer of Tyler, Norma Kerr of San Antonio and Jo Hollis of Junction; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Chester Alford
EASTLAND- Chester Grady Alford, 86, of Eastland, passed away Friday, August 4, 2006 in a Fredericksburg care facility.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, August 7, 2006, in the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Eastland Cemetery. Pastor Chad Gosnell of the Country Cowboy Church officiated the services.
Chester was born on January 21, 1920 in Ft. Worth to James and Cordelia (Cotton) Alford. He was a United States Army Veteran. He served during WW II in Central Europe under the command of General George S. Patton in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the 741st Tank Battalion.
In December of 1941, he married Vera L. Adams in Eastland. He was well respected in the construction industry in Dallas. He served as Vice President of Martyn Bros., Inc. and worked for Carpenter, Caruth & Hoover. He also was a member of the Local 100 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents; his son, Tim Alford; and his brothers, Howard, Ed, and Tommy Alford.
Chester is survived by his wife of close to 65 years, Vera Alford, of Fredericksburg; his daughter, Tijuana Jackson and husband Marlin of Denver City; his sons, Lynn Alford and wife Sara of New Jersey, Gary Alford and wife Louise of Burnet, and Kenneth Alford and wife Kim of Dallas; and his brother, Robert 'Doc' Alford of Eastland; 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers serving were his grandsons Douglas Alford, Darin Alford, Gary Alford, Jr., and Brentt Jackson.
Chester was a wonderful man. He will truly be missed.

LUBBOCK- Lurlene Roberts, 76, of Lubbock passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2006 at Covenant Hospital surrounded by her family.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 14, 2006 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel of Ranger, Texas. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger, Texas.
She was a long term resident of Ranger, Texas before returning to Lubbock. She was preceded in death by a daughter Leslie; and her mother Alie Wre Benson; three sisters, and two brothers. Lurlene is survived by her husband of 45 years, Bob Roberts; son, Riley Cogdill and wife; and many nieces and nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel of Memories Cemetery in Sweetwater under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Leon was born on July 21, 1927 in Westbrook, Texas. He married Marceline Guelker on May 5, 1951 in Roscoe, Texas. He was a member of the Roby Church of Christ; Past City Commissioner and Past Mayor of Sweetwater and was a representative from Sweetwater to the West Texas Council of Governments. He was the owner and operator of Leon Goswick & Co., Diamond Equipment Co., and Diamond G Ranch, and was involved in ranching and banking in Hudspeth County. He is the past director and chairman of the board of the Texas Bank and Trust in Sweetwater, and was past director and chairman of the board of The Bank of Sierra Blanca. He served in the 11th Airborne Division, 187th Regiment during World War II as a paratrooper for the Army Air Corp. He had lived in Sweetwater since 1957 and in Snyder before.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marceline Goswick of Palava, TX; two daughters, Jennifer Wilkinson and husband Rick of Sweetwater, TX and Laura Orr and husband, Dennis of Sweetwater, TX.; two brothers, J.D. Goswick and wife Barbara of Snyder, TX and Lester Goswick and wife Betty of Ranger; a sister, Margaret Green and husband, Bob of Ranger; five grandchildren, Tara Sager, Kyle Wilkinson, Tish Cantu, Jaci Meador, and Karli Orr; and five great-grandchildren, Lindi, Bonnie, Hartley, Jacob and Jocelyn.

Robert Winkler
EASTLAND- Robert L. Winkler, 80, known by friends and family as 'Bob', passed away with his family by his side on Thursday, August 10, 2006 at Eastland Healthcare Center.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, August 13, 2006, in the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home Chapel in Eastland. Interment followed at Eastland Cemetery. Rev. Mike Madden and Rev. Royce Taylor officiated the services.
Bob was born February 7, 1926, in Dexter, New Mexico to Ed and Frankie (Peter) Winkler. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the 414th Infantry Division. He later married Lillie Brisco on December 17, 1945 in Roswell, New Mexico. They lived most of their lives in the Roswell area until moving to Eastland in 1999.
Bob loved working with livestock and spent his career ranching and performing construction. He was a 'cow-puncher' by trade. He was a loving husband, a great dad, and a wonderful grandfather.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister, Joyce, his brother, Jake, and grandsons, John David and Phillip Daniel Cummings.
He is survived by his wife of over sixty years, Lillie Winkler of Eastland; his five children and their spouses, Jess and Linda Winkler of Roswell, Linda and Clarence Cummings of Eastland, Andy and Becky Winkler of Shawnee, Fred and Janet Winkler of Eastland, and Joe and Becky Winkler of Ft. Worth; his sister, Edna Johnson of California; his brothers and their wives, Ara and Judy Winkler of Dalhart and Ira and Loena Winkler of Roswell. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, and many close relatives and dear friends.

EASTLAND-Bill H. Anderson, age 73, died Saturday, August 12, 2006.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at 10 A.M. at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in the Eastland City Cemetery directed by Edwards Funeral Home of Eastland.
He was born near Goldthwaite, he attended Goldthwaite High School where he excelled playing football and set some rushing records that still stand. He married Anita Carlisle Nov. 17, 1951 in Zephyr, Tx. Bill and Anita moved to Eastland where he worked for R.M. Snead Contractors for 20 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Eastland. He was also an active member of the Maverick Quarterback Club, being one of the longest standing season ticket holders for the Eastland Mavericks. He also served as Assistant Scoutmaster of the Boy Scouts. His hobbies were spending time with his family, gardening and attending wild Mustang horses and chickens.
Survivors include, wife Anita Faye Anderson of Eastland; son and daughter in law, Dicky and Katherine Anderson of Abilene; daughter and son in law Debbie and George Wages of Nacogdoches Texas; a brother Tilmon Kirby of Temple Texas; sister Nan McCartney of May Texas; granddaughter and spouse Jenifer and Brad Chandler of Frisco; grandson and spouse Bryan and Dee Wages of Center Tx; granddaughter and spouse Amanda and Mike Comegys of Kerrville Texas, granddaughter and spouse Amy and Robert Braden of San Angelo, grandson Ramby Anderson of San Angelo; great grandchildren: Matt & Luke Comegys of Kerrville, Wesley Wages of Center and Page Braden of San Angelo.

Wade was born in Brownwood, Texas on October 8, 1939 to Vernon and Wanda (Bradley) Seals. He married Tommie Estes Harris on November 10, 1984 in Cisco. He was a photographer and a member of Everman Bible Baptist Church. He enjoyed doing Music In-Room Therapy and entertaining in nursing homes in the Fort Worth area. He was a member of the Lion's Club in Willis, TX.
Survivors include his wife, Tommie J. Seals of Fort Worth; daughters, Vicki Lorenzen and husband Scott of Ventura, Iowa, Deborah Harris of Cisco; sons, David Seals and wife Delaine of Fort Worth, Kevin Seals of Fort Worth and Robert Harris of Cisco; 13 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren, 3 nieces, Uncle and Aunt Morris Edward and Zina Bradley of Paint Rock, Texas.
His parents, two brothers and one sister preceded Wade in death.

Walter (Bill) Pope
Walter William (Bill) Pope, 90, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2006 at his home in the Atwell community.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 20, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Higginbotham Chapel with sons, Baylis Pope and Walter Pope officiating. Burial followed in the Cross Plains Cemetery.
He was born June 2, 1916 to Andrew Jackson and Ruth Adelia (Taylor) Pope in Abilene, Texas. Bill graduated from Abilene High School in 1934 and from Abilene Christian College in 1938. He married Virginia Baird on June 15, 1940 in Alpine, Texas. He taught school in Scranton, and coached girls and boys basketball. He was also a Scout Master in Scranton and received the Order of Arrow in scouting. He managed Little League Baseball in Cisco and Cross Plains as well as Tee Ball in Cross Plains.
He was a farmer and rancher in Eastland, Callahan, and Brewster Counties. Bill was a member of the American Rambouilet Sheep Breeders Assoc. and served as Director, Vice-President and President. He was a charter member of Cornerstone Church and served as Chairman of the Board, song leader and teacher.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Pope of the home; sons, Walter Pope of Rising Star, Baylis Pope of Atwell, Joe Pope of Stephenville, Dr. Donald Pope of Brownwood, Ronald Pope of San Angelo; brother, Judge Jack Pope of Austin; sister, Betty Horton of Arlington; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Baylis Pope; son, Richard Pope; grandsons, Ronnie Pope, Donnie Joe Pope, and Zachery Pope; as well as a host of friends and he will be missed by all.

Jim was involved in the following organizations: Family of Sports Medicine, Athletic Trainers, Athletics, Rodeo, Justin Sports Medicine Equine Massage, and University of Texas.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, James; and brother, Donnie Pippin.

Clara Hopper
MINERAL WELLS Ð Clara Jane Hopper, 96, of Mineral Wells and formerly of Stephenville, passed away on Saturday August 19, 2006 in a Mineral Wells Hospital. Graveside services will be Monday August 21, 2006 at 10 AM in the New Gordon Cemetery. Burial will follow under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Strawn, Texas.
Mrs. Hopper was born on June 10th, 1910 in Thurber, Texas to Joseph E. and Annie Gibson Booth. She attended school in Thurber and in 1939 married Ernest Hopper; he preceded her in death in February of 1957. She moved to Ranger where she worked as a cook for the Porky Pig, Ranger Hill Restaurant and the Dairy Queen. When she retired she moved to Stephenville and lived there for 20 years, until failing health forced her to move to Mineral Wells. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Gordon for many years until she moved to Stephenville, at which time she became a member of the First Baptist Church there.
Mrs. Hopper is survived by a son Edd Hopper and wife Bea of Gordon, a grandson Randy Hopper of Amarillo, two great-grandchildren Addison and Grayson. Three nieces, one nephew, and several great-nieces and nephews.

EASTLAND- Jimmy Parrish, 58, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2006 in Eastland.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 25, 2006 at Valley View Health Center in Eastland. Services held under the direction of the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home with Tim Dame officiating.
Interment services will be held at a later date at Garland Memorial Cemetery in Garland, Texas where Jimmy will be laid to rest by his mother.
Jimmy was born in Dallas County on September 6, 1947 to Sterling Parrish and Ella Mae (Smallwood) Parrish. After attending schools and living in different parts of Texas, he moved to Eastland to be a resident of the Northview Development Center. He was a Christian.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his step-sister, Carolyn McKenzie of Nebraska City, Nebraska; and his step-brother, Douglas Halford of Schertz, Texas.

Billy Batts
EASTLAND Ð Billy Joe Batts, 81, of Eastland, passed away Friday, August 25, 2006 in an Abilene hospital.
Services were at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 28, 2006 at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Wright officiating, assisted by Dr. Bill Boyd of Ft. Worth. Burial was in the Eastland City Cemetery in the Masonic section.
Bill was born on May 16, 1925 in Itasca, TX to Herman Lester and Bessie Mae (Hale) Batts. After graduation from high school he entered the U.S. Navy Seabees serving in the Pacific Theatre, mostly on Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged on February 20, 1946. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 2012 in Abilene, a 32nd Degree Mason and was a Past Master of the Eastland Masonic Lodge #467. He was in the carpet business in Abilene for many years before moving to Eastland in 1990. He married Mary Jane Rowch on June 15, 1990 in Eastland, where he was a member and Elder of the First Christian Church. He worked for Edwards Funeral Homes in Eastland, Ranger and Strawn for several years. He then went to work for Allegro Mobility, where he worked until his last illness.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Batts of Eastland; a daughter and son-in-law, Traci & Kerry Willis of Georgetown; 4 step-sons, Mike Arther, Brett Arther, and Phillip Arther, all of Eastland, and Thane Arther of Arlington; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; a sister; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Arther of Arlington.

Eli Byars, Jr.
Funeral services for Eli Clinton 'E.C.' Byars, Jr. were held Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at 10 a.m. in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Gary Torian officiating. Interment followed in the Jenkins Springs Cemetery.
Mr. Byars passed away Friday, August 25, 2006 in a local hospital at the age of 84.
He was born January 18, 1922 in Bangs to Eli, Sr. and Wesley Idella Porter Byars. On June 17, 1944, he was married to Ruby Moore in Santa Barbara, Calif. They were married 52 years before her death. He served his country in World War II by joining the Marine Corp. and serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations as a Technical Sergeant. Eli was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Brownwood. He was also a member of the Early Lions Club where he served for 38 years, serving as club president in 1974 and 1975.
Mr. Byars is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Bryan Galloway of Sanger; two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry Ray and Sherry Byars of Zephyr and Jim and Betty Byars of Brownwood; nine grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby; his parents; two sisters and three brothers.

SWEETWATER- Virginia Lee Clements Carter, 79, died August 28, 2006 at her residence in Sweetwater, Texas.
Funeral services were held Thursday, August 31, 2006 at 10 a.m. at McCoy Chapel of Memories in Sweetwater. Burial was in Garden of Memories. Rev. Howell Martin officiating. Graveside rites were performed by Queen Esther #833 Order of Eastern Star of Abilene. Arrangements were made by McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.
Mrs. Carter was born October 28, 1926 in Sagerton, Texas. She married Ellis M. Carter, Jr. on June 25, 1948 in Snyder, Texas. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a graduate of Rule High School in 1943. She attended DraughnÕs Business College. She worked for the Telephone Company in both Sweetwater and Snyder. She was the Credit Manager for Sears for 8 years. She was Secretary for Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce for two years. She was Office Manager for Dr. Jerry Smola when he opened his office July 20, 1976 for 15 years and retired January 1991. She was a member of The Order of Eastern Star-Mammie D. Crane Chapter 1018 and served as Worthy Matron twice and held various Grand Appointments of this Christian and Charitable Organization; and organized several Brownie and Girl Scout Troops.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis M. Carter, Jr. on February 2, 1993; twin daughters, Judy and Julia Carter; and her parents, Walter, Sr. and Minnie Clements.
Survivors are two daughters, Cynthia Wiley and husband Nate of San Angelo, TX. and Carolyn Moschetto and husband Jim of Tulsa, OK.; four grandchildren, Shawn Wiley, Melissa Barton, Mike Moschetto and Jennifer Johnson; 8 great-grandchildren, Megan Farris, Justin Barton, Breanna Wiley, Treva Cummins, Luke Moschetto, Marissa Moschetto, Grace Johnson and Logan Johnson; brother, Walter Clements, Jr. of Roscoe; three sisters, Helen Kinerd of Abilene, Ruby Dressler of Iowa Park, Joann Priest of Eastland; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Margaret and Amy Vega, Mary, Weldon, and Lisa Kirk, and Dorothy Stroman.
Pallbearers were Shawn Wiley, Dusty Barton, Mike Moschetto, Richard Smola, Dr. Mike Wedin, John Young. Honorary pallbearers were Jack Aycock, Weldon Kirk, Dr. Fred Kassis, Dr. Lufkin Moses, Dr. Luther Martin, Dr. Larry McEachern, Larry Newton, and Michael Newton.

Reda Harris
FORT WORTH - Reda Irene Harris, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 28, 2006, at the age of 59 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel, 5725 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville. Burial: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park.
Pallbearers: Randy Blalock, Craig Calcaterra, Gary and Randal Parsley, Brett Pierce and Robert Venable.
Reda met the love of her life, Harvey Lee Harris, on Nov. 25, 1962, and they were married June 29, 1963, when she was 16. They had three children, and she was a stay-at-home mom until they were all school-age, when she began her career in the banking industry. One of Reda's proudest achievements was when she worked her way up to become an assistant vice president, without a college degree.
Throughout her life, Reda's favorite hobbies included bowling, floral arranging, crafts, sewing and garage sales. Her greatest joy was in the legacy she leaves behind Ñ her loving family.
Reda was preceded in death by her father, Robert Albert Wagner; her mother, Reba Irene Gardner; her brother, Robert 'Bobby' Wagner; and her son-in-law, Todd Phelps.
Survivors: Her loving husband and best friend of 43 years, Harvey; her first born, Deb Phelps and her daughter, Megan; her baby boy, Rodney Harris, his wife, Kelly, and their daughters, Samantha and Sydney; her youngest daughter, Dana Venable, her husband, Richard, and their children, Amanda and Ryan; her dearest friends, Ruthie Woolsey and Trudy Calcaterra; and many other family members and friends.

Elizabeth Sandlin
EASTLAND- Elizabeth O'Neil Sandlin, 89, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2006 at Brownwood Regional Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, September 2, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Carbon. Interment followed at Murray Cemetery. James Holt and Jack Clack officiated the services held under the direction of the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home in Eastland.
Elizabeth was born July 8, 1917, in Hereford, Texas to Elijah Dunn and Weltha M. Moore. She married Dulon Delton 'D.D.' Sandlin on October 19, 1935 in Springtown, Texas.
The Sandlin's moved to Carbon in 1938 to work a family farm. Elizabeth was a homemaker. She was also a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Carbon for over 65 years. She had been a member of the Pleasant Hill Home Demonstration Club.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband of over 45 years, D.D. Sandlin in May of 1981, a young child, Jimmy Allen Sandlin, and her sister, Ruth Chilis.
She is survived by her sons, Carol Sandlin, Jim Sandlin, and Bill Sandlin, all of Carbon; her daughter, Kathrin Coburn of San Angelo; 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Frances Elizabeth (Beth) Coats, 87 of Cisco passed away Friday September 1, 2006 in Eastland Memorial Hospital. Graveside services in Dennis Cemetery were held at 4:00 PM Monday, September 4, 2006, officiated by Larry Fitzgerald, under the direction of Kimbrough Funeral Home.
Mrs. Coats was born February 21, 1919 in Cisco to Charles C. and Annie E. (Yeager) McFadden. She married Jesse Clyde Coats on October 28, 1940 he preceded her in death on December 16, 1996. Through the years she was employed at Heidenheimers, Altman's and JC Penney's in Cisco.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Margarute McIntire and Nell Dean McClelland and a great grandson, John Walter Salvato.
She is survived by her daughter, Paula and husband John Hutt of Cisco; brothers, Billy Joe McFadden and wife Ruth of Cisco, Robert (Bob) McFadden and wife Dell of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Julie Salvato and husband Steven of Kempner and Jason Hutt and wife Lea of Abilene; and great grandson Luke Salvato of Kempner.

RANGER- Ray Parsons, 82, of Ranger died September 1, 2006 in Fort Worth.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at 10 a.m. in the Mingus Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Speer and Rev. Bill Dawson officiating. Burial with Military Honors in the New Gordon Cemetery.
Ray was born to William Dowd Parsons and Adeline (Keener) Parsons on July 2, 1924 in Strawn, Texas. He married Margie Lorene Conner on January 19, 1943 at the home of Reverend and Mrs. Lee Jordan in Fort Worth. He was a member of Mingus Baptist Church and a graduate of Lone Camp High School class of 1942.
Ray was drafted into the Army in May of 1943 where he served with a medical cleaning company in the Pacific Theatre until his honorable discharge in December 1945. In 1946 Ray went to work for the Featherlite Corp. He remained in their employment until 1989 when he retired. Ray was a member of VFW Post 4136 in Eastland. He enjoyed his hobby as a woodcraftsman and contributed many of his wood works to West Texas Rehabilitation Center. Meeting with the Boom Town Coffee Club at the local Dairy Queen was one of Ray's favorite pastimes.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Margie Parsons of Ranger; one sister, Alma Ruth and husband, Stephen Holub of Gordon, TX; one son, Ernest Parsons and wife, Lorraine of Mineral Wells; daughters, Linda and husband, Wayne Croft of Early, TX, and Denise and husband, Rickey Martinez of Springtown, TX.; 8 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 4 step-great-grandchildren.

Mary Pruitt
Mary Carolyn Blain Pruitt, 69, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2006 at Hendrick Hospice Care in Abilene, Texas.
A memorial service was held at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel in Abilene at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2006. Rev. V.R. Whittington officiated.
Carolyn was born in Abilene, Texas on November 19, 1936 to Thomas Berney and Camilla Marrs Blain. She attended Abilene public schools, graduating from Abilene High School in 1954. Carolyn received her B.S. in Elementary Education from McMurry College in 1958 and her Master of Education in Reading from Hardin-Simmons University in 1981.
Carolyn was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught in the Abilene, Cisco and Hamlin public schools. After retirement, she volunteered as a docent at the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature. She served on the NCCIL Exhibition and Programming Committee. Carolyn was honored as the 2004 NCCIL volunteer of the year and recognized at the Abilene Cultural Affairs Council Art Awards Program.
Carolyn had been active in the United Methodist Church, serving on various boards and committees and teaching Bible School. She also served as a Girl Scout leader for several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Thomas Marrs Blain.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Jerry Murl Pruitt of Abilene; three daughters, Pamela Diane Pruitt Whittington and husband Vernon R. of Austin, Mary Patricia Pruitt Adams and husband John of Valley Glen, California, Paula Jeanne Pruitt of Austin; grandson, Blandonn Wade Smith and friend Lisa Maksymowicz of Austin; and her sister, Bernerll Blain Blaine of Anchorage, Alaska.
The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to Dr. Carl Trusler, Dr. Anton Melnyk and the Texas Cancer Center staff, the oncology staff at Hendrick Medical Center, and Hendrick Hospice Care.

EASTLAND - Deloris Jean Carter, 73, of Eastland, passed away Tuesday, September 05, 2006 in Eastland. Graveside services will be at 2:30 PM Friday, September 8th in Southland Memorial Park in Grand Prairie, Texas, under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Mrs. Carter was born on August 8, 1933 in Wilson, Oklahoma to Clarence and Rosie Bates. She attended school there and later moved to Lubbock. She married James Carter on November 25, 1955 in Roscoe, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1995. She was a housewife and a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Lubbock.
Mrs. Carter is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra Jean Trantham and Douglas of Waco, and Gail Denise Thompson and David of Eastland; a son and daughter-in-law, James Ervin Carter and Gloria of Eastland; a sister, Betty Lou Turner of Lubbock; eight grandchildren, Shalaina Pate, Jeremie and Terry Trantham, Amber, Christopher, and Stacey Thompson, Jimmy Arnett and Shenee Carter; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Karla Kinard
Karla Kay Kinard, 44, of Cisco passed away Thursday, September 7, 2006 in Abilene.
Graveside services, officiated by Sister Thelma Hostetter and directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home, were held in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Friday, Sept. 8, 2006 at 4:00 pm.
Karla was born to Lee Edwin and Carlita Ann (Rogers) Kinard on December 29, 1961 in Lubbock, Texas. Her family moved to Cisco where she graduated from Cisco High School and attended Cisco Junior College. Karla loved music and played in the high school band until her graduation. She never missed a practice.
Karla was a member of First Baptist Church and was attending Victory Assembly at the time of her death. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her brothers, Randy and wife, Pam, of Cisco, Rod and wife, Lynn, of Duncanville; finance, Sherman Tibbles of Cisco; step-mother, Janice Kinard of Cisco; and several cousins and many friends.
Karla was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Carlita Kinard.

Wylie Parsons
RANGER- Wylie D. Parsons, 69, of Ranger died Wednesday morning, September 6, 2006 in Ranger.
Funeral services were held Friday, September 8, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chad Gosnell officiating. Burial was in the Exray Cemetery near Hannibal.
He was born March 26, 1937 to Henry Orville Parsons and Ruby Hazel (Wylie) Parsons in Eliasville, Texas. His parents followed the oilfield work throughout west Texas. He married the mother of his six children, Margie Wright in 1955 in Snyder. They continued to follow the oilfield and work on ranches in the Breckenridge and Strawn area the longest time spent on the Truman Robinson Ranch north of Strawn. He served as Deputy Sheriff in Shackelford County for a while and enjoyed roping and participating in rodeos. He had a unique horsemanship talent. He married Brenda Johnson on November 4, 1979 in Weatherford. They lived in Cisco, Eastland, Morton Valley and the last six years in Ranger. He retired from Truck Driving hauling gas. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Strawn and enjoyed raising livestock, reading and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Parsons of Ranger; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy Crocker and Jimmy of Moran, Debbie Mueller and Bob of Eastland, Kathy Gailey and Bobby of Eastland, Sheila Hitt and Frankie of Weatherford; sons and daughters-in-law, Randy Parsons and Dana of Breckenridge, Andy Parsons and Theresa of Eastland; sisters, Peggy Watson of Lindsey, Oklahoma, Hazel Frankland and Bob of Breckenridge; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 8 nieces and nephews.

Lillie Bowden
Lillie Joyce (Rose) Bowden, 77, of Clyde, Texas, born September 22, 1928 near Lawn, went to be with the Lord on September 10, 2006.
She grew up near Content with her parents, Lillie (Aldridge) and Franklin Rose, and her sister, Doris Copeland Harrell. She graduated from Lawn High School in 1945. On September 3, 1949, she married E. H. 'Sandy' Bowden, whom she met while working in Abilene for Southwestern Bell. She started her family and happy memories in Abilene prior to living in Wichita Falls and Odessa, Texas. She and Sandy retired to Clyde in 1987. She was a member of Abilene Primitive Baptist Church.
Joyce was a playful and caring Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother who loved her family and became known as Nana. She was a precious wife that enjoyed life and will always hold a special place with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister.
Joyce is survived by her husband, E.H. 'Sandy' Bowden of Clyde; son, Terry Bowden and wife, Gloria, of Ranger; and daughter, Kim Justis and husband, Tim of Stephenville; two granddaughters, Jessica and husband, Cole Callaway, of Orlando, Florida and Ashley Justis of Stephenville; two great-grandchildren, Austin Hunter and Mackenzie Rose Callaway; and nephews, Mike Copeland and wife, Becky, of Stephenville and Tim Copeland and wife, Erica, of Abilene.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Memories conducted by Elder Travis Brown, with her resting at Dewey Cemetery in Lawn.
Pallbearers were Matt Copeland, Mitch Copeland, Scott Copeland, Rick Copeland, Michael Copeland and Doug Aldridge.

Jerry Wayne Krause, 62, of Carbon, passed away Thursday, September 7, 2006 at an Abilene hospital.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 10, 2006 at the Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Eddie McHugh officiating. Burial was at the Murray Cemetery.
Wayne was born August 21, 1944 in Brady to Reinhart and Margie Foster Krause. He married Sam (Helen) Davis on July 2, 1970 in Lovington, NM. He was a retired maintenance supervisor for Birdsong Peanuts having worked there for 13 years.
Survivors include his wife, Sam (Helen) Krause of Carbon; four sons, Rodney Krause of Bettendorf, Iowa, Gregg Krause of Lubbock, Jerry Krause of Comanche and Chuckie Martin of Midland; three step-daughters, Belinda Bingham of Seguin, Melody Brown of Kenedy and B.C. Henkes of Cuero; one step-son, Buster Schmidt of Alabama; two brothers, Dennis Krause of Marble Falls and R.J. Krause of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Cleo Newsom of Marble Falls and Mary Jo McFadden of Kingsland; 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.

FORT WORTH- John Edward Turner, 76, a retired commercial artist, passed away Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006.
Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006 in Eastland City Cemetery, Eastland. Winscott Road Funeral Home of Benbrook was in charge of the arrangements.
John Turner was born July 5, 1930, in Eastland to John William and Margaret Ragland Turner.
Survivors are a sister, Jeane T. Terry of Dallas; brother, Dick Ragland Turner of Goldthwaite; nephews, Bruce Terry and wife, Laura of Fort Worth and Mark Terry of Dallas; and other loving relatives and friends.

Lee Roy Jay
Lee Roy Jay of Gridley, California died at the age of 84 on September 9, 2006 in the Fremont Hospital, Yuba City, California.
He was born in Ranger, TX on September 8, 1922.
Lee Roy Jay worked as a salesman for Imperial Hardware Co in Indio, CA, and then as furniture manager for Imperial Furniture from 1960-1971 in Riverside, California. He was store manager for Imperial Furniture from 1971-86 in Indio, California.
He was a Veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving from 1941-1946 as Pharmacists Mate 2nd Class. He was also at the U. S. Naval Hospital in Corona, CA during the Korean War from March 1951 - Feb. 1952.
He relocated to Indio in 1947.
Lee Roy Jay married Joyce Eugenia Michaelsen on October 23, 1949.
He moved to Riverside in 1960; returned to Indio in 1971; moved to San Diego in 1986; and then moved to Gridley, CA in 1995, where he resided in the area for 10 years.
He is survived by daughters Charlotte Lockhart of Biggs, CA, and Carolynn Plummer of Santee, CA; sons Larry Jay of Yucca Valley, CA, and Randy Jay of LaQuinta, CA; 7 grandchildren; sisters Elizabeth Waynick of Benbrook, TX, and JoAnne Henderson of San Antonio, TX; brothers Deluia Blair of Riverside, CA, Carlon Jay of Wichita Falls, TX, and James Wesley Jay of Keller, TX.
The funeral was held on Saturday, September 16, 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Gridley with Pastor Nick Sorani officiating. A private burial was held at Riverside National Cemetery with Holycross Memorial Services of Yuba City handling the arrangements.

Morrell Ray
Morrell Herman Ray, 75, of Cisco passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2006 in the Eastland Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, September 15, 2006 at Calvary Baptist Church in Cisco, officiated by Rev. Phillip Thomas and Rev. Bill Armstrong. Burial, with full military honors, followed in the Scranton Cemetery under the direction of Kimbrough Funeral Home.
On December 4, 1930, Morrell was born to Ples Morrell and Aline Ettna (Leveridge) Ray in Scranton, Texas. He attended Scranton High School, Cisco Junior College and received his Bachelor's degree from Hardin Simmons University. He married Haruko Nakatani at the US Embassy in Fujoka, Japan on September 8, 1953; she preceded Morrell in death on February 28, 1996. He married Ima Ruth (Page) Wiley on November 1, 1997 in Cisco.
After serving 32 years in the US Air Force, he retired in 1980 with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He served as Senior Airman Advisor for 15 years and Administration Technician for 15 years. He was recipient of the Bronze Star, AF Commendation Medal, AF Good Conduct Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Cluster, Small Army Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, NCO Academy Graduate Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal Army with 2 Clasps, Korea Service Medal, AF Longevity Service Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Republic Vietnam Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and AF Outstanding Unit Award with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters. He was also a member of the Cisco Ex GI Association, a Red Cross Volunteer, a member of the Kiwanis Club, worked with Little League and was a Cub Scout Leader.
He is survived by his wife, Ima Ruth Ray of Cisco; sons, Bob Ray and wife Helen of Billings, Montana, Billy Wiley and wife Gail of Midland, Don Wiley of Cisco; daughters, JoAnn Bullock and husband Kirt of Blackfoot, Idaho, Mary Ann Ray of Lakeland, Florida; brother, Mark Ray and wife Bobbie of Abilene; sister Dortha Ben Taylor of Gig Harbor, Washington; 15 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren.
His parents; a son Ples Ray; a brother, David Ray and a sister, Lena Helen Brashear preceded him in death.

Jerry Wylie
On September 12, 2006 our beloved husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, and friend, Jerry Dan Wylie ran through the gates of heaven breathing perfectly and laughing with joy. His earthly father Bill Wylie and Jesus were there to greet him with open arms. Our loss was heaven's great gain. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Judy of Eastland; his children, Tyshawna Harris, Brandy Howard, Tyree Fillingim, Billy Jack Hallmark, James Dale Hallmark, Nicole Sparkman, and Joseph Paul Hallmark. They are joined in their sorrow by his mother, Doris Wylie Threet of Breckenridge and his siblings, Wayne and Steve Wylie, Paula Anderson, Susie Thiebaud, and Deanna Palmer. Jerry was a proud grandfather to Kellum, Canaan, Kaylar, Connor, Cidnee, Talmadge, Elizabeth, Joshua, Jayton, Jesse, Ryleigh, Grayson, and Braydon.
On February 26, 1951, while Bill and Doris were visiting relatives in Cleburne, Jerry Dan made his unexpected appearance. 'Blondie', as his dad called him, grew up in Breckenridge, Texas. He attended Breckenridge High School and Cisco Junior College. Jerry spent his early years working in the oil fields and later worked in construction.
He was a Master Mason in Good Standing of Breckenridge Lodge #492 and an active member of Gunsight Baptist Church. Jerry loved children of all ages and was a member of USGA Girls Softball where he coached for 15 years, volunteered to maintain equipment and facilities, and helped improve the character of countless children.
His service, officiated by Rex Boggs, was held on Friday, September 15, 2006, 2:00 p.m. at Gunsight Baptist Church. He was carried to his final resting place, Hart Cemetery, by the following pallbearers: Chris Pittman, Clint Jones, Chad Kanady, Rodney Anderson, Steve Leonard, and Vic Riley. Those serving as honorary pallbearers were: Matt Wylie, Mark Wylie, Parker Wylie, Chase Harris, Dusty Anderson, Cody Thiebaud, Derrick Anderson, Chuck Howard, Tal Fillingim, Billy Jack Hallmark, James Hallmark, Joseph Hallmark, Toby Sparkman, Rodney Russell, Dusty Carr, Steven Whitmire, Richard Murray, Gene Gartman, Noah Gray, Jimmy Don Wilson, John T. Harris, Jr., and Michael Vandergriff.
Jerry fought the good fight and has now won his final race.

Delbert Livingston
DELEON- Delbert Vernon 'Bill' Livingston, 85, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2006 at the Comanche County Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, September 18, 2006 at the DeLeon First United Methodist Church with Pastor Lisa Neslony officiating and Burial followed in the DeLeon Cemetery under the direction of the Nowlin Funeral Home of DeLeon.
He was born on January 29, 1921 in DeLeon, Texas to the late John Marvin and Lillie Violet Aldredge Livingston. He married Clara Mae Mathis on January 21, 1940 in Cisco, Texas. He was an Electrical Tech for Exxon for 33 years. He lived in DeLeon several years and returned back to DeLeon to make his home in 1982. He was a 32nd degree Mason, Shriner and a member of the DeLeon First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Mae Livingston of DeLeon; three daughters, Priscilla Ann Smith and husband Ronald of College Station, Linda Lee Kelly and husband Patrick of Denver, Colorado, and Susan Kay McKeever and husband Russell of Abilene; a brother, Pat Livingston and wife Beverly of DeLeon; a sister, Barbara Watkins of Fort Worth; 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Evelyn Cherry.
Memorials may be made to the DeLeon First United Methodist Church.

Albert Skinner
Graveside services for Albert Henry Skinner, Jr. of Sundown, Texas were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 17, 2006 at the Sundown Cemetery with Pastor Thomas Singo of Clarington, Ohio officiating.
Mr. Skinner died Thursday, September 14, 2006 at the Covenant Hospital in Levelland.
He was born on August 8, 1922 in Carbon, Texas. He married Anna Mae Lee on December 16, 1945 in Brownfield, Texas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WW II. He then worked for Flint Engineering and Construction as a roustabout foreman until his retirement in 1985. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, an three sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Mae of Sundown; two daughters, Etta Ann Granville of Sundown and Janet Kay Singo of Clarington, Ohio; three sons, Donald Gene Skinner of China Spring, Kenneth Wayne Skinner of Dickinson, North Dakota and David Kelly Skinner of Amarillo; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Gladys Juanita Carlile, 86 of Cisco passed away Saturday September 16, 2006 in a Bedford, Texas hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday September 19, 2006 in Kimbrough Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by David Danielson, burial will follow Oakwood Cemetery.
Gladys was born on February 15, 1920 in Cisco to Omer and Alma (Taylor) Fenley. She married John Howard Carlile on January 30, 1937 in Cisco; he preceded her in death on February 8, 2003. She was a homemaker and a member of East Cisco Baptist Church.
She is survived by sons, John Carlile and wife Jan of Abilene, Omar Carlile and wife Pat of Bedford; sisters, Omalee Holdridge of Cisco and Opal Spoon of Arlington; granddaughters, Carrie Smith, JDana Lindley, Cathi Lang, Cindy Danielson, Jena Moore and grandson, Craig Carlile, 22 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, many nieces and nephews.

James 'Paul' Beasley, 39, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, September 15, 2006 at 1:10 P.M. and he is in the arms of Jesus.

EASTLAND-Fred Fox, 68, of Olden, died Sunday, September 17, 2006 in Abilene Texas.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday. September 20, 2006 in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Eastland. Burial will be in the Merriman Cemetery.
Mr. Fox was born September 23, 1937 in Olden to Jesse Alfred Fox and Deola Letha [Perrin] Fox. He was a 1955 graduate of Olden High School. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1955 and served in Korea before being honorably discharged. He began working for many companies as an Instrument Supervisor in chemical and petroleum plants that took him world wide. After his retirement, he returned to Olden, Texas where he enjoyed repairing lawnmowers, houses, electrical wiring and tinkering on other stuff.
He is survived by: Mother - Deola Fox of Hurst; sons - Roger Wayne Fox of Houston and Randy Joe Fox of Baird; daughters - Vanessa Copeland of Clyde, Cheri Kay Payne of Fort Worth, Carla Wynn Fox of Olden; brothers - Virgil Fox of Houston, Glenn Fox of Little River, Gary Fox of Bowie; sisters - Ruby Nell Bryant of Abilene, Ilene Beggs of Red Oak, Diane Gibson Fox of Hurst, Rose Arrington of Little Elm, Margaret Cannon of Snyder; many grandchildren and great grandchildren

STRAWN - Cecil B. Wyatt 85, of Strawn passed away on Tuesday September 19, 2006.
Masonic graveside services were held at 11 AM Thursday, September 21, 2006 in the Mt. Marion Cemetery with Rev. Michael Orsini officiating. Burial followed under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Strawn, Texas.
The family received friends at the funeral home on Wednesday September 20, 2006 from 6 to 8 PM.
Cecil was born on January 21, 1921 in Unity Community in Erath County, Texas, to Charlie M. and Bessie (Cox) Wyatt. He was a graduate of Unity Community School and later married Vera Meredith on August 31, 1940 in Strawn, Texas. Cecil was a World War II Navy Veteran. He worked as a mechanic for Stagg Dodge Plymouth dealership in Strawn from 1947 to 1957, after leaving there he worked several different location including Brownwood, Bridgeport and the back to Strawn where he worked for the City of Strawn in the water department. Cecil was an over 50 year member of the Strawn Masonic Lodge AF & AM. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, two sons; Gary Wyatt in 1988 and Terry Wyatt in 2004 and a brother Estell Wyatt in 1979.
Cecil is survived by his wife of 66 years Vera Wyatt of Strawn, a son Meredith Wyatt of Arlington, Cecila Scott of Mingus, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and a nephew Mike Wyatt of Louisiana.

Lenoir Leveridge
Lenoir Beth Leveridge, 80, of Breckenridge passed away Monday, September 18, 2006, in an Abilene hospital.
The family received friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Kimbrough Funeral Home Chapel in Cisco.
Graveside services, officiated by Reverend Steve Nance, followed immediately in the Scranton Cemetery under the direction of Kimbrough Funeral Home.
Beth was born in Nevada, Texas on January 20, 1926 to Ervin Eldred and Emma Francis (Johnson) Addy, Sr. She graduated from St. Paul School of Nursing in 1946 and moved to Cisco, Texas to work for her brother, Dr. E.E. Addy, Jr. She also worked for Graham Hospital in Cisco and retired from the Stephens County Memorial Hospital in Breckenridge. She was married to M.R. (Jack) Leveridge on June 7, 1947, in Cisco, Texas. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Breckenridge and several professional organizations.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 59 years, Jack, of Breckenridge; daughter, Katheryn L. Hoffman and husband, Fred, of Arlington; two sons, Michael Ray Leveridge and wife, Rosa, of Breckenridge and Robert Steve Leveridge and wife, Linda, of Hurst; sister, Jeraldine Lucas of Irving; grandchildren, Kay Waldrep, Colby Rogers, Sara Browning, Michael Leveridge and Brad Leveridge; nine great-grandchildren; two nieces, Carol Lucas and Susan Addy; and one nephew, Andy Lucas.

Crystal Hobson
Crystal Hobson died peacefully at home on Sept. 20, 2006, after a long illness.
Crystal was born Oct. 11, 1917, in Floydada, TX, to Myrtle and Walter L. Jackson. After graduating with honors from Burkett High, Burkett, Texas, Crystal worked her way through Cisco Junior College, Cisco, Texas, and later attended OU. Before coming to Midwest City in 1946 she worked as a headline writer for the All Church Press in Fort Worth, Texas, Continuity Director for the Grand Ole Oprey in Nashville, and Fort Worth Air Traffic Control.
Crystal began her Oklahoma real estate career at the invitation of WP Bill Atkinson, developer of Midwest City. She sold many of the first houses built in Midwest City. In 1947, she married Warren Hobson of Oklahoma City. In 1947, she married Warren Hobson of Oklahoma City. Crystal ultimately became the first woman nationwide to earn the CCIM designation, Certified Commercial Investor Member of National Association of Realtors. Crystal was named Mrs. Midwest City, 1958, MWC Woman of the Year, 1967, Oklahoma Journal Gallery of Fame, 1967, Mid Del Realtor of the Decade, 1987, Outstanding Realtor Active in Politics, 1989, Mid Del Realtor of the Year, 1994, and she was awarded the Mid Del Lifetime Service Award, 1999. Crystal also served her community and her country as a Pilot Club charter member, 1957-1969, and she served her profession as President, State CCIM Chapter, 1980. She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Midwest City, where she taught Sunday School and served as First Reader.
Predeceasing Crystal are her parents, Walter and Myrtle Jackson; brothers, Terrell, Jesse Council, Howard, and Newman Jackson, husband, Warren Hobson, and niece Carla Dickson.
She is survived by daughter April Jackson, MWC; cousin, Joan Squires, MWC; sister-in-law, Mildred Jackson, Bastrop, TX; nieces Jan Kateri, Muskogee, OK, JoAnn Allen, Baird, TX; nephews Kay Jackson, Cisco, TX, Tug Jackson, Corpus Christi, TX, Galen Jackson, San Antonio, TX, plus additional relatives too numerous to list.
Crystal's longtime expressed wish was that a simple graveside service be arranged for her. Services will be held at the family plot in Oakwood Cemetery, Cisco, Sunday, September 24, under the direction of Kimbrough Funeral Home, Cisco, with Pastor Terrell Jackson, Crystal's grandnephew, presiding.

George Beighley
RANGER- George Allen Beighley, 54, of Ranger died Saturday, September 9, 2006 in Eastland.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 11, 2006 at 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Ranger. Rev. Richard Waters and Rev. Ronnie Guess officiated. Burial was in Merriman Cemetery.
George was born October 4, 1951 in Fort Worth to George E. Beighley and Hazel (Faircloth) Beighley. He was a Class of 1970 Ranger High School graduate, and earned an Associate of Applied Science degree from Ranger College. He married Brenda Gasch on July 5, 1974 in Poteet, Texas. He and his father operated Beighley Gulf Service Station from 1965 until 1988 in Ranger. He had been employed by Ranger College as Director of Maintenance for 22 years. He was involved in sports, coaching Little League, Pony League then cooking hamburgers for the Booster club. He was a 17 year member of the Ranger Volunteer Fire Department and was instrumental in building the current fire station. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Ranger and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, wood carving and keeping up with all sports.
He is survived by his wife Brenda of Ranger; son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Amanda Beighley of Cleveland, Tx.; daughter, Carol Ann Beighley of Ranger; his mother, Hazel Beighley of Ranger; granddaughter, Kylie Beighley of Ranger.
He was preceded in death by his father, George E. Beighley in 1983.
Memorials may be made to the Ranger College Scholarship Fund.
