Marvin Dean Landers
  Marvin Dean Landers, 56, of Cat Spring, Texas, passed away suddenly December 24, 2007. 
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Ronda Sens Landers; daughters, Leslie and Allison Landers; and father, Bradford Landers of Cisco, Texas. 
Marvin was preceded in death by his ever-devoted mother, Hazel Landers.
      Marvin was born in Ranger, Texas on October 5, 1951 and raised in McCamey, Texas, where he graduated from high school in 1970. He played football for The University of Texas at El Paso and received a degree in pharmacy from The University of Texas at Austin in 1976. Marvin was pharmacy manager at the Wal-Mart in Sealy at the time of his passing.
      The family received friends on December 27th from 5-7 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sealy, Texas.  The funeral service was conducted at 3 pm on Friday, December 28, 2007 at Trinity Lutheran.

William F. ‘Bill’ Simpson, Sr.
William F. Simpson, Sr. known affectionately as Bill, passed from this life peacefully with his daughter by his side on Monday, December 24, 2007 in Lakeland, Florida at the age of 69 years old, after a short illness.
He was born on November 24, 1938 in Paragould, Arkansas to Bessie and Carl Simpson. For many years he owned and operated several successful salvage, equipment and trucking businesses in the Florida area. He was a very colorful and interesting man and loved to talk and will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bessie and Carl Simpson.
He is survived by his son, Dr. William F. Simpson, Jr. and his wife, Michelle of Eastland; his daughter, Lisa Baxley and husband, Danny of Lakeland, Florida; son, Tommy Simpson and wife, Christy of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; and son, Joseph Simpson of Rhode Island. He had 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Services will be held at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould, Arkansas Sunday, December 30, 2007 at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Linwood Cemetery in Paragould.
The family will be at the funeral home at 10 a.m. until noon for visitation with family and friends.

Freddie Joe Burns
Freddie Joe Burns, 65, passed away Monday, December 24, 2007 in the Comanche Co. Medical Center.
Born March 5, 1942 in Gorman, Texas he married Ruby Jean Hankins in 1965 in Houston, Texas. She died in 2004. Mr. Burns was a carpenter and a Baptist.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at the graveside in Burns Cemetery. Richard Watson officiated. Higginbotham Funeral Home of Gorman was in charge of services.
Survivors are his daughter, Freda Johnson of Gorman; grandchildren, Amanda Brown and James Brown of Gorman; sister, Betty Cook of Fort Worth; brother, James Burns of Rising Star.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny C. and Louise Burns; brother, Johnny P. Burns; and a sister, Dorothy Henson.

Morgan Fleming
Morgan Fleming, 67, of Cisco passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2007 in San Angelo. 
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Thursday, December 27, 2007 at Redeemer Lutheran Church officiated by Pastor Curtis Schneider.   Burial will be in the Redeemer Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of Kimbrough Funeral Home.  Visitation was held Wednesday 6:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Morgan was born December 7, 1940 in Scranton, Texas to John Willie and Frances Alabama (Morgan) Fleming.  He married Marilyn Wende on June 1, 1963 in Cisco and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.  He worked at S and M Supply, Cisco Police Department, Eastland County and for a number of years was an agent for Abilene Reporter News.
  He is survived by his wife Marilyn of Cisco; sons, Brian Morgan Fleming and wife Anna of Richardson, Bradley Paul Fleming and wife Christy  of Rising Star; daughter, Sandra Kay Parsley and husband Gary of Midland; brothers, L.J. Fleming and wife Faye of Brownwood, Alton Fleming and wife Joyce of Clyde, sister, Patty Killough of Waco; grandchildren, Stefan Parsley, Kelsey Parsley, Derick Parsley, Brantley Fleming, Bri Fleming, Aiden Fleming, Keiran Fleming, Alyssa Fleming.
  Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Humphries, Glen Morgan, Jerry Morgan, Mackey Morgan, Frank Weise and Robert Dunning.

 Edna Lorena Files Roney
Edna Lorena Files Roney, 87, of Gorman, Texas passed away in Eastland at Eastland Memorial Hosptial.
Funeral services will be Thursday, December 27, 2007 at the Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Danny Brown and Leo Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery directed by Higginbotham Funeral Home of Gorman.
She was born in Gorman, Texas on December 19, 1921 as the only daughter and fifth child of the late Henry Owen Files and Minnie Pearl Couch Files. There were four older brothers. She graduated from Gorman High School in 1939. She attended Ranger Junior College and graduated in 1941, “with cum laude”, Associate in Arts degree. She attended the University of Houston, 1941-1942, Houston, TX. She met the love of her live William G. Roney then wed on November 11, 1942. She taught in Carbon High School 1942-43. She taught in Young Ward School, Ranger, TX and Wagarville Grade School in Wagarville, Alabama. She returned to Arlington, TX, she taught the couples class in the North Side Baptist Church. She was the churches first secretary. She attended Texas Christian University and graduated from T.C.U. with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Education, 1952. She taught school in Olney Elemetnary Olney, TX. she went to Lamesa, TX, teaching in Central Elementary for 4 years. In 1960 she moved to Breckenridge, TX and began teaching in North Elementary School. She taught fifth and sixth a few years. Then found her calling it was teaching fourth grade for 20 years, until her retirement in 1983. She was a Life Member of Texas State Teachers Association and a member of Texas Retired Teachers Association. She taught 31 years at the time of her death.
She was a member of the Gorman First Baptist Church, Gorman, TX. She taught a group of senior ladies, The Willing Workers Class, Oct. 1998-2000. Where ever she was she was teaching, a Sunday School class.
She was preceded in death by her husband on April 25, 1979. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Clarence H Files, Harvey F. Files, Sr., Ira L. Files and Elbert E Files.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Michael and husband, James Michael; three granddaughters, Lorena Michael, Jamie Michael and Angela Cheek and husband Curtis Cheek; two great-granddaughters Danni Bree Cheek and Sadie Cheek, all of Cisco. She is also survived by one niece and four nephews.
Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren, and her Sunday School Class.

Juanita Mae Wallace
Juanita Mae Wallace, 87, of Denver City, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2007. 
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 23, 2007 at 1:00 PM in the Kimbrough Funeral Home Chapel in Cisco officiated by Lee Lewis.  Burial followed in the Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Kimbrough Funeral Home.
  Mrs. Wallace was born on April 4, 1920, to Jess and Della (Harrell) Ellis in Shamrock, Oklahoma.  She attended school in Cisco.
  She was a secretary in the Oil Industry for many years.  She retired from the Gruy Oil Company in Dallas and was a member of the Church of Christ.
  She is survived by a daughter, Tia Jackson and husband, Marlyn, of Denver City; one son, David Little and wife, Peggy, of Dallas; two sisters, Coise Cawley of Montgomery, Texas and Georgia Walker of Conroe; five grandchildren, David Jackson of Bakersfield, CA, Brett Jackson of Denver City, Amy Kelly of Austin, Julie Maddox of North Carolina and Laurie Beth Little of Hollywood, CA;  thirteen grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

 Jack R. Jones
Jack R. Jones, 82, of Cross Plains, died Friday, December 21, 2007 in Early at C.A.R.E., Inc.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, December 24, 2007 at Higginbotham Chapel with Larry Copeland officiating. Burial followed in the Cottonwood Cemetery in Callahan County.
He was born on February 5, 1925 to James M. and Effie P. (Coffey) Jones in Brown County, Texas. Jack attended school in Rising Star and graduated from Grand Falls High School in 1942. Jack joined the United States Navy shortly after he graduated and served in Bora Bora and Somoa on a PT boat; he was on 1 of 2 boats out of 100 that survived an attack at Somoa.
In 1947 he returned to Rising Star where he met and married Uva M. Hellums on January 11. Jack worked for Halliburton in Farmington, NM; then for El Paso Gas in Farmington, NM and Ignacio, CO for a total of 20 years; after moving to Cross Plains he worked for the CPISD for 1 years then worked for the Diboil ISD for 11 years, then retired and made their home here in Cross Plains for the last 17 years. Jack and Uva celebrated 60 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on July 20, 2007.
Survivors include his daughter, Effie Dawkins and husband Don of Brownwood; son, Randy Jones of Pomeroy, Washington; brother, Carter Jones of Dublin; sisters, Shirley Mangum and Betty Godfrey both of Midland; sisters-in-law, Edith Jones, Pauline Parsons, and LaFond Ghormley; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Uva; a sister, Treleta Martin and a brother, Mac Jones.
The family received friends and relatives at the Higginbotham Funeral Home in Cross Plains for a time of vistiation on Sunday, Dec. 23.

Chrystine Nance
Chrystine Nance, 85, of Cisco passed away Friday, December 21, 2007 at Valley View Healthcare Center in Eastland.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday, December 28, 2007 at Kimbrough Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Reverend C.P. Floyd. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Kimbrough Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday at the Funeral Home.
Mrs. Nance was born in DeLeon, Texas on January 4, 19 22 to Emory and Julia (Ward) Foster.
She married James Colley Nance on March 14, 19 42 in Scranton , Texas . He preceded her in death May 1, 19 67 . She was a member East Cisco Baptist Church .
Through the years, Chrystine was employed by Boss Manufacturing Company, Eastland Memorial Hospital, Russell Newman Lingerie Outlet and part-time secretary at East Cisco Baptist Church .
She is survived by daughters, Wanda Andrews and husband, Joe, of Lovington, NM, Betty Hogan and husband, Gail, of Cisco; son, Larry Nance and wife, Lacyne, of San Diego, CA; sister, Mildred Jackson of Bastrop; grandchildren, Tammy Hobbs, Lana Posey, James Hogan, Kristi Underwood, Chris Nance and Nicole Nance; great grandchildren, Nathan Posey, Matt Posey, Linsey Underwood and Alex Hogan.
Pallbearers will be Robert Hobbs, Nathan Posey, Matthew Posey, James Hogan, Mike Underwood, Chris Nance, Christian Peal and Alex Hogan.

Johnny Darrell Butler
Johnny Darrell Butler, 65, of Wingate, died Friday at a local hospital.
Services were to be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack Stevens officiating. Burial was to follow in the Clyde Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.
Mr Butler was born June 29, 1942, in Hawthorne, Nevada to John Henry and Geneva Mae (Hagar) Butler. He moved from Nevada as a small boy. He was raised in Runnels County and attended school in Winters. Mr. Butler served in the United States Army. He worked as a Heavy Equipment operator for Runnels County for over 22 years. He was a member of the Southside Baptist Church in Winters.
Survivors include his mother, Geneva Hallmark, of Clyde; two sisters, Betty Mullins of Clyde and Sherry Moore of Redwood, California; two brothers, Walter Butler of Mariposa, California and Roy Butler of Phoenix, Arizona; his finace’ Desiree Gideon of Clyde; a cousin, Larry Finney of Fresno, CA. and many nieces and nephews.
Johnny was preceded in death by his father, John Butler; his step-fatherVonnie Hallmark and brother, Danny Butler.
Visitation was from 6:00 p.m. to 7: 30 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Stella Carwile Scott
Stella Carwile Scott, 102, formerly of Gorman, passed away Monday, December 17, 2007.
Stella was living in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the time of her death.
Graveside services were held at the Oakland Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 20, 2007 with Durward Webb officiating. Services under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Home in Gorman.
She was born November 3, 1905 in Comanche County, Texas. She married Fletch Carwile on January 8, 1925 at Rock Bluff. He died on January 30, 1969. Stella later married George Scott of DeLeon on July 6, 1971. George died July 13, 1980. Stella was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include one daughter, Johnnie L. Johnson of Albuquerque, NM; and a stepdaughter, Jo Francis Brewer of Graham, TX. Stella lived with her two granddaughters, Connie Robison and Beverly Sheridan in Albuquerque, New Mexico for the last 5 years of her life. She is also survived by 4 generations of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She will be dearly missed by many and loved very deeply.

Ann Thornton Blue
MINGUS- Ann Thornton Blue, 96, died Tuesday, December 18, 2007 in a Granbury nursing home.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2007 at the Mingus Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Haggard officiating. Burial followed in Hannibal Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Strawn, Texas.
Ann was born on August 1, 1911 in Huckaby, Texas to Wesley and Mae (Messiner) Thornton. She married Earl Blue, Sr. in 1934 and together they had five children. Ann was a resident off and on of Mingus, Texas for 60 years. She was affectionately known as “Grannie” by everyone who knew her.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl; one daughter, Patsy Williams; two grandsons, Ty Larry Blue and Billy Jack Slaughter; and one great-granddaughter, Ronda Lee Stephens.
Mrs. Blue is survived by two sons, Larry Blue of Odessa and Earl Blue, Jr. of Abilene; two daughters, Betty Rogers of Mingus and Shara Rainwater of Montgomery, Texas; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren.

Edith Laverne Nigar
Edith Laverne Nigar, 76, of Clyde, died Friday, December 14, 2007 at a local hospital.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at Southside Baptist Church with Brother Billy Sellers officiating. Burial followed in the Clyde Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Nigar was born March 1, 1931 in Roscoe to Levi and Eula (Long) Bennett. She attended schools at Cottonwood and Cross Plains. She married Eddie Nigar on April 17, 1948 in Baird. They moved to Clyde from May in 1963. Mrs. Nigar was a homemaker and a member of Southside Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Eddie of Clyde; three sons, Eddie Nigar of Sequin, Mike Nigar and wife, Kelly of Cyde, and Donnie Nigar of Clyde; three daughters, Vicki Stephens and husband, Dalton of Oatmeal, TX, Kathy Buster and husband, Eddie of North Richland Hills, and Sandra Buster and Ronald of Clyde; three brothers, Weldon Bennett of Lake Brownwood, Billy Bennett of Rockport and Jerry Bennett of Abilene; 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Mary Torricelli; one sister, Glenda Strange; one brother, Dee Bennett; and two grandsons, Joseph Wayne and Steven Stanley Buster.

Delsie Faye Vaughn
EASTLAND- Delsie Faye Vaughn went to be with the Lord on December 18, 2007 surrounded by her devoted husband and children.
Faye was born January 6, 1930 to Aaron Custer and Ursula Crossnoe White in Rising Star, Texas.
A vistiation was held at Edwards Funeral Home on Thursday, December 20, 2007 from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. Funeral services were held at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, December 21, 2007 at 1 p.m. with Reverend Jim Wright officiating. Burial followed at the Greenleaf Cemetery located in Brownwood, Texas.
Mrs. Vaughn began her career with Texas Electric Utility Company in Fort Worth, Texas in 1975. She transferred to the Eastland, Texas office in 1985 and retired after seventeen years of service.
Faye enjoyed playing games, gardening, reading and cooking. She was a member of the First Christian Church and attended the Eastland Senior Citizens Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister; her brother; a grandson, Calvin Morris; and a granddaughter, Aimee Lynn.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ronald Vaughn of Lake Leon; son and daughter-in-law, Chester Morris and Debbie Forgy of Grapevine, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Gene King of Houston, Texas; and daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Joe Williamson of Bedford, Texas. Grandchildren include Jim Forgy of Chesapeake, VA, Amber Peters of Blue Mound, TX, Rebecca Cortez of Dickinson, TX, Joe Williamson, III of Haltom City, TX, and Kathryn Parker of Euless, TX.
Faye was blessed with nine great-grandchildren.
Grandsons and grandson-in-laws served as pallbearers.
Faye was the matriarch of our family that held us all together. She was loved and will be missed by us all.

Gene Shackelford, Jr.
Gene Shackelford, Jr., 59, died December 15, 2007 in Denton.
Services were held Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007 at 10 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Denton with Rev. Steve Nilmeier officiating. Graveside services were held at 2 p..m. in the Johnson Cemetery in Munday, TX. Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home in Stamford was in charge of the arrangements.
He was born January 10, 1948 in Knox City, Texas, to Gene Shackelford, Sr. and Billie Maurine Hill Shackelford. He graduated from Stamford High School in
In 2001, he received Mirabear B. Lamar “Award of Excellence” from the Masonic Lodge #716 in Gorman.
He married Marsha Lynn Royall on June 6, 1969, in Stamford. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Denton.
Survivors are his wife, Marsha of Denton; daughters, Stacie Leah and husband, Josh Stegman of Wylie, and Jennifer Ann and husband, Blake Guthery of Early; son, Kelly Dale and wife, Margaret Shackelford of Bowie, TX; father, Gene Shackelford of Stamford; sister, Vickie Jones of Hawley; 4 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Billie on January 16, 2002.

Buford Waggoner
EASTLAND- Buford Waggoner, age 86, of San Angelo, passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2007.
Funeral services were held at 2 PM on Friday, December 21, 2007 at the Merriman Cemetery pavilion. Dr. Shawn Brewer of the First Baptist Church in Eastland officiated the services that were held under the direction of the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home.
Buford Waggoner was born on November 21, 1921 in Ranger to Charles W. Waggoner and Alta Wells Waggoner. Buford graduated from Ranger High School in 1939. He honored his country by serving in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He flew 35 missions over Germany operating as a B-17 “Belly-Gunner”. He was awarded a Purple Heart having been wounded over Colblenz, Germany in 1944.
He married his wife of over 67 years, Roselle Nicholson on July 21, 1940 in Ranger.
He is survived by his loving wife Roselle of San Angelo; sons, Richard Waggoner of San Angelo and Alan Waggoner and wife Lois of Vernon; a daughter, Susan Waggoner Clark and husband Larry of San Angelo; five granddaughters, Shelley Waggoner Boyd and husband Joe of San Angelo, Leslie Waggoner Hayes and husband Lex of Corsicana, Lacy Clark of San Antonio, Christy Waggoner DeLeon and husband Trent of China Springs and Mary Megan Clark of San Antonio; one great grandson, Cody Wayne Hayes; a brother, Charles Loyd Waggoner of New Orleans; one brother-in-law, Lynn Nicholson and wife Beverly of Lake Leon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, H.O. and Woody Waggoner, and a nephew Brad Alan Nicholson.
Memorial donations in Buford’s name may be made to the Merriman Cemetery Association in Ranger or to The West Texas Boys Ranch Foundation in San Angelo.

Ida Carter
Ida Carter, 81, passed away Monday, December 17, 2007 in Ranger, TX.
Graveside services were held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 20, 2007 in the Howard Cemetery. Arrangements by Edwards Funeral Home in Ranger.

Belle Hunsaker Everheart
Services for Belle Hunsaker Everheart were held Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Rotan. Rev. Jack Dominquez and the Rev. Johnny Robertson officiated. Burial was in the Rotan Cemetery under the direction of Weathersbee Ray Funeral Home in Rotan.
Mrs. Everheart was born March 28, 1924 in Rotan to William Lee and Mae Estella Morrow. She was the youngest of nine children. She graduated from Rotan High School and attended Mary Hardin Baylor. She married Forrest E. Hunsaker on May 16, 1942 in Victoria, Texas. They farmed in Fisher county until his death in 1991. She married Lee E. Everheart on October 18, 1999 in Rotan. She was a homemaker and active in the First United Methodist Church of Rotan. They moved to Lubbock in 2001 and to Amarillo in 2004.
She was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers, Ira Morrow, Raymond Morrow, Jessie Morrow, Ruple Morrow, Preston Morrow and Juston Morrow; and two sisters, Clara Carter and Lula Mae Crawford.
Survivors include her husband, Lee of Amarillo; two sons, Wesley Morrow Hunsaker and wife, Cecilia of Rotan and Perry Hunsaker and wife, Jeanie of Amarillo; one daughter, Suzanna Wilson of Childress; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Pirtle Hunsaker and wife, Norma of Cisco.
The family requests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Rotan, P.O. Box 337 Rotan, TX 79546.
Pallbearers were grandsons: Jeff Hunsaker, Mike Wilson, Dusty Hunsaker, Josh Wilson, Billy Burns, Jeff Vanlandingham, Brian Carreon, and D.J. Alvarado.

Sylvia Dianne Pence
Sylvia Dianne Pence, 56, of Ruidoso, NM and formerly of Clyde and Cisco, died Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at her home.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, December 17, 2007 at the Bible Baptist Church in Clyde with the Rev. Larry Hooper officiating. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Scranton Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home in Clyde.
Dianne was born January 29, 1951 in Baird to Dale and Roma (Reese) Boland. She grew up and attended Cisco High School. She received her LVN degree from Howard County Junior College in Big Spring. She worked at nursing homes and hospitals in Midland, Clyde and Enid, Oklahoma. She retired from nursing in 1993, after working in labor and delivery for Parkland Hospital in Dallas. She had moved to Ruidoso from Clyde in October of 2006. She was a devout Christian and a member of the Baptist Church.
Dianne is survived by two sons, Brad Pence and wife Melissa of St. Louis, MO and Jason Pence of Willow Park, TX; her mother Roma Fikes Boland of Clyde; her father, Dale Boland of Lovington, NM; one brother, Dennis Boland of Clyde; and five grandchildren, Dillon, Reid, Emma, Grayson and Drew Pence.

Martin Castaneda, Jr.
Martin Castaneda, Jr. died Monday, December 17, 2007 in Ranger.
He was born on October 12, 1936 in Karnes City, Tx. He was the son of Estefana Rodriguez, and Martin Castaneda Sr. Martin spent most his life as a farmer, and enjoyed singing, playing the guitar and accordion. In September 1961 he married Juanita Diaz in Hershey, NE. Together they have one son and three daughters: Anita Castaneda of Sweetwater Tx., Stephanie Lopez of Ranger Tx., Albert Castaneda Sr. of Tyler Tx., and Esther Cabrerra of Snyder Tx.
Mr. Castaneda has two granddaughters, twelve grandsons, and twelve great grandchildren. As well as four sisters and six brothers.
Burial was held at the Evergreen Cemetery on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at 3 p.m. under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Ranger, Texas.
Pallbearers include grandsons Raynaldo Lopez, Jr., Michael Hermosillo, Albert Castaneda Jr., and Dominic Cabrerra. Prayer services will be held by Robert Arthurs.

Doris Walraven
Doris Walraven, 86, of Clyde, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2007. Services were to be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at North’s Memorial Chapel, with Larry Hooper officiating. Burial was to follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, under the direction of North’s Funeral Home. The family received friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday evening at North’s Funeral Home, 242 Orange St.
Doris was a dedicated Christian (became a Christian as a teenager, then kept the church nursery for about thirty years). She was the wife of J.V. Walraven for 65 years. She was a stay at home mother, to Jimmie, Jeanie and Jodi. Doris made every occasion fun. She loved playing games and practical jokes. Doris was creative in many ways. She could sew beautifully and crafted wonderful things out of what most of us would throw away. She worked as a professional, both pioneering the way for women in the workplace during World War II and running a home-based business.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters and one brother.
She is survived by one son, Jim Walraven and wife Linda, two daughters; Jeanie Sherrill and husband Woody of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jodi Carr and husband Jeff of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; three sisters, Mable Morrison of Lampasas, Texas; Pauline Wright of Haltom City, Texas, and twin sister, Dottie Hastings of Hamlin, Texas; one brother, John Hudson of Hamlin, Texas, five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Alpha Geraldine “Gerry” Barnett
Alpha Geraldine “Gerry” (Nancy) Barnett, 74, of Clyde died Sunday at a local hospital. Funeral services were to be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 13, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Clyde with Pastor Bryan Cauthen officiating. Burial was to follow in the Clyde Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.
Gerry was born May 16, 1933 in Winters, Texas to Ralph Elmo and Verma Alpha “Hagar) Briley. She graduated from Abilene High School She married Jesse Barnett on December 31, 1949 in Abilene. They moved to Clyde from Abilene in 1975. Gerry was the Cadet Sponsor of the Capers Drill Team at Hardin-Simmons University. She also worked at Mott’s variety store in Clyde for several years. She was a homemaker and a member of Minter Lane Church of Christ in Abilene.
Survivors include her husband, Jesse of Clyde; two sons, Wayne Barnett and wife Janet of Abilene and Rickie Barnett and wife Victoria of Pahrump, Nevada; three daughters, Diane Riddle and husband Ron of Clyde, Rhonda Joeris and husband John of Winters and Kelly Nigar and husband Mike, also of Clyde; one brother, Larry Don Briley and wife Barbara of Odessa, seventeen grandchildren, eleven grea-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and one grandson, Shawn Martin Jones.
Visitation was from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Louis Nathaniel Sines
Louis Nathaniel Sines, 86, passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at an Abilene medical facility.
Louis was born on June 11, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois to Raymon Sines and Vida (Stone) Sines. As a young man, in high school and college he was an accomplished musician who formed his own dance band, playing at Colorado ski resorts and various radio stations. He attended Elmhurst College in Illinois and graduated from I.I.T. with a degree in chemical engineering. On June 5, 1943, he married Lois Johnston, and they had four children. After a successful career working for the United States Army in Buffalo, New York and Joliet, Illinois, the Sines’ bought a farm in Mermet, Illinois, where they farmed for over 25 years. Upon retirement from farming, Louis and Lois moved to Clyde, Texas.
Louis was a 50-year Mason and served in Lodge #600 in Grandchain, Illinois, as well as in Lodge #1056 in Clyde, Texas.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond ad Vida Sines, a brother, Frederick, and a grandson, Jeffrey Kimbrell.
He is survived by his wife; Lois, his sons; Raymond, Richard and his daughtr, Diane Harris, all of Clyde, Texas; and his daughter Linda Kimbrell of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by two sisters, Wanda Hepler of Cameron Park, California and Patricia Burke of Blue Eye, Missouri; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Masonic memorial services were to be held at a pending date at West Olive, Michigan.

Sylvia Dianne Pence
Sylvia Dianne Pence, 56, of Ruidosa, NM and formerly of Clyde and Cisco, died Wednesday at her home.
Services were to be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday a the Bible Baptist Church in Clyde with the Rev. Larry Hooper. Graveside services were to be at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Scranton Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home. Visitation was on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
Dianne was born January 29, 1951 in Baird, to Dale and Roma (Reese) Boland. She grew up and attended Cisco High School. She received her L.V.N. degree from Howard County Junior College in Big Spring, TX. She worked at nursing homes and hospitals in Midland, Clyde and Enid, Oklahoma. She retired from nursing in 1993, after working in labor and delivery for Parkland Hospital in Dallas. She had moved to Ruidoso from Clyde in October of 2006. She was a devout Christian and a member of the Baptist Church.
Dianne is survived by two sons, Brad Pence and wife Melissa of St. Louis, MO and Jason Pence of Willow Park, TX; her mother, Roma Fikes Boland of Clyde; her father, Dale Boland of Lovington, NM; one brother Dennis Boland of Clyde and five grandchildren, Dillon, Reid, Emma, Grayson and Drew Pence.

Edith Laverne Nigar
Edith Laverne Nigar, 76, of Clyde, died Friday at a local hospital.
Services were to be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Southside Baptist Church with Brother Billy Sellers officiating. Burial was to follow in the Clyde Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home. Visitation was from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. on Monday at the Funeral Home.
Mrs. Nigar was born March 1, 1931 in Roscoe to Levi and Eula (Long) Bennett. She attended schools at Cottonwood and Cross Plains. She married Eddie Nigar on April 17, 1948 in Baird. They moved to Clyde from May in 1963. Mrs. Nigar was a homemaker and a member of Southside Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Eddie of Clyde; three sons, Eddie of Clyde; three sons, Eddie Nigar of Seguin, Mike Nigar and wife, Kelly of Clyde and Donnie Nigar also of Clyde; three daughters, Vicki Stephens and husband, Dalton of Oatmeal, TX, Kathy Buster and husband, Eddie of North Richland Hills and Sandra Buster and husband, Ronald, also of Clyde; three brothers, Weldon Bennett of Lake Brownwood, Billy Bennett of Rockport and Jerry Bennett of Abilene; seventeen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Mary Torricelli, one sister, Glenda Strange, one brothers, Dee Bennett and two grandsons, Joseph Wayne and Steven Stanley Buster.

Deborah Ruth “Debbie” Smith
Deborah Ruth “Debbie” Smith, 51, of Clyde, died Sunday at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wendesday at Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Hooper officiating. Burial followed in the Clyde Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.
Debbie was born September 20, 1956, in Iraan, Texas. She grew up and attended school in Monahans. She married Ronnie Smith on December 30, 2001 in Clyde. She came to Clyde from the Monahans/Crane area in 2001. Debbie was a homemaker and a member of the Bible Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband Ronnie of Clyde; two sons, Douglas “Chip” Spurrier of Clyde and Scott Smith of Abilene; two daughters, Amber Mayhugh and husband, Johnny of Clyde and Kasi Hagan and husband, Kevin of Clyde; her mother and step-father, Patsy Smith and Angelo McAnally of Monahans; three brothers, Danny Barnett of Monahans, Billy Barnett of Giddings; three sisters, Cindy McCall of Monahans, Lisa Davidson of Brownwood and Carrie Cecil of Coleman and four grandchildren.
Deborah was preceded in death by her father, William Joseph Barnett, Jr.
Visitation was from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mildred M. Allen
Mildred M. Allen, 88, of Albany, Texas, died December 10, 2007 in an Albany Nursing Home.
She was born December 10, 1919 in Avoca, Texas.
She married Wimer Wilford Allen on December 27, 1937. He preceded her in death October 14, 1977.
Mrs. Allen owned and operated Mildred Fabric Shop in Albany for 37 years. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by two daughters Joanna Parrott and husband, Bob of Lubbock and Ginger Mangum Lucky and husband, Tim of Eastland; 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one son, Will Allen and two brothers, Gene Nelson and Leonard Nelson.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, December 13, 2007 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Rick Serena officiating. Interment followed at the Albany Cemetery under the direction of Godfrey-Neese Funeral Home.

Dena was born April 15, 1919 in Healdton, Oklahoma to Otis Stanton and Lucy Pearl (Michie) Carroll. She was a resident of San Angelo for 12 years and a member of First Christian Church. She worked an office manager in the oil production industry.
Dena was married to Buel Edward Wood on September 4, 1937 in Eastland , Texas .
She was also preceded in death by her husband, three brothers Mickie Carroll, Alfred Carroll, Beauford Carroll and three sisters Ventie Sanderson, Eunice Duncan and Tommie Norvell.
Survivors include her son Tom Wood and wife Joanne of Paris, TX. and three grandsons Matt Wood of Austin , TX. , Sam Wood of Albuquerque, NM and Eric Wood of Brookings, South Dakota.

Mr. Campbell was a Master Mason and a Past Master in Bellville, Cross Plains, and Vernon , Texas . He belonged to Unity Lodge #627 and Chapter and Council of Houma, Louisiana. He was an Eastern Star and Past Worthy Patron of Chapter 611, Bellville, Texas and Vernon Chapter 424, Vernon , Texas , A.W. Connely Chapter 117 of Houma, Louisiana. .
Survivors include his wife, Mary Wilson Campbell of Montegut, LA; sons, Alton Earl Jr. “Rusty” and wife Audrey, Benny Franklin and wife Punkin, Clifford and wife Cheryl; daughter, Tajuana “T.J.” Pellergin and husband Keith; 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 6 step step grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren and sister, Elizabeth Crowder.

James Duane ‘Mac’ McDaniel
CARBON- James Duane “Mac” McDaniel, age 64, of Carbon, Texas left this world to his eternal life on Thursday, December 13, 2007. He passed at home with his family.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 15, 2007 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Carbon under the direction of Summers-Bakker Funeral Home in Eastland with Brother Ken Smith officiating. Burial was at Long Branch Cemetery.
Duane was born on October 7, 1943 in the Blackwell Hospital in Gorman to James Elmer McDaniel and Katha Rlee Lovell McDaniel. James Duane joined the Army in August 1962 to serve his country. He was stationed in Bamberg, Germany during the Vietnam War. He was a Fire Construction Operator for the Hawk Missile Battalion. He then served in the reserves until discharge in 1965. Duane married Nelda June Hogan on October 14, 1966 in Carbon. They were married at the First Baptist Church of Carbon. He was a Heavy equipment operator for many construction and oilfield companies. Duane returned to farming peanuts and raising cattle after he was severely injured in a truck wreck in 1987. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carbon and was the Music Minister. He received the Defender of the Constitution Award in 2003 and the NRA Institute for Legislative Action Defender of the Second Amendment Award in 2005.
Duane was preceded in death by his father James Elmer (Short) McDaniel and a granddaughter Audrey Breann McDaniel.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years Nelda; one daughter Shana Davis and son-in-law Wayne Davis of Carbon; one son John Michael McDaniel and daughter-in-law Ginger McDaniel of Malakoff; three grandsons, Justin and Jacob Davis of Carbon, Alex McDaniel of Malakoff; one step-grandson Austin Morman of Malakoff; and his mother, Rlee McDaniel of Carbon. Friend closer than a brother, Bobby Newport and wife Lou of Carbon; adopted friends and kids Beau, Gina, Lilly and Cordell Harper of Cisco; and two dear nephews, Jason and Joshua Prince of the Metroplex.
Duane loved God, his country, his wife, family and friends.

Harvey P. Cowley
EASTLAND- Harvey P. Cowley, age 89, of Eastland died Wednesday December 12, 2007 in Eastland.
A Memorial Service was held at 11 A.M. Saturday, December 15, 2007 in the First United Methodist Church in Eastland. Entombment followed in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill Pennsylvania .
Harvey was born in Cornwell Heights Pa. October 15, 1918. He earned a degree in Chemical Engineering. He was an associate of Harvey, Barnett & Cowley Associates in Harrisburg Pa. for 40 years. He married Ruth Bender in North Hampton Pa. June 26, 1943. He was elected as Tax Collector for Camp Hill Pa. for 7 years, Camp Hill School Board, Tri County Child Guidance Board, President of the Civil Service Commission, State of Pennsylvania Historical Museum Commissioner, received Pennsylvania State Citation for Volunteerism.
He was a Mason, receiving his first three degrees in the William S. Snyder Lodge serving as Past Master. A Past Commander and Life Member of Pilgrim Commandry Knights Templar, Zembro Temple of the Shrine, Perseverance Royal Arch Chapter, President of the Harrisburg Masonic School of Instruction.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eastland.
Survived by wife, Ruth Cowley of Eastland Texas;
son, H. Paul Cowley and wife Robin of Oakland California; daughter, Corrie Cowley and husband Gary Ford of Eastland; grandchildren: Elyssa, James and Anna Ford.

Claude Joseph Hearn
Claude Joseph Hearn won the victory December 12, 2007 in Eastland at the age of 92.
Services were held Saturday, December 15, 2007 at 2:30 P.M. at the Daugherty Street Church of Christ in Eastland. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger, TX.
Visitation was Friday evening at the funeral home in Ranger from 6-8:00 P.M.
Claude was born in the Carbon community to Hardy O and Anna (White) Hearn on May 19, 1915. In 1926 his family moved to a farm near Yellow Mound. He lived and worked on the farm until he married Mary Louise Ervin on April 11, 1941. In 1950 he moved with his wife and daughters to Big Spring, TX where he worked for Gulf Oil. He later moved to Odessa where he continued to work for Gulf until his retirement. After retiring he returned to the family farm in Eastland County where he enjoyed raising cattle. His greatest joy, however, cam from visits with his grandchildren. Claude and Mary Louise were members of the Daugherty Street Church on Christ in Eastland, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters; Vida Reese, Opal Hearn, Inez Cogburn, Mary Heitschmidt, and Joy Trout.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise, daughters, Linda Kay Heard and husband Robert, Mary Goodner and husband Bob, grandchildren, Chris Heard and wife Rene, Phillip Hearn and wife Christina, Amelia Emery and husband Jeff, David Goodner, Daniel Goodner, and wife Melissa, and Allen Goodner and wife Samantha, great-grandchildren, Nathan and Nicholas Heard, Regan Hearn and mother Sandra Thornhill, Zachary Hearn and mother Melissa Anderson, Mary Hannah, Ethan, and Eleanor Emery, Sean Gabriel Goodner, and two step great-granddaughters Peyton Davis and Mackenzie Hudson.
He is also survived by on sister, Loma Faye Becker and husband Harry, Brother in law Earl Trout and wife Niles, nieces pat Reed, Anna Wilkins and husband Charles, Vivian Wood and husband Randy, and Tamara Slezia, nephews Robin Peacock and wife DeLaris, Terry Trout and wife R’Jana, and several grand nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Hendrick Hospice for their assistance and the staff of Eastland Healthcare for the loving care they provided during the time he was a resident. We especially thank Dr. Sandy Hazelip who loved and cared for Claude for 25 years and stood by his bedside as the won his victory.

Kyge C. Edmonds
Kyge C. Edmonds, age 61 of Garland, TX, passed away December 6, 2007, after a long struggle with Multiple Myeloma.
He was born April 12, 1946, in Lubbock, TX, to Kyger and Zoma Edmonds. Kyge served his country in the U.S. Army and the Dallas Police Department for 31 years, retiring as Detective on the FBI Violent Crime Task Force.
  He is survived by his wife: Shelia Edmonds of Garland, TX ; son: Kyge Edmonds of Denton, TX; daughter: Kyla Eppler and husband Terry of Lewisville, TX; sister: Edwena Fitzgerald of Longview , TX ; and his parrot Gilbert. He was preceded in death by his parents.
  A memorial service will be held 10:00 am Friday, December 14, 2007, at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rowlett Chapel with Dr. Aubrey Patterson officiating. Inurnment will follow in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery .

Jenoise Lovell Allison
CARBON – Jenoise Lovell Allison, 86, of Carbon, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2007 in Eastland.
Services were held at 2 P.M. Saturday, December 8, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Eastland.  Burial was in the Bear Springs Cemetery, directed by Edwards Funeral Home of Eastland. The family received friends at the church from noon until service time.
     Mrs. Allison was born February 28, 1921 in Center Point Community, Carbon TX to Henry A. and Bonnie E. (Greenwood ) Lovell. She graduated from Carbon High School and North Texas University in Denton . She married Euell Allison on August 30, 1942. She taught school in Arlington , Scranton , and Carbon, retiring in 1983.
     She was steadfastly dedicated to teaching. She was a godly woman, with compassion, who tried to inspire children to excel in a most excellent way. She led a spiritual life and instilled Christian values in her family. Mr. Allison preceded her in death on July 24, 2007. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Eastland and was active in Meals on Wheels and the Carbon Community Center.
     Survivors include two children, Alvie Allison and his wife Linda, of Arlington and Alice Ann Lowrie and her husband Shane of Cleburne; a sister, Bonnie Wynelle Brown of Carbon; and 5 grandchildren, Adrianne Ingram, Stacia Miller, David Allison, Nathan Lowrie, and Kimra Lowrie; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Adran Lee ‘Red’ Nettles
PUTNAM- Adran Lee “Red” Nettles, 81, of Putnam, Texas, died Saturday, December 8, 2007 in an Abilene medical center.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 10, 2007, in the Parker Funeral Home Chapel in Baird with Pastor Lupe Palacio officiating. Interment followed in the Putnam Cemetery.
Adran was born Nov. 10, 1926, in Fisher County to William J. and Beulah Seaton Floyd. She married Benjamin T. Nettles in 1946 in Abilene, Texas. He preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 1998. She was a homemaker, a member of the Baird Church of God, and had lived in Putnam 60 years.
Survivors include two sons, Lee Roy Nettles of Wylie and Jerry Nettles of Lake Worth, TX; 3 daughters, Bonnie Price of Tecumseh, OK., Linda Sennett of Crestview, FL., and Brenda Nettles of Abilene; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Matthew Lee Sanders
Matthew Lee Sanders, 21, of Cisco passed away Saturday, December 8, 2007.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at the First Baptist Church in Cisco with burial in Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Kimbrough Funeral Home.
Matthew was born August 29, 1986, to Tony Lee and Melissa Sue Sanders at Kingman, Arizona. Upon graduation from Cisco High School, Matthew began working at Cisco High-Lift as a welder’s apprentice and machine operator. He has been a member of the IHRA for several years. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his parents, Tony and Melissa Sanders; brother, Shawn; sister, Cassie; fiancé, Samantha Westbrook; grandparents, Peggy Sanders, Sue Leker and John Richards, all of Cisco. Numerous cousins, uncles and aunts survive along with many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Marvin Sanders.

Mary Clark Brinegar
Mary (Clark) Brinegar, age 76, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2007 at her home near Gorman.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 9, 2007 at Murray Cemetery with Richard Watson officiating.
Mary was born June 21, 1931 in Eastland County to Carl Bohannon and Lonie Maness Bohannon. Mary’s first husband, Neal Clark, preceded her in death on April 11, 1970. She later married C.R. Brinegar on April 12, 2001 in Eastland. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist church.
She is survived by husband, C.R. Brinegar of Gorman; and several nieces and nephews .
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Vesta Lee Overstreet and Jimmie Mae Bridges.

Pearl McCartney
TYE- Pearl McCartney, 98, of Tye, died Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at a care center in Ranger, Texas.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 10, 2007 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Rev. Jimmy Hatcher officiating. Burial was in the Tye Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home.
Pearl was born February 17, 1909 to Nackey Ann (Wassom) and John Burns in Stith, Texas. She lived in the Abilene area all of her life. Pearl married John Jay McCartney. She was employed as a cook for Holiday Inn until her retirement. Pearl was a member of First Baptist Church of Tye, Texas, Senior Ladies Sunday School Class at Tye Baptist Church, Senior Citizens Club at the Center; a devoted grandmother to six grandchildren; and a dear friend to many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nackey Ann and John Burns; her husband, John Jay McCartney; a son, Willie Jay McCartney; and a grandson, Mike McCartney.

Conova “Cagle” Weaver, 92, of Sipe Springs, Texas passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2007 at Eastland Healthcare Center in Eastland, Texas.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with David Harris officiating. Burial will be in the Sipe Springs Cemetery in Comanche County, Texas with Higginbotham Funeral Home of Rising Star in charge. 
Conova was born on October 18, 1915 in Eastland County, Texas to Tommy and Mollie Cox-Cagle. She married T.A. “Squab” Weaver on December 15, 1932 in Comanche, Texas. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Rising Star. She lived in Comanche County all her life.
Conva is survived by her son, Covie Weaver and his wife, Sherry of Sachse, TX; daughters, Marita Smith and her husband, Kenneth of Okra, TX; Kenita Rainer of Sipe Springs, TX; 7 grandchildren, Calen Joyce and his wife Anita of Garland, TX; Telesah Hochstetler and her husband, Merlin of Corvellis, MT; Kim Joyce and his wife, Lisa of Goldson, TX; Kenton Joyce and his wife Anja of Conroe, TX; Kyle Joyce of Rising Star, TX; Todd Weaver and his wife, Ann of Frisco, TX; David Weaver and his wife, Heather of Allen, TX; 14 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years T.A.”Squab” Weaver and her parents.

Cathern Lodeska Brister
Cathern Lodeska Brister, age 84, passed away, Sunday, December 9, 2007 at a Ranger nursing home.
Mrs. Brister was born on January 1, 1923 in Fellows, California to Thomas F. Gerrish and Ola Jane (Webster) Gerrish.
Survivors include eight children; four sons, Bill Brister, Robert Brister and Grover Brister all of Ranger and Ralph Brister of King City, CA; four daughters, Joan Thayer of Ranger, Linda Allen of Las Vegas, NV, Judy Klingstien and Karla McIntire both of Pahrump, NV.; one brother, Clifford Gerrish of Centralia, IL; 17 grandchildren; and many, many great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Lawrence Calvin Brister.
There will be a memorial service at a later date. The family request no flowers.

Zelda R. Jordan
Zelda R. Jordan, age 80, passed away Monday, December 3, 2007 at her home in the Kokomo Community near Gorman.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at the Kokomo Baptist Church with Jimmy Nelson and Randy McDonald officiating. Burial followed at Simpson Cemetery.
Zelda was born in Brady, Texas on September 7, 1927 to James E. Lewallen and Lois Webb Lewallen. She married Glenn O. Jordan on October 18, 1946 in Eastland. He preceded her in death on December 12, 1993. Zelda was a homemaker and a member of the Kokomo Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Kokomo Community Center and Simpson Cemetery Association. She had written the Kokomo News for local newspapers for many years. She had worked for Southwestern Peanut Growers Association for several years.
She is survived by a daughter, Glenda Joyce White and husband, Ray of Anson; two sisters, LaVerne Winn of Muleshoe and Barbara Bell of Denver City; six grandchildren, Joe and Viki Miles of Austin, Sheri and Wade Daniell of Abilene, Robert Miles of Louisiana, Kyle Jordan and Kayla Jordan both of Lubbock and Charles White of Anson; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Teddy Dean Jordan; her parents; and four brothers.

Fred W. Coffey, Sr.
TUSCOLA- Fred W. Coffey, Sr., 92, died Monday, December 3, 2007 in an Abilene hospital.
Graveside services were held Thursday, December 6, 2007 at Cedar Gap Cemetery with Rev. David Cason officiating, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home.
Fred was born January 13, 1915, in Leady, Texas, to Oscar Alonzo “Lon” and Clara May Richey Coffey. He farmed at Bradshaw for many years and also worked in the oil field. Prior to his retirement in 1980, he was a mechanic in Abilene for 20 years. He was a member of the Home Ministry of Broadview Baptist Church in Abilene.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lon and Clara Coffey; one sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and O.B. Switzer; a daughter, Evelyn Boyd; and a brother-in-law, Buck Bates.
Survivors are one daughter, Hazel Lambert and husband, David of Tuscola; one son, Fred Coffey and wife Janell of Dudley; one brother, Charles Coffey and wife Shirley of Abilene; one sister, Mary Bates of Cross Plains; one son-in-law, Floyd Boyd of Lake Coleman; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

EASTLAND- Lila Pearl Scott, 85, died November 13, 2007 at her home in Joplin, Missouri.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Eastland Cemetery under the direction of Summers-Bakker Funeral Home.

CARBON- Jenoise Lovell Allison, 87, of Carbon, died Thursday, December 6, 2007 in Eastland.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Eastland. Burial was in the Bear Springs Cemetery, directed by Edwards Funeral Home of Eastland.
The family received friends at the church from noon until service time.

Cay Stockton
ALBANY- Cay Stockton, 78, of Albany, died Monday, December 3, 2007 at his residence.
Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2007 in the Johnson Cemetery, Moran, Texas with Rev. Jack Clack officiating. Services have been entrusted to Morehart Mortuary.
Reginal Cay Stockton was born on February 21, 1929 in Albany, Texas to parents, John Richard Stockton and Stella Virginia Croft Stockton. He grew up in Albany and attended Albany High School. Cay married Wanda Louise “Polly” Mitchell on May 10, 1947 in Abilene. After 42 years of service he retired in 1993 from Morrell Drilling Company. Cay was very proud of his sobriety which began on Nov. 11, 1981, 26 years ago. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved his family and enjoyed spending quality time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Cay was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Welton Stockton, and two sisters, Lucy Ann Mackey and Lamoin Mitchell.
Survivors are his wife, Polly of Albany; one son, Richard “Bunk” Stockton and wife, Lynda of Moran; one daughter, Reginna Agee of Schertz; four grandchildren, Misty Clack and husband, Chad of Dallas, Stacy Capps and husband, Shannon of Texarkana, AR, and Wyatt Agee of Schertz; two great-grandchildren, Colton Capps and Emma Capps both of Texarkana, AR.

Irma “Gege” Jones, 86, of Rising Star, Texas passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2007 at a local Abilene health care center.

Irma was born on February 3, 1921 in Pioneer, Texas to Ben and Emily Ann Harris-Tune. She married Hubert Mearlyn “Rabbit” Jones on June 24, 1938 in Cisco, Texas. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Lynn Jones of Abilene; her daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Covie Weaver of Sachse, TX; four grandchildren, Todd Weaver and his wife Ann of Frisco; David Weaver and his wife Heather of Allen; John Jones and his wife, Tricia of Mineral Wells; Caryl Jones Lawrence and her husband, Howard of Rising Star; special niece, Betty Jones Clay and her husband Greg of Rising Star; ten great grandsons, seven great granddaughters, and one great great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years; her parents; her siblings, Edgar Tune and Athelyn Henry.

EASTLAND- Mary Jo Sims, age 84, of Eastland and formerly of Garland, Odessa and De Leon, died Friday November 30, 2007.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 PM on Monday, December 3, 2007 in Edwards Funeral Home. Burial followed in the De Leon Cemetery.
Born Mary Jo Moreland in De Leon on July 19, 1923 to Guy Oscar and Ethyl (Haynes) Moreland. She was a Graduate of De Leon High School where she enjoyed being in the Pep Squad. She married Billy Jack Sims February 10, 1940 and they made their home in Gorman. After WWII they moved to Odessa where she was active in Church, Bridge Club, Women’s Club and raising her family. After Mr. Sims retirement from Humble Oil in 1966 they moved to Garland Texas. In Garland they opened the Farmers Insurance Agency which they operated for 30 years. She was a member of the Southfork Baptist Church in Garland and was a Woman of Faith, enjoyed social events and was “always on the go”.
She is survived by: daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Ken Songer of Rising Star, Texas; son and friend Jerry P. Sims and Ruth of Mesquite Texas, son David Jack Sims of Garland; 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother Vernon T. Moreland and an aunt Sula Haynes Peterson.

Mary Tince Thompson
Mary (Tince) Thompson, 83, of Gorman passed away at her home Friday, November 30, 2007.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2007 at the Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Richard Watson officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery.
She was born December 16, 1923 in Taylor County to Walter Freeman and Rosa Williams Freeman. She married S.W. Thompson on April 22, 1944 in Howard County, Texas. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist church.
Survivors include her husband, S.W. Thompson of Gorman; two daughters, Lenora Speer and husband, Jesse of Ranger and Doris Marshall and husband, Jerry of Temple; one son, Larry Thompson and wife, Kristi of Gorman; one brother, Clavin Freeman of Round Rock; two sisters, Ethel Carruth of Comanche and Dorothy McDaniel of Santa Anna; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters and a daughter, Ethel Johnston.

Charlie McGuire
EASTLAND – Charlie McGuire, 70, of Eastland, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2007 in an Eastland hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday, December 6, 2007 at the Lake Leon Baptist Church with Rev. Harry Garvin officiating. Services are being conducted by Edwards Funeral Home of Eastland.
Mr. McGuire was born on September 27, 1937 in Elkhorn, KY to Herman & Irene (Salyer) McGuire. He grew up in Erwin, TN, where he graduated high school in 1955. He was honorably discharged from the US Navy after serving for 4 years. He married Betty Lou Sanders in 1962 in Hedley, Texas. He received a Bachelors Degree from West Texas State University. He began working as a conductor for Santa Fe Railroad, retiring in 2000. In 2002 he moved to Lake Leon.
He enjoyed playing the guitar, and was very well-read. He also loved painting. He was a proud member of the Artists of Eastland County. He loved fishing and life at the lake and truly enjoyed life to the fullest.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Susie Gearhart.
Survivors include his wife, Betty of Lake Leon; 2 sons & daughter-in-laws, Michael & Audra McGuire of Lillian, AL, and Mark & Melody McGuire of Amarillo, a daughter & son-in-law, Melanie & Bob Kroelinger of Burleson; 1 brother, John McGuire of Lakeland, FL; 1 sister, Linda Lewis of Overgaard, AZ; 7 grandchildren, Benn, Alaina & Aaron McGuire, Zachary & Jason McGuire and Bobby & Justus Kroelinger.

RANGER- Olive F. Sanchez, 87, of Ranger passed away Dec. 3, 2007.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. in the Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger. Visitation was that morning until service time. Services provided by Edwards Funeral Home of Ranger.
Mrs. Sanchez was born on January 29, 1920 in San Antonio, TX. Her family relocated soon after to Chicago, IL where she met and married Lawrence Sanchez. They were married 66 years until his passing in 2003. She was joined on earth with love, honor and devotion for her family. She is joined with her beloved husband in Heaven with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. She will be greatly missed but always loved.
She is preceded in death by her husband, and a daughter, Betty Conway.
She is survived by her 12 children, 27 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Aulton Lee ‘Al’ Pruitt
Aulton Lee “Al” Pruitt, 87, died Sunday, November 25, 2007 at an Abilene medical center.
Born in Ranger, Texas in 1920, he was the son of Cora Ella (Reynolds) and Elias Bonell Pruitt. He started to school at Butman, a two room schoolhouse, and attended school in Caps and at Abilene High School before graduating from Hawley High School. Al married Margie Valree West of Trent, Texas in 1941. He was a lifelong resident of Abilene.
He worked for the Railway Express Agency for 33 years and also was the express agent at Colorado City, Texas for five years.
He was a member of the Church of Christ, Masonic Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans.
He served in the U.S. Army as an Infantry staff sergeant during World War II, having taken part in the invasion on the Island of Guam and also in the invasion on the Island of Lyte in the Philippines, where he was wounded. He received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Captain F. M. Pruitt of the Abilene Police Department for 32 years, T.G. Pruitt, who worked for the Abilene Reporter News for 45 years, and Marvin Pruitt, owner of Pruitt Supply in Amarillo.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margie Valree Pruitt of Abilene; one daughter, Pamla Pruitt; one granddaughter, Courtney Lee Pruitt Farr; and two great-grandchildren, Jayden and J’Lee Sloan.
He was “born to be a happy man.” Al had an excellent sense of humor and loved to be with his family and friends.
A graveside service was held Wednesday, November 28 at 2 p.m. in Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel with Pastor Ronnie Newton officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home.

CROSS PLAINS- Laura Jean Chastain, 46, of Cross Plains, died Sunday, November 25, 2007 from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at Higginbotham Chapel with John Swift officiating. Burial followed in the Cross Plains Cemetery in Cross Plains, Texas.
She was born October 25, 1961 in Burley, Idaho to Doyle Eugene and Billie (Livingston) Chastain. She lived most of her life in Woodcrest, CA. She married Carl Grubb in August 1980 and they had two children, Amanda and Clinton. She worked for over 20 years in the Home Health profession, and for Colonial Oaks; Ranger Care Center; Rising Star Nursing Center.
Everyone will remember “Lori” as she was known by her friends and family, for her warmth, kindness and generosity. She will be greatly missed.
Laura is survived by her mother and stepfather, Billie and Robert Stubblefield of Cross Plains; father, Doyle Eugene Chastain of AZ; son, Clinton Grubbs of May, TX; daughter, Amanda Grubbs of AZ; grandson, Trenton of AZ; brothers, Darrel Chastain and wife Cheryl of Cross Plains, Donald Chastain and wife Marilou of Coleman, Richard Chastain of AZ; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Chuck.

W.C. Gardner
RANGER- W. C. Gardner 82 of Ranger passed away on Tuesday at his home. Graveside services will be 2 PM Wednesday in the Mt. Marion Cemetery in Strawn with Rev. Jim Troutman officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Ranger, Texas.
W. C. was born on February 28, 1925 in Leuders, Texas to Clayton and Viola Mae (Hughes) Gardner. He graduated from Cisco High School. W. C. is a World War II Navy veteran. He married Betty Moon on January 8, 1951 in Stephenville, Texas. Mr. Gardner worked as a pumper for Exxon for 37 years, moving all over the state of Texas. When he retired he did the things he loved most, the outdoors, feeding the birds, deer, squirrels and enjoying the wild flowers. Mr. Gardner was a member of the First Baptist Church in Strawn, Texas.
Mr. Gardner is survived by his wife Betty Gardner of Ranger; son Rodney Gardner and wife Kaylan of Menard, Texas, and adopted son Ronney Gardner; one grandson Zac Gardner of Menard, TX.; three cousins Ray Hughes of Gorman, Jerry Hughes of Stamford and Bill Hughes of Kentucky.

Rebecca ‘Becky’ Dossey Simpson
BROWNFIELD--Rebecca ‘Becky’ Dossey Simpson, age 53, of Brownfield, Texas died Monday, November 26, 2007 in Lubbock.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2007 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Schahn officiating. Burial was at Oaklawn Cemetery in Gorman.
Born April 26, 1954 in Odessa, she married Jackie Don Simpson on October 17, 1981 in Gorman. She was a housewife and a member of First Baptist Church in Gorman.
She is survived by her husband, Jackie Don Simpson of Brownfield; three sons, Chance Simpson of Austin, Casey Simpson of Brownfield and Cody Simpson of Lubbock; daughter, Rachel Wilson of DeLeon; parents, Darrell and June Dossey of Gorman; brother, David Lynn Dossey and wife Janet of Breckenridge; sister, Tracy June Spivey of Gorman; sister-in-law, Lesa Dossey of Breckenridge; three grandchildren; as well as seven nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Wayne Dossey.

Mamie Brown Jewell
Mamie Brown Jewell, 94, died Tuesday, November 27, 2007 in Granbury.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 30, 2007 at Wayland Cemetery, Wayland, Texas. Wiley Funeral Home of Granbury was in charge of arrangements.
Mamie was born May 28, 1913 to David A. and Exa Willie Bentley Stewart in Grit, TX. She married Willie Loy Brown on January 2, 1931 in Glen Rose, TX. After his death, she married Vernon Jewell on May 28, 1993 in Eastland, TX. She was a member of the Christadelphian Church and served as an LVN at Hendricks Medical Center in Abilene, retiring in 1975.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; two brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors are sons, Rodney Brown of Athens, TX, Buddy Brown of Larue, TX; daughters, Joyce Long of Abilene, TX and Peggy DuVall of Granbury; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

W.J. ‘Joe’ Cauble
RANGER- William Joseph “Joe” Cauble, 78, of Ranger, died Monday November 26, 2007 in Temple.
Funeral services were held Thursday, November 29, 2007 at 2 P.M. in the Edwards Funeral Chapel in Eastland. Burial followed in the Merriman Cemetery.
Mr. Cauble was born on April 4, 1929 in Clyde to Joe and Edith (Konzak) Cauble. He graduated in 1947 from Ballinger High School. He raised his family in Pecos, Texas where he was active in the Volunteer Fire Department, President of the Jaycee’s and worked for Southern Union and Lone Star Gas Companies. He made an unsuccessful bid for the State Representative Office in 1960. He moved to Fort Worth in 1966 and worked for Allied and Dunlop Tire Company, where he won many top salesman honors. He married Eula Arrington on December 4, 1971 in Eastland. He opened C Wholesale Tire Company in Eastland in 1973 which he continuously operated in Eastland, Olden and Ranger until August 2007, when an accident injured him. He was a member of the Leon River Cowboy Church and enjoyed horses, ranching, camping, dancing, golf, vegetable gardening, hunting and trout fishing. He had boundless energy and enjoyed working and closing business deals.
He is survived by his wife, Eula Arrington Cauble of Ranger; children, Gwendy Kelton of Gainesville, Debra Plumlee of Saratoga, Keeven Cauble of Odessa; step-children, Jackie Arrington and wife Shelby of Cisco and Lana Arrington of Austin; a brother, Jim Cauble of Marble Falls; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

B.B. ‘Sam’ Townson
CROSS PLAINS- B.B. “Sam” Townson, 80, of Cross Plains died Wedenesday, November 28, 2007 in Early.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2007 at First Baptist Church with Ronnie B. White officiating. Burial followed in the Sabanno Cemetery in Eastland County, Texas. Higginbotham Funeral Home of Cross Plains was in charge of the arrangements.
He was born June 17, 1927 in Leroy, Texas to Gervaise and Gladys (Casey) Townson. He married Jenny Taylor on March 1, 1947 in Waco, Texas. She preceded him in death on August 25, 2001. He married Louise Lott on December 19, 2002 in Ruidoso, NM. He served in the United States Army and was a member of First Baptist Church. “Sam” as he was known enjoyed playing dominoes with the husbands of the quilting ladies, and visiting with friends. He retired from American Airlines as a ramp supervisor.
Survivors are his wife, Louise Townson of Cross Plains; daughter, Barbara Dill and husband Ricky of Mansfield; son, Ronny Townson of Arlington; six grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

William N. Coe, Jr.
William N. Coe, Jr. was born February 15, 1924 in Etowah County, Alabama. He passed away November 26, 2007 in Clyde, Texas.
Graveside services to be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007 in Edgewood Cemetery in Lancaster with Rev. Larry Pool officiating. Byrum Funeral Home of Lancaster in charge of arrangements.
He was a resident of Texas for majority of his life. He served in WW II as a medic/ambulance driver. He received the following recognitions: European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal AR 600-68.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William N. and Vera Knox Coe; a son, Michael Coe; and 3 sisters.
Survived by a daughter, Brenda Mashburn and husband, Lloyd of Clyde; son, Larry Coe and wife, Paula of Abilene; mother of his children and grandmother of his grandchildren, Vera Coe; brother, Earl Coe and wife, Barbara of Minden, LA; grandchildren, Paloma Coe of Purdom, Rhonda Mashburn of Ft. Kent King Stephenson
Kent King Stephenson, 49, of Eula, died Sunday, November 25, 2007 at his residence.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2007 at the Eula Baptist Church in Eula with Jim Carraway and Larry Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Eula Cemetery. Bailey Funeral Home of Clyde in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Kent was born January 6, 1958 in Abilene, Texas to Walter (Putt) and Oleta (King) Stephenson. He was a graduate of Eula High School. Kent was an oilfield worker for Smith Pipe and Supply. He was previously employed at Bandera Drilling. He was a lifelong resident of Eula and a member of the Eula Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Brandon Stephenson and wife Christina of Abilene, Kenny Stephenson and wife Robyn of Eula and Bo Preston Stephenson Walker of Abilene; his mother Oleta Stephenson of Abilene; one brother, Kyle Stephenson and wife Lorna of Lubbock; one granddaughter, Callie Lynn Stephenson; one grandson, Micah Stephenson and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Darin Reeves
CLYDE- Darin Reeves, 20, died Friday, November 23, 2007.
Services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Burial followed in the Albany Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Arvin H. Thornton
Arvin H. Thornton, 59, died Thursday, November 15, 2007 at his residence.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 2, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the residence of Peggy Smith, 565 C.R. 152 in Hamby. Arrangements by Community Memorial Funeral Home 1443 N. 2nd St.
He was born in Baird, Texas on July 9, 1948. He was the son of Juanita (Holloway) and Leroy Thornton. He was a carpenter by trade and was involved with the Farmer’s Market. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Marvin; and sister, Golda Dennis.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Thornton O’Keeffe of Abilene; a sister, Anne Harrison of Abilene; and several nieces and nephews.

Jane Eidson
EASTLAND- Jane W. Eidson, age 84, of Abilene formerly of Eastland died Friday, November 23, 2007 in Abilene.
Visitation was Sunday 6-8 PM at Edwards Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held at 2 PM Monday, November 26, 2007 in the First Christian Church with Jim Wright officiating. Burial followed in Eastland City Cemetery.
Born December 31, 1922 in Brownwood to Frank and Cora [Roundtree} Hardin. She attended Brownwood High School and Texas Women’s University in Denton. She married James Eidson on June 26, 1942 in Brownwood, he preceded her in death in 1993. They lived in Brownwood and Breckenridge for a short time before moving to Eastland in 1950. She worked for the B & W Clinic as office manager from 1960 to 1980 and was active in the First Christian Church. She enjoyed playing Bridge, reading was a excellent cook. She was compassionate and considerate and would spend time checking on the welfare of others.
She is survived by daughters; Lynda and Harold Burford of Conroe Texas, Jean Ann Lee of Brownwood; son and daughter in law, James and Rebecca Eidson of Abilene Texas; sister Jean Hardin of Abilene; grandchildren and spouses, Lauren and Mike Pasket of Montgomery Tx, Julie and Stephen Carrell of Bedias Tx.,Scott and Monika Lee of Dallas, Sam and Ali Eidson of Abilene Tx; 4 great grandchildren, Katie and Tyler Case, Alea and Jackson Carrell; long lost cousin, Mona Bromley of Lubbock; Excellent and loving caregivers, Sandy Flores and Jenifer McMinn.

June Hope Walker
PLANO- A loving mother, devoted grandmother and cherished friend, June Hope Walker, was born May 18, 1939 in Cisco, Texas and passed away on November 21, 2007 in Plano, Texas.
She was preceeded in death by her parents, William Audrey and Helen Ezzell.
She is survived by her children, Lee Rode Walker and wife Rhonda, Tracy Lynn Bell and husband Richard, Christopher Allan Walker; grandchildren, Victoria Elizabeth Bell, William Rode Walker, Austen Lee Walker and Kendale Ray Walker; special friends, Ethel Neilson and Jim Williams and cousins Jan and Ken Zebro; also many others who knew and loved her.
She graduated from Abilene High School in 1957 and was a retired professional interior decorator and loyal member of the Red Hat Society of Lancaster, Texas.

Vivian Lee Crenshaw Simpson
RANGER--Vivian Lee Crenshaw Simpson, 89, passed away at her home in Ft. Worth after a short battle with leukemia.
Viewing will be Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 25, 2007 in the Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
She was born on August 12, 1918 in Carrollton, Texas. She married Wayne Ebbie Simpson in 1949 in San Antonio, Texas. She was a long time resident of Ranger and worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 20 years before retiring. She loved her family and home and took great joy in caring for them. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ranger and a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Wayne.
She is survived by her son LTC. Larry L. Simpson and wife, Pam, and her grandchildren Robert and Meggan of Ft. Worth, Texas.

Walter Dean Toler
Walter Dean Toler, 77, of Cisco went to live with Jesus on Friday, November 16, 2007. 
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 18, 2007 at the First Baptist Church officiated by Reverend Bruce Stovall, assisted by Reverend Craig Curry.  Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Kimbrough Funeral Home.
  Dean was born in Marion City, Illinois on November 20, 19 29 to Henry and Bernice (Baker) Toler and was born again at the age of 16.  He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  He married Wanda Nell Willett on March 3, 19 62 in Odessa, Texas. He owned and operated Toler Automotive in Cisco and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda of Cisco; daughter Beverly Patterson and husband Dale of Emory, Texas; son, Monty Toler and wife Kim and  grandsons, Justin Toler, Stephen Toler and Bradley Toler all of Cisco; sisters, Shirley Brown of Port Arthur, Texas, Nelda Wyatt of Salem, Illinois; and brother, Herbert Toler of Kinmundy, Illinois.

 Patricia Ann ‘Pat’ Morgan
Patricia Ann (Pat) Morgan, 71, of Abilene passed away at Hendrick Medical Center on Friday, November 16, 2007 . 
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Monday, November 19, 2007 at Kimbrough Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Reverend Craig Curry and eulogy by Terry Edwards.  Private burial was in the West End Cemetery in Stephenville under the direction of Kimbrough Funeral Home.
  Pat was born in Stephenville, Texas on May 8, 1936 to Marshall and Elna Edith (Story) Miniard.
She graduated from Texas  Christian University  where she received her BSN degree.  As a registered nurse she was employed by Ranger Junior College, DeLeon Hospital and worked in  Home Health Care.  She was a member of the Baptist church.
  Survivors include, daughters, Keann Burgess and husband Chuck of Cisco, Becky Lee and husband Kinney and Crissa Frishe and husband Patrick all of Breckenridge; sisters, Marilyn Larimore and husband Jim of Stephenville, Jeanette Wallace; grandchildren, McKenna Burgess, Walker Burgess, Laurin Lee, Kelsie Lee, Alan Lee, Cassie Frishe, Jaydon Frishe; and great grandchild, Joshua Gutierrez.

Ricky Joe Frazier
Hartland, Wis.-- Ricky J. Frazier, age 53, passed away Friday, November 16, 2007.
A Texas native, Ricky was born in Tyler, Texas and lived in Cisco, Texas until 12 years ago when he was forced to become a “cheese head.”
He is survived by his permanent fiancee’ Shelly Ingalls; his children, Donnie Frazier of Abilene, TX, Joleena “Jo Jo” Frazier of Abilene, TX and Brianna “Bri Bri” (Harley) Ethridge of Richland Springs, TX. He was the loving Papaw to Autumn Dawn, Braxton, Jaylen and Reagan.
Local services were held on Monday, November 19, 2007.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until the time of Remembrance at 7:00 pm. Burial services were held on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at 2:00 pm at Oakwood Cemetery in Cisco, TX under the direction of Summer-Chambers Funeral Home.

Cisco- Paul Ray Judia, age 52, formerly of Cisco, passed away on November 15, 2007 at University Hospital in Lubbock. Cremation services were held under the direction of the Summers-Chambers Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held in Galveston at a later date.
Paul Ray was born February 19, 1955, in Greenville, Mississippi, to Frank and Connie. He was raised in Cisco by his grandfather and grandmother Mr. and Mrs. Ray Judia. He was a graduate of Cisco High School and the Dallas Institute - College of Mortuary Science. 
Paul Ray was a former mortician in League City, Texas. He was also the owner of the First Aid Supply Co. in Galveston, Texas.
  He was preceded in death by his father Frank Judia of Signal Mountain, Tennessee and his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Ray Judia of Cisco.
He is survived by his wife, Leslie Judia of Pearland, TX; his son, Paul Ray Judia, Jr. of Austin, TX; his mother Connie Enbey of Bayou Vista, TX; his brothers David Judia of Ellijay, Georgia and Glenn Judia of Signal Mountain, Tennessee; his sisters Susan Widmer of Bayou Vista, TX and Schel Heybenburg of West Land, Michigan; and his step-mother Betty Judia of Signal Mountain, Tennessee.

Dortha Watkins
Dortha Watkins, 87, of Coleman, Texas passed away on Friday, November 9, 2007 at Coleman County Medical Center in Coleman, Texas.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM, Monday, November 12, 2007 at Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jeff Miller officiating. Burial was in the Rising Star Cemetery in Rising Star, Texas with Higginbotham Funeral Home of Rising Star in charge. 
Dortha was born on March 18, 1920 in Rising Star, Texas to Virgil Carl and Eula Belle Mayfield-Alford. She married Julius Edward Watkins on June 22, 1946 in Rising Star, Texas. 
She is survived by her husband, Edward Watkins of Coleman; daughter, Julia Kathryn Weise of Coleman; sister, Johnnie Yancy of Tyler; 2 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother.

Gene Stephens
Gene Stephens, 75, formerly of Merkel, died Thursday, November 8, 2007 at a local hospital.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, November 12, 2007 at Merkel First Baptist Church with Revs. Jimmy Griffith and Art Switzer officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.
Gene was born December 29, 1931 in Watt, McLennan County, the oldest son of Samuel Burl and Viola Nadine Leslley Stephens. He married Nadine Casey on September 10, 1977 in Merkel. Gene served our country in the Army during World War II, then worked 48 years as a truck driver and carpenter. His passion in life was his music, playing his fiddle and giving lessons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mildred Ann Stephens; and a brother, Robert Burl Stephens.
Survivors include his wife, Nadine Stephens of Brownwood; a daughter, Lisa Johnson and husband David of Eastland; a son, Warren “Bubba” Stephens and wife Leah of Hawley; a granddaughter, Tracee Blankinship and husband Paul of Norman, OK; two great-granddaughters, Angel and Dylan Blankinship of Norman, OK; a step-son, Larry Snell of Las Vegas, NV; a stepgranddaughter, Alicia Logan; and a step-great-grandson, Christopher Logan both of Merced, CA.

Hazel Koonce
DESDEMONA- Hazel Koonce, 79, died Friday, November 9, 2007.

Wilma Ruth James
Wilma Ruth James, 80, passed away Friday November 9, 2007.
Services were held Monday, November 12 in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 P.M. Private family viewing was Sunday afternoon. Arrangements by Edwards Funeral Home in Ranger.
Wilma was a creative, intelligent and adventurous person. She loved to travel and had a green thumb when it came to gardening. She married Charles James on November 30, 1946 in Conroe, Tx. They lived in Houston for a while before moving to Ranger in 1976. She was a member of Mensa and loved dogs, so much so it was doubted that she ever met a dog she didn’t like. Wilma was also very talented at cooking. She entered and won many contests in Ranger and was even published in a Taste of Home book and featured in the Abilene Reporter News. Wilma deeply loved her family and will be missed greatly.
Survivors include, her husband Charles; children, Loretta Brister, Charles James, Michael James, Judy James, Martin Burgess, Charles Burgess, and Valerie Burgess; 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Marvin Clarence Dorsett
Marvin Clarence Dorsett was born April 30, 1912 in Fort Worth, Texas. He died November 11, 2007 in the Carillon House, Lubbock, Texas.
Mr. Dorsett was a longtime Lubbock resident and retired as a mail carrier on April 30, 1972.
He served his country during WW II as a Sergeant First Class in the Army Air Corps while stationed in Alaska.
He served his Lord and Savior as a faithful deacon for many years. He was ordained in the West End Baptist Church of Lubbock, Texas (1954).
Marvin as a youth recalled walking with his family from Lubbock to Las Cruces, N.M. in the early twenties. Carriage was by wagon and it took them thirty-two days. He was also fond of telling how he homesteaded a section of land north of Roswell, NM on the Pecos River. His father Jesse Levi Dorsett and his brother Marson also claimed a section of land and homesteaded in the same area.
He met his wife Willie Faye Bennett in Gorman, Texas through a pen pal feature of the Gorman Progress newspaper. She became his wife December 14, 1934 and was his life long companion until she died May 14, 1990.
Mr. Dorsett was honored at his grave site at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2007, with services conducted by his son-in-law Rev. Don Franklin of Lubbock. Interment by Higginbotham Funeral Home of Gorman.

Fred E. Williams
Fred E. Williams of Eastland died November 5, 2007.
He was born March 31, 1937 in Gunsight.
Fred lived in Eastland all of his life. He attended and graduated from Eastland High School. Fred also served 4 years in the United States Air Force.
He worked for Texas Electric for 35 years. Fred was the son of Maco and Florina Williams.
He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Jackie Wilson and Cuva Gurth.
Fred is survived by his wife, Linda Williams; two daughters, Deborah Abbott and Lori Russell, both of Alvarado, TX.; two grandchildren, Kyle Russell and Dana Abbott of Alvarado; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Amalia B. Eakin
Memorial services for Mrs. Amalia B. Eakin, 74, will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Eakin died on Sunday, November 11, 2007 at Evangeline Oaks Nursing Home in Carencro.
Mourning her departure are: her two daughters, Anolia V. Eakin Torrans (Chris) of Lafayette and Maria Gladys Jackson-Murley (Michael Murley)
of Salina, TX; three grandchildren, Austin Torrans, Bethany Torrans and Noah Cole; two sisters, Cecille Young and Zenaida Vasquez, both of Jacksonville, N.C.; and other immediate family residing in the Phillipines.
Mrs. Eakin was preceded in death by her husband James V. Eakin.

Jack Eddleman
 FORT WORTH -- Jack Eddleman went to be with Jesus on Monday, November 12, 2007.
       Funeral was held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 16, 2007 at Fielder Road Baptist Church in Arlington. Interment: 4 p.m. in Mount Zion Cemetery, Caddo. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Moore Funeral Home.
       Jack was born to Frank and Lela Eddleman on Jan. 18, 1941, in Whitney. He moved to the family ranch in Ranger when he was 5 years old. Jack graduated in 1959 from Breckenridge High School, where he met his wife of 48 years, Mary Lou Tiarks. They married and moved to Fort Worth where he attended UTA nearby. He was a successful salesman and real estate investor.
       Jack was a dedicated man whose greatest joys were God, his love for his family, friends, food, watching westerns, coin collecting and spending time at the ranch with his family. He has been given a higher calling to join the Lord in His Kingdom. He brought love, smiles and joy to all of our lives. He will be loved and missed by all of us.
       He was preceded in death by his mother and father, and brother, Don Eddleman.
       Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Eddleman; children, Stephen Lee Eddleman and daughter-in-law, Debbie Eddleman, Larry Glenn Eddleman and daughter-in-law, Tiffany Eddleman, Jacqueline Kay Eddleman-Browning and Robert Wayne Eddleman and daughter-in-law, Tanya Eddleman; and grandchildren, Lance Glenn Eddleman, Dresden Elizabeth Eddleman, Forrest Hunter Browning and Sierra Jordan Browning.

Dessie Juanita Ramseur
GORMAN- Dessie Juanita Ramseur, 87, died Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at a Stephenville Nursing Home.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 16, 2007 at Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel in Gorman with Durward Webb officiating. Burial followed at East End Cemetery in Lingleville.
Mrs. Ramseur was born in Lingleville on March 9, 1920 to Charles Allen, Sr. and Annie Pearl Bays Allen. She married Ralph Ramseur in 1948 in Fort Worth. Mrs. Ramseur had been the head dietician at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, a licensed vocational nurse and a school teacher. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She lived in the Bays Community near Lingleville from 1958 to 2002, since then she had been in a nursing facility.
Survivors include one sister, Mary Tarver of Gorman; one brother, Charles Allen of Stephenville; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ralph and one sister, Elva Loreta Kelley.

Carl Petree
Carl Petree, 43, of Broken Bow, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2007, at Broken Bow.
He was born June 6, 1964, in Gorman, TX, the son of W. Leo Petree and Margaret Ann Newman.
      Carl was employed with the Coca Cola Co. in Idabel as a Service Technician. He was of the Baptist faith. Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family and friends.
      He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Perry and one son, Brandon Lee Petree.
      Carl leaves to cherish his memory his father, W. Leo Petree, Sisco, TX; three daughters, Theresa Nelson, Temple, TX, Tonya Morgan, Stephenville, TX; Cara Petree, Broken Bow, OK; three sisters, Lori Ann Petree, Texarkana, TX, Juanita Dolores Bernel, Denver City, TX, Tina Carol Clement, Ector, TX; two granddaughters, Raelynn Nelson, Temple, TX, Averion Taylor, Broken Bow, OK; several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Granvel Thomas Nabors
A graveside Memorial service will be held at the Eastland Cemetery, in memory of Granvel T. Nabors, on November 23, 2007 at 3 p.m. Friends are invited to attend.
Granvel passed away August 5, 2007 in Ft. Collins, Colo. where he had made his home for the last 10 years. He was the son of Thomas Frank and Lenora Nabors...He was born in Big Springs, TX on January 20, 1930 and spent most of his early years in Olden, Tx. He attended school and played Varsity football, Basketball and Track at Olden High School. He spent his early years working on Pipeline Construction and for Fish Engineer Co. in Aztec, NM. and in 1957 he went to work for El Paso Natural Gas Co. in Ignacio, Colo. He worked for them for 25 years where he and his family lived in Durango, CO.
He was the father of three children, Connie Jo Nabors Skidmore, Gary Dwayne Nabors, and David Randall Nabors; 11 grandchildren, 2 deceased; and 6 great-grandchildren.
He will be missed by his family who loved him.

Helen L. Sikes
EASTLAND--Helen L. Sikes, 89, of Eastland, passed away Thursday morning, November 15, 2007 at her residence with her loving daughter at her side.
The family will receive friends at Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland on Sunday, November 18 from noon until 4:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. Monday, November 19 at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Eastland City Cemetery.
Mrs. Sikes was born on September 4, 1918 in Nedelton (Lee County) Mississippi to J.K. and Georgia Mae (Shackelford) Morgan. She married Edward LeRoy “Red” Sikes. They moved to Eastland in 1952, where she was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. She worked with Dub Hoffmann, at Poe Floral in Eastland, for many years. Her husband preceded her in death on February 6, 1986. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Edilee Sikes on February 6, 1971.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Georgianne Adams & D.Thomas Thompson of Rifle, CO; a brother, William K. Morgan of Corpus Christi, TX; 3 nieces and 2 nephews.

Darlene Norris
EASTLAND- Darlene Norris, age 43, passed away on Monday, November 12, 2007 in Abilene after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at Simpson Cemetery. Pastor Chad Gosnell of the Country Cowboy Church officiated the services. Services were held under the direction of the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home.
Adrian Darlene Gonce was born in Hobbs, New Mexico on June 1, 1964 to Adren Gonce and Verta (Roberts) Gonce. She attended and graduated from Eastland High School. On August 11, 1990, she married Greg Norris in a garden ceremony at the Norris home on Mulberry Street in Eastland. The couple was blessed with over 17 years of matrimony.
Darlene was a Wal-Mart Associate working in the Bakery Department. For over 17 years, Darlene has owned and helped run the Lake Leon Firework Stand on Hwy 2214.
She and Greg attended and taught bible study at the Country Cowboy Church in Eastland.
She is survived by her parents Adren and Verta Gonce of Eastland; husband Greg Norris, of Eastland; her son and daughter-in-law Chris and Heather McCormick of Eastland; her sons, Greg McCormick and Ryan McCormick of Eastland; her daughter, Ashlee Norris of Eastland; her brother, Clayton Gonce of Florida; her sister, Donna Gonce of Eastland; and several nieces, nephews and cousins in the surrounding areas.
Pallbearers serving were sons, Chris, Greg, and Ryan McCormick, her nephew, Kevin Gonce, and family friends, Billy Tedford and David Hudson.
Memorial donations in Mrs. Norris’ name may be made to the United Way Cancer Services of Abilene or the Country Cowboy Church, PO Box 665, Eastland, Texas 76448.

Billy Jennings
Billy Jennings, 79, died Monday, November 5, 2007, at an Abilene hospital.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 8, 2007 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Jeffrey Fenwick officiating. Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. in Pioneer Cemetery in Eastland County, directed by Lawrence-Adams Funeral Home.
He was born August 20, 1928 in Berchan. He was the son of the late Bill and Opal (Taylor) Jennings. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. Billy moved to Anson in 1992 where he was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and was a retired truck driver.
Billy was preceded in death by a son (Tillman Floyd Allen) and a sister.
Survivors include one son, Jessie Ray Allen of Brownwood; three daughters, Sherry Gann and husband, Larry of Merkel, Charlotte Ferguson, Brenda Bartlett and husband, Jerry, all of Abilene; one sister, Darlene Tomlinson of Perry, Florida; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Elmer Louis Simmons
EASTLAND- Elmer Louis Simmons, age 73, passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at Eastland Memorial Hospital. 
Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at the Eastland City Cemetery. Pastor Jim Andrews of the Bethel Baptist Church officiated the services. Services were held under the direction of the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home.
Louis was born in Eastland County on July 2, 1934. His parents were Frank Simmons and Winnie Mae Robinson Simmons. He married Jacquelin Swindle on May 22, 1975. The couple was blessed with over 32 years of matrimony. Louis was a retired truck driver and a Baptist who believed in and enjoyed hard work.
Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Bob, Don and Connie Simmons and his sisters; Barbara Simmons and Laverne Rains.
He is survived by his wife Jackie, of Eastland; his children Billy Jack Hume and Ronald Owen Hume, Jr. both of Midland, Chris Ann Simmons and Ricky Dale Simmons both of Ft. Worth, Sharron Bulgron of Round Rock, Angie Lloyd and Elmer Louis Simmons, Jr. both of Abilene; and his sister Estelle Biggs and his brother Jim Simmons both of Eastland.
Honorary pall bearers serving were his nephews, Jack, Gary, Terry, Billy, Bobby, and Rodney Simmons.

Burl Gene Wright
EASTLAND- Burl Gene Wright, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2007.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. at Higginbotham Funeral Home, Gorman. Burial was in the Gorman Cemetery.
Burl Gene was born January 19, 1924 to James Edward and Lillie Hall Wright. He was the last of nine children. A World War II veteran, he joined the Navy in 1944 and served aboard the USS Sperry specializing in interior communications. After discharge from the Navy, he played in country western bands and earned his pilot’s license. He and his mother Gabe ran the Massey-Ferguson dealership in Gorman for several years. In 1954, Gene left the Gorman area and moved to Arlington, TX where he went to work for General Motors. He retired in 1977 and began retirement living on Lake Leon.
Survivors are his wife of 61 years, Virginia; two children, Sherry Wright Massey of Watauga, TX and Rodney Gene Wright of Flower Mound, TX; three grandsons, Troy Massey and wife, Stacie of Austin, TX, Brian Massey and wife Heather of Keller, TX and Trenton Wright of College Station, TX.; great-grandchildren, Cody, Emily, Claire, Jeannette, Grace, and Leigha Massey.

Helen Hess
Helen Hess, 85, passed away Tuesday November 6, 2007 in Abilene.
Graveside services were held Thursday, November 8, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. in Lubbock, Tx at Resthaven Funeral Home. Arrangements by Edwards Funeral Home in Ranger.

 Oleta Lucille Fergason
      Funeral services for Oleta Fergason, 84, of Slaton and formerly of Rising Star were  10 AM Thursday, November 1, 2007 in Englunds Chapel. Interment was in Rising Star Cemetery, Rising Star, TX. Arrangements are under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service.
      Mrs. Fergason was born August 25, 1923 in Lueders. Oleta attended school in Lueders and the Sligo community school. She married Dave Fergason on July 3, 1941 in Leuders. They previously lived in Hobbs, NM, Denver City , Cross Plains, Brownfield, Lueders, and Rising Star before moving to Slaton in May 2007. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.
Oleta was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Orval Frazier and Wesley Frazier and 2 sisters; Ethel Taylor and Annie Kitchens.
      Her survivors include her husband, Dave, daughters; Ruby Bouziden of Alva, OK, Jenny Walton of Slaton, and Wilma Williams of Bridgeport, TX,  sons; David Fergason and Carlton Fergason both of Rising Star and Gaylon Fergason of Boisser City, LA, brother; Alvie Joe Frazier of Stamford, TX 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Richard D. Moon
Richard D. Moon, 56, passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2007. His services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at Friendship Baptist Church with Reverend Stovall and Reverend Don Clevenger officiating. Burial was to follow in the Lueders Cemetery under the direction of Godfrey-Neese Funeral Home.
Richard was born May 23, 1951 in Baird, TEXAS. He married Alice Lorene Carlile in Albany, Tex on May 6, 1994. Richard worked in the oilfield most of his life and was a driller. He was a Baptist.
Richard is survived by his wife, Alice Moon of Albany; his children, Julie DeAnn Arnold of Odessa, Melissa Lynn Hobbs of Albany, Cynthia Louise Smith of Albany, Robyn Rnee Shaffer of Moran, Robert Howard Moon of Moran, Michelle Lorene Hobbs of Abilene, Moranda Elaine Lee of Albany and Quinton Wayne Lee of Albany; one brother, Mike Moon of Kermit; one sister, Bonnie Olson of San Angelo and 12 grandchildren.

Arlee Wetsel
Arlee Wetsel, age 89, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2007 in Abilene due to complications from emphysema.
Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 5, 2007, at the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Craig Curry of the First Baptist Church in Cisco will officiate the services. Interment with full military honors was to follow in Eastland Cemetery.
Arlee was born in Wingate, Texas, on November 15, 1917. His parents were Hattie Emfinger and Joe Wetwel of Wingate.
He is survived by his two loving children, Tracee Lynn Wetsel of Abilene and Dr. Rick Arlee Westel of Pearland, Texas; his granddaughter, Richelle Ann Wetsel; and daughter-in-law Kathleen Ann Wetsel of Pearland, Texas; his sister, Ruth Stovall of San Angelo; and grothers, Troy Wetsel of Eagle Mountain Lake, Junior Wetsel of Ballinger and Coy Wetsel of Cordal, Georgia. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, including Charles Wetsel of Cisco.
Arlee was a surviving member of the United States Army’s famous Lost Battalion, which survived 42 months of “hell” as prisoners of the Chinese during World War II. The 2nd Batallian, 131st Field Artillery was only a few days out of Pearl Harbor before it was bombed on December 7, 1941; the batallion was subsequently captured on the island of Java after it was overrun by the Japanese army. After their capture, nothing was heard from the Battalion for over three years. Member of the Batallion remained extremely close friends for the remainder of their lives. Arlee spoke of his fellow POWs as members of his family. The 2nd Battalion, 131st F.A., 36th Infantry Division i the “Most Decorated Unit” in Texas.

“Jackie” Neal, age 81, passed away Friday, November 2, 2007 in the Clyde Nursing Center.
