Raley ‘Ray’ Othel Ishmael
Ray was a loving son, brother, father and grandfather. Ray was born June 16, 1940 to William Homer and Sadie Inez Ishmael.
Ray died Friday, December 28, 2007 at The Hospice Center in Fort Worth, TX.
He is survived by his children, William Ishmael of Payne Springs, TX, Tina Stillwagon of Ft. Worth, TX, David Ishmael of Eastland, TX, Sadie and Tim Moldenhaue of Alvarado, TX, Dean and Darlene Ishmael of Charlotte, S.C., Jackie and Julie Ishmael of Cisco, TX., Sandra Ishmael of Dallas, TX.; his mother, Sadie Inez Ishmael; brothers and sisters, Nancy Taylor of Eastland, TX., RoseMary and Richard Dennis of Ranger, TX, David and Claudia of Frost, TX, Bessie and James Ensley of Sawyer, OK., Barbara and Steve Ballew of Balch Springs, TX, Tommy and Geleta Ishmael of Frisco, TX, James Ishmael of Mabank, TX, Kathey and Jackie Hutcheson of Eastland, TX., Linda and Tommy Trlica of Galveston, TX, Ricky and Rhonda Ishmael of Oak Point, TX, and Nina and Ken Hudson of Eastland, TX.; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Homer Ishmael; sister, Sadie Ishmael; and brother, Arnold Ishmael.
The memorial to celebrate Ray’s life was held Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at Log Cabin, TX. from 2-5 p.m.
Ray was loved by many and will be missed dearly.
Milton Fuchs
Milton Emmitt Fuchs, age 88, formerly of Cisco, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2007 in an Abilene care facility.
A memorial service will be held at the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home Chapel in Eastland at a later date.
Milton was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Frances (Ross) Fuchs, in July of 2007.
Memorials in Mr. Fuch’s name may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
Allan Striegler
STEPHENVILLE- Allan Striegler, 65, of Stephenville died Saturday, December 29, 2007 at a local hospital.
Memorial services were held at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2008 at the Stephenville Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Jeff Burnett and Rev. Dean Reed officiating.
Allan was born on August 22, 1942 in San Angelo to the late Howard and Virginia Ayers Striegler. He married Merrill Burnett on March 4, 1978. Allan was a member of First United Methodist Church and has resided in Stephenville most of his life. Allan served in the Texas National Guard. He was a Rancher and an Investor.
Survivors include his wife, Merrill Striegler of Stephenville; brother, John Striegler of Houston; nephews, Steven Striegler, Jonathan Striegler, Spencer Striegler, and Thomas Striegler. He is also survived by Lynn Salyer, Eddie Salyer, Christine Fine, Aleisha Jenness, Patrick Salyer, Shayla Fine and Jordan Salyer.

Donnie Collins Rone
EASTLAND - Donnie (Collins) Rone, age 89, of Carbon, passed away on December 27,2007.
Funeral services were held at 3 PM on Sunday, December 30, 2007 at the Bear Springs Cemetery. Doug Wintermute officiated the services. Visitation was held Saturday evening at the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home.
Donnie Collins was born on March 2, 1918 in Mobeetie, Texas to Lafoy L. Collins and Elizabeth (Lloyd) Collins. She grew up in Mobeetie, Texas near Amarillo and later moved with her family to Carbon. She married Olen Byrum, known by friends as “O.B”, Rone on December 17, 1938 in Mobeetie. The couple were blessed with two daughters, Mittie and Mary.
Donnie was proud to be a homemaker. O.B. and Donnie farmed and ranched in Eastland County. She was a member of the former First Methodist Church in Carbon and a current member of the First United Methodist Church in Eastland.
Donnie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of nearly 41 years, O.B. Rone; her brothers, Sam, Lafloy, Lawrence, and Dean; her sisters, Angie, Frankie, and Johnnie; and her son-in-law, Leonard Bledsoe.
She is survived by her daughters, Mittie Bledsoe of Carbon and Mary Donham and husband James of Gorman, her sister, Jane Seitz of Mobeetie, and 5 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made in Donnie’s name to the Bear Springs Cemetery Association. Services were held under the direction of the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home.
Hazel Lucille McDonald
Hazel Lucille McDonald, 89, of Garner passed away Sunday December 23, 2007 at Veranda Place in Weatherford.
She was born August 31, 1918 in Garner, where she was a lifelong resident. She attended Garner schools. She married Albert McDonald on August 29, 1936 in Parker County. Hazel was a member of First Baptist Church of Garner, loved to sew, quilt and embroidery. She was a dedicated homemaker, loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband on July 21, 1976, her parents and two brothers.
Survivors include sons, James McDonald and wife Donna of Ranger and Bill McDonald and wife Nancy of Amarillo; daughter, Kathy Leatherman and husband Royce of Garner; seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren
Graveside service for Hazel was held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 27, 2007 in Memory Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Brian Leatherman officiating. Burial followed in Memory Gardens under the direction of Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel in Weatherford. Visitation was from 6-8 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home.
Rudolph ‘RJ’ Wartberg
Rudolph (RJ) Wartberg of Ranger, formerly of New Orleans, LA. went to be with the Lord Thursday, December 27, 2007.
RJ was born March 5, 1948 to Julius Wartberg and Adeline Raimer in New Orleans. He came to Ranger two years ago after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, destroying most of his possessions. Fearing another hurricane could wipe out the city, he decided to remain in Ranger.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Fridge and his grandsons, Jack and Austin Fridge of Denham Springs, LA.; son, Joey Wartberg of Ranger; daughter, Charlotte Wartberg of Sylmar, Calif.; brothers, George Wartberg and wife, Cathy of Metarie, LA., Dennis Wartberg and wife, Carol; sister, Judy Wartberg of Hammond, LA.; numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by both parents; and his brothers, Lloyd, Gerald, Wayne and Kevin.
A memorial service will be held at The Second Baptist Church of Ranger, January 23, 2008 at 1 p.m. Brother Perrella presiding. RJ’s ashes will be returned to New Orleans to be scattered at Lake Ponchatrain.
J.T. Myers
J.T. Myers, 68, of Cross Plains, died Friday, December 28, 2007 in Abilene.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 31, 2007 at the Higginbotham Chapel, Pastor Ronnie B. White officiating. Burial followed in the New Cross Plains Cemetery in Cross Plains.
Mr. Myers was born on September 13, 1939 to Dee and Ola Mae (Walker) Myers in Snyder, Texas. He graduated from Snyder High School and attended Draughons Business College then went on to graduate from SMU School of Banking. He served in the United States Army. He married Donna Garlitz on November 26, 1959 in Cross Cut. He retired from the banking industry as an Exec Vice President and Loan Officer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cross Plains.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Myers of Cross Plains; son, Lynn Myers and wife Dionicia of Midland; brother, W.D. Myers and wife, Linda of Snyder; granddaughter, Vivian Myers of Midland; five nieces and one nephew.
Duane Taylor
RANGER- Duane Taylor, 54, of Ranger passed away on Wednesday December 26, 2007 in a Fort Worth hospital.
Graveside services were held at 2 PM Saturday, December 29, 2007 in Evergreen Cemetery with Deacon Ruben Castaneda officiating. Burial followed under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Ranger, Texas.
Duane was born on September 22, 1953 in Ranger Texas to William D. and Jewel Aline (Gordon) Taylor. He graduated from high school in Graham, and completed cosmetology school in 1988. He owned and operated a hair salon out of his home for many years. He also worked for Outlaw’s as a clerk. Duane was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church.
Duane is survived by a brother, Willard Taylor of Saginaw, Texas; two sisters Nanah Braly of Amarillo and Dee Nell Madison of Fort Worth. Special friend Clayton Smith and his son Cody. Numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
J.T. Myers
J.T. Myers, age 68, of Cross Plains, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2007 in Abilene.

Jon Hardwick
BAIRD-Jon Hardwick, age 75, of Baird, Texas, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2007 at his home.
Services were to be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008 in the First United Methodist Church of Baird with Rev. Pamala Vannow officiating, assisted by Rev. Sandra Keith. Interment was to follow at Ross Cemeter Annex. Services are under the direction of Parker Funeral Home in Baird, Texas. A visitation was held at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 1, 2008 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
Jon was born in Baird, Texas, on January 15, 1932 to Eastman and Nell Cox Hardwick. He had lived all his life in Baird, where he graduated from Baird High School and later, in 1952, from West Texas State College in Canyon, Texas. In November of 1957, Jon married Betty Cunningham in Baird. She preceded him in death in June of 2000.
Jon had been a Certified Public Accountant since 1960, and was a lifetime member of the American Institute of C.P.A.’s. He was a former Baird Volunteer fireman and was also a member of the Chickasaw Nation Society.
The current mayor of the City of Baird, Jon was elected to the office in June of 1996. He also served as the Callahan County Democratic Chairman for many years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Baird.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Lydia Barnard and husband Gary of Austin, Texas, and Crecia Reynolds and hsuband Jim of Midland, Texas; 2 sisters, Claire Spaulding of Baird, Texas, and Mary Gafford of Abilene, Texas; 3 grandchildren, Eastman Barnard and Chris Reynolds of San Marcos, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Fannie E. Carver
Baird--Fannie E. Carver, age 78, passed away Monday, December 31, 2007 at an Abilene hospital.
Services were to be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at the First Baptist Church of Baird, Texas, with Rev. Truman Johnson officiating. Interment was to follow in the Ross Cemtery Annex. Services are under the direction of Parker Funeral Home in Baird.
Fannie was born December 1, 1932 to Alonzo Goodwin Waggoner and Nona Conlee Waggoner in Clyde, Texas. She graduated from Baird High School. She was a retired restaurant manager and owner. Fannie had lived in Baird for the past 30 years, moving here from Merkel, Texas. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Baird.
Survivors include: 2 sons, Butch Smith of Baird, TX; and Jim Smith of Abilene, Texas; 1 adopted daughter, Anelle Free of Lubbock, Texas; 1 brother, Charles Waggoner of Cottonwood, Texas; 2 sisters, Shirley Hughes of Colorado City, TX; and Doris Brown of Baird, Texas; 6 grandchildren, 6 greatgrandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daugher, Michelle Carver.
Helen Ramona Hawk
Helen Ramona Hawk, 80 of Clyde, died Tuesday at a local nursing center.
Services were to be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Clyde with Pastor Bryan Cauthen officiating. Burial was to follow in the Clyde Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home. Visitation was from 6: 00 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hawk was born January 3, 1927 in Electra, Texas to Harmon and Jewel (Newberry) Salmon. She was a graduate of Childress High School and received her L.V.N. degree from Cisco Junior College. She came to Clyde in 1962 from Arlington. As a nurse, she worked at West Texas Medical Center and for ten years at Abilene State School before retiring. She was a homemaker and a devoted mother to seven children. She was active in all of the churches she attended, including Sunday School and Children’s church teacher, Intercessory Prayer Leader, Women’s Ministry Leader, Youth Group teacher, a volunteer at Isaiah 58 Ministry and a longtime member of the church that is currently Kingdom Life Fellowship.
Survivors include seven children, including one son,, John (Endgate) Hawk and wife Kathy of Clyde; six daughers, Cynthia Bell and husband Tony of Chattanagoo, T.N. /recently Florida, Carolyn Burns and Gary Kirby of Grand Prairie, Cheri Glosson and husband Ron of Clyde, and Cristal Roth of Abilene; two brothers, Harold Salmon and wife Margie and Darrel Salmon; 22 grandchildren and 30 greatgrandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, R.H. Salmon.

Justin Lee Hobbs
Justin Lee Hobbs, 29, of Eula, died Saturday at an Amarillo hospital.
Funeral services were to be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Eula First Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Adams officiating. Burial was to follow in the Dudley Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home. Visitation was from 6-7:30 Friday at the Funeral Home.
Justin was born May 11, 1978, in Abilene, Tx. He moved to Avoca, Texas in 1983 and attended Lueders/Avoca I.S.D. He was a very loving person. He worked in the oilfield. His children and family were dear to his heart. He loved adrenalines of snowskiiing/boarding in the mountains, motorcycles and family vacations. He loved the excitement of fishing, hunting and sports. He loved the production of
freehand Painting Art. Freehand art came naturally to him. He drew what he loved. He always had a smile and a laughter that will be greatly remembered. He was a longtime member of the Avoca Baptist Church.
Justin was donor for the Gift of Life. His parents would like to say a special Thank You to the S.I.C.U. at Northwest Texas Healthcare for all the Tender Love and Care that was given to Justin and his family during his Stay.
Survivors include his sons, Brandon Lee Hobbs of Eula and Jesek Ryan Hobbs of Euless; his mother and stepfather, Earl and Kathy Bross of Eula; his sisters, Sheryl Stephens of Eula, Stephanie Moore of Childress, Melissa Bross of Clyde and Stephanie Mackiewicz of Abilene; his brother, John Bross of Potosi; his grandparents, Ann Bross of Eula, Wendall Reeves of Abilene and Nancy Hobbs, also of Abilene and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Justin was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Hobbs of Abilene, grandfather, Bill Hobbs of Abilene, and Pat Lee Bross of Eula and his grandmother, Lois Brown Reeves of Abilene.
Martha Ann Upchurch
Martha Ann Upchurch, 69, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on Friday, Decemer 28, 2007 in a Fort Worth Hospital.
Services were ti be gekd at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 31, 2007 in the First United Methodist Church of Baird with Rev. Sandra Keith officiating. Interment was to follow at 2:30 p.m. in the Santa Anna Cemetery in Santa Anna, Texas. Services are under the direction Parker Funeral Home in Baird, Texas. A visitation was to be held on Sunday evening from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
Martha Ann was born on January 7, 1938 in Baird, Texas to Herman W. “Hernie” and Mary Darby Martin. She attended Baird Schools and graduated as Valedictorian of her class in 1956. She also graduated from Draughn’s Business College in Abilene, Texas. On August 30, 1957, Martha Ann married Wamon Upchurch. The recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. They had lived in Fort Worth, Texas, for the past 40 years.
She is survived by her husband Wamon Upchurch of Fort Worth, Texas; 1 daughter, Ann Shackelford and husband, Roy of Comanche, Texas; 2 sons, Cris Upchurch and wife Dianne, and Mike Upchurch and wife, Yondi, all of Fort Worth, TX.; 1 brother, Robert Martin and wife, Minnie of Menard, Texas; 3 grandchildren, Josh Upchurch of Fort Worth, Texas, and Dalton Shackelford and Devon Shackelford, both of Comanche, Texas.
Martha Ann was preceded in death by her parents and 1 grandson, Derek Shackelford.
Harry Eugene Gardner
Harry Eugene Gardner, 85, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2007 in Waco, Texas.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at the Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Chapel. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until noon.
Harry was born August 29, 1922 to Minnie and Leonard Gardner in Waco, Texas. He graduated from Waco High School in 1940 where he was an All State center for the Waco Tigers, under Coach Paul Tyson. He went on to play football for SMU under Coach Madde Bell until he was called to the U.S. Navy where he was an Underwater Demolition Frogman. He was a member of UDT 13 and cleared the way for the U.S. military forces to enter Iwo Jima and Tokyo Harbor. He was very proud that they didn’t lose a single man during that time. He received the Silver Star for his actions during battle.
After the war he returned home and married Jerry Lou Brown in 1947. He graduated from Baylor University in 1948.
He became involved in the feed and seed business in Ennis and Terrell, Texas, before returning to the Waco area where he and his brother owned Brazos Feed and Supply for many years. After retirement, he and his wife owned Harry’s Backyard Garden Center and Harry’s Service Station in McGregor, Texas.
He was a long-time active member of the First United Methodist Church of McGregor.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jerry Lou Gardner, and married Helen Latimer of Waco in 1992.
Harry will be remembered for his love of family, his wonderful sense of humor, and his dancing ability (even on his walker). He was the best Papaw on Earth!
Harry is survived by his wife, Helen Gardner; his daughters, Betty Johnson and husband, Bob of Ranger, Texas, Genie Allison and husband, Buddy of Rogers, Texas; step-children, Susan Nichols of Carrollton, Texas and Mike Walker of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Kristen Beaird and husband, Brad of Hutto, Texas, Angie Blackwell and husband, Colby of Copperas Cove, Texas, Luke Allison and wife, Bobbi of Groesbeck, Texas, Greg Johnson and fiance’, Amy Russell of Abilene, Texas, Ali DeLukie and husband, Bubba of Ft. Worth, Texas, Abbie Harriman and husband, Josh of Rogers, Texas, Annie Allison of Ft. Worth, Texas, Lou Mandy Allison and fiance’, Allen Bruggman of College Station, Texas; great-grandchildren, Bailey and Emmy Beaird and Kenli and Gunner Allison.

Leona M. Lackey
Leona M. Lackey, 84, of Beaverton, Oregon and formerly of Abilene, died Thursday, December 27, 2007.
Graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2008 at the Pioneer Cemetery near Cross Plains, Texas, directed by Abilene Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lackey was born November 23, 1923, in Pioneer, Texas to Issac and Zola Plumlee. She was reared in Pioneer where she attended elementary school and graduated from Cross Plains High School. Mrs. Lackey lived in Lubbock, Andrews, Odessa, Abilene, Houston and Dallas. During her time in Abilene, she had her own interior decorating business and was an active supporter of the Abilene Symphony. Due to failing health, Leona moved to Beaverton, Oregon to be near family.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Lackey of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Ken Lackey and wife Mary of Lubbock; a daughter, Kathy Thogerson and husband Neil of Portland, Oregon; a sister, Helen Wardroup of Ingram, Texas; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and 2 step-grandchildren.
Mrs. Lackey was preceded in death by her husband, Colvin Lackey; a sister, Juanita Umberson; two brothers, Auline Plumlee and Ray Plumlee.
John M. Kidd
Eastland -- John M. Kidd, age 74, passed away on January 2, 2008.
Funeral services were held at 2 PM, Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Daugherty St. Church of Christ under the direction of the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home. Interment followed at Flatwood Cemetery with Larry Roberts officiating.
John M. Kidd was born December 10, 1933 to Bennie Kidd and Clair (McCain) Kidd in Fisher County. He was raised and attended schools in the Capitola Community of Fisher County. John served his country as a member of the United States Army from May of 1955 until his duties were completed in April of 1957. During the Korean Conflict, while stationed in Japan, he served in an Anti-Aircraft Division working with 75mm guns.
John married Betty Mae Bond on May 16, 1959 in the Flatwood Community of Eastland County. The couple was blessed with over 48 years of matrimony and four children, Sherry, Brenda, Shirley, and John Glenn Kidd.
Mr. Kidd was a farmer and a rancher by trade. He was involved his entire life with 4-H. He was a member of the Eastland County Livestock Raisers Association and was a Past President and Board Member of the Farm Bureau in Eastland County. John was also a member of the Daugherty Street Church of Christ in Eastland.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, B.C. “Butch” Kidd, and a grandson James C. Rodriguez, Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Kidd of Eastland; his daughters, Sherry Whiteside and husband Jeffrey of Sipe Springs, Brenda Kidd of Shelby, North Carolina, Shirley Dove and husband Dwayne of Eastland; his son, John Glenn Kidd and Danna Casey of Eastland; his son-in-law, James Rodriguez; his sisters, Frankie Toland, M.E. Waddell, Ann Cearley, Margie Flint, Betty Steele, Jane Collins, Wanda Jordan; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Memorial donations in Mr. Kidd’s name may be made to the Highland Church of Christ Hospitality House Fund in Abilene.
Thomas Allen Lancaster
Eastland- Thomas Allen Lancaster, 61, of Carbon, died Jan. 1, 2008 at his residence in Carbon.
Inurnment services will be held at a later date in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Mr. Lancaster was born November 11, 1946 in Cabool, Missouri to Leslie and Ida (Nelson) Lancaster. He moved to Hutchinson, Kansas at age 7 where he graduated high school and attended college. He entered the U S Army in 1968 serving in the Military Police in Vietnam until 1970. He returned to Hutchinson, Kansas and began a 20 year career as a service technician for Kansas Gas Company. He married Margrett Cook on Dec. 19, 1996 in Hutchinson. He worked in quality control for Legacy Foods until 2004 when he retired and moved to Carbon, Texas. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, woodworking, telling of tales and life stories. He was a member of the Carbon Volunteer Fire Department, VFW and Pipe fitters union.

Boyd H. Hodge
Boyd Horld Hodge 76 of Carbon passed away Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Kimbrough Funeral Home in Cisco officiated by Reverend Bayless Pope. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Comanche County. Visitation with friends was Friday 6:00-8:00 at the funeral home.
Mr. Hodge was born in Menard, Texas on August 28, 1931 to George O. and Ellen (Balch) Hodge. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. On January 19, 1952 he married Mary Lou Thornton in Odessa, Texas. He worked as a truck driver and was a member and Deacon at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Hodge of Carbon; sons, Glenn Edward Hodge and wife Troi of Lewisville and Jeffery Wayne Hodge and wife Sydnie of Cisco; brother, Willard Hodge and wife Laverne of Cisco; grandchildren, Kevin Hodge, Casey Hodge, and Shelbi Burkman; and great-grand- child, Sawyer Burkman.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, his twin brother, Lloyd Hodge who died at birth and Ollen Hodge and three sisters, Viola Dennis, Pauline Glasson and Mary Hudman.
Jesse M. Sellers
Eastland -- Jesse M. Sellers, 66, of Ranger, passed away January 3, 2008 in Abilene.
Funeral services will be held at the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home Chapel in Eastland. Interment follows at Mr. Zion Cemetery in Stephens County. Date and times were pending at press time.
John Joseph Corley
RANGER--John Joseph Corley passed away on January 4, 2008 at his home from a medical condition he bravely battled over the last year.
Visitation was held at the families home on Monday from 4-7:00 P.M., with Rosary at 7:00 P.M. Doors to the residence will close at 8:00 P.M. Mass of the Angels and burial was held Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at Christ the King Abbey in Cullman, Alabama. Local arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Ranger.
John was preceded in death by a grandfather, Elmer L. Corley of Louisiana, great-grandfather, JR Trussell of Ft. Worth, great-grandparents, Ivy Langston of Cleburne, Mr. and Mrs. Audrey Aronstein of Louisiana, and Willie Mae Saint of Louisiana.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Corley; his brothers and sisters, Autrey (Frater Boniface), Ashley, Clare, Nicholas, and Michael Corley; his grandparents, Bobby and Rita Langston of Cleburne, Randy and Sue Rein of California; great-grandmother Betty Trussell of Ft. Worth; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, family, friends, and medical staff.

Mose Nantz
RANGER- Mose Nantz, 87, passed away on January 3, 2008 in Abilene.
Visitation was Sunday evening, January 6, 2008 from 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home. Services were held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 7, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Ranger. Services were by Edwards Funeral Home.
Mose was born April 16, 1920 to Dan and Susie (Engels) Nantz. He lived in the community all his life. He married Wilda Sides on March 7, 1970 in Ranger, TX. Mose was a self-employed rancher and butcher. He serviced all the grocers in the area from Cisco to Strawn including many families. Mose and his family were awarded the title of Agriculture Family of the Year in 1998. Mose is also credited with helping in the first ideas of starting the Lake Leon Cowboy Church.
He is preceded in death by his first wife Betty and three sisters, Pearl, Alice and Nelee.
He is survived by he wife Wilda, nephew, John Estes, niece, Jane Shotwell, Leon Nantz, Sue Fussell, and several other nieces and nephews.
Carl Franklin Rice
CLYDE- Carl Franklin Rice died Thursday, January 3, 2008 at his home in Clyde, Texas.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2008 at the Bailey Chapel with Rev. Jack Stevens officiating. Burial followed in the Mitchell Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.
Carl was born in Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia on April 28, 1960. He lived in Norfolk, Virginia, Waubegan, Illinois, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Michigan, Abilene and Austin. He attended school in Norfolk, Virginia, Cuba, Dallas and Clyde. He was a machinist and had worked for Froman Manufacturing, NuCorp and Eastmand Whipstock. He also worked at the Abilene State School.
During the 1980’s and 1990’s, he was lead guitarist for several area bands in Abilene, including “High Wire” and “Alley Cats”.
He married Tracey Slimp in 1982 and together they had a daughter, Leslie Aylse.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Henry and Amy Rice of Carbon and his maternal grandparents, Jesse M. and Louine Grace Williams; and his step-granddad Willie George Parrish.
He is survived by his parents, Carl and Jan Rice of Clyde; and daughter, Leslie Aylse Rice of Fort Worth.
Serving as pallbearers were Randy Cummins, Robert McDougal and Dale Harris.
Pearlenar ‘Pearl’ Graham Baker Abreu
EASTLAND- Pearlenar (Pearl) Graham Baker Abreu, age 90, left this world for her new home to be with Jesus on Friday, January 4, 2008.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 7, 2008 at 2 PM in the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Romney Cemetery with Pastor John Howard officiating.
Pearl Rich was born on January 12, 1917 in the Romney Community to Allison Rich and Flora May Curtis. She grew up in Romney with her four sisters, five brothers, and two step-brothers. She graduated from high school in Rising Star.
Pearl worked at Horton Pottery and Ceramics but was primarily a homemaker. She was brought up in Church and attended the Pentecostal Church. Pearl was blessed with four children, fourteen grandchildren, forty three great-grandchildren, thirteen great-great- grandchildren and numerous extended family members and friends.
Pearl loved the Lord and loved people. She was especially fond of little children and they always made her smile. Pearl looked for the more meaningful things in life; God, love, friendship and family. She had a love for Gospel music.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, and her daughter Gay Nell Howard.
Pearl is survived by her husband of twenty years, Juan Abreu; son, Charles Graham and wife Nina of Springtown; daughters, Joyce Elmore and her husband Aden of Eastland and Bonnie Williams of Carbon; sisters, Lillian Pharr of Little Rock and Augusta McCoy of Eastland; fourteen grandchildren; forty three great-grandchildren; and thirteen great-great grandchildren.
Ida Louise Bush
Ida Louise Bush, 87, of Fort Worth, Texas former resident of Friona passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Home in North Richland Hills, Texas.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 PM, Monday, January 7, 2008 at Rising Star Church of Christ with Charles Chesshir officiating. Burial will be in the May Cemetery in May, Texas with Higginbotham Funeral Home of Rising Star in Charge.
Louise was born on March 4, 1920 in Fort Worth, Texas to James and Pearl Pressly-Killough. She married D.E. Bush on August 17, 1942 in Muleshoe, Texas. She was a homemaker for many of her early married years and then became an employee of the U.S. Postal Service. She was a member of the Church of Christ and did missionary work for many years.
Louise is survived by her 3 sons, Paul Bush; Johnny Watson; Mack Watson-Bush; 2 daughters, Cathy Tate; Tammy Pelletier; granddaughter, April Bush; grandsons, Jeff Bush; David Martin; nieces and nephews and siblings. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, D.E. Bush; 2 daughters, Kay Bush and Marnita Bush.

Jesse M. Sellers
EASTLAND- Jesse M. Sellers, 66, of Ranger, passed away January 3, 2008 in Abilene.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 6, 2008 at the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home Chapel in Eastland. Interment followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Stephens County with Pastor Jason Stidham officiating.
Jesse M. Sellers was born to Jesse M. Sellers and Era Irene Jones on December 9, 1941. He served in the United States Army. He owned and operated Sellers Auto & Sellers Auto Salvage in Breckenridge. He was an Ordained Baptist Minister. His love for the Lord led him to begin the Gospel Mission in Breckenridge and to minister to those difficult situations.
Jesse was an avid hunter, a fisherman, and a horseman. He ranched and raised horses and mules. His kindness and generosity was extended to many.
Mr. Sellers was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Sellers-Ferguson.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda Sellers; his daughters, Donna Williams and husband James and Joanie Edwards and husband Judson; one son, Randy Sellers and wife Melissa; a brother, Kenneth Sellers; three sisters, Frances McAdams, Lois Suga, and Linda Kennemer; grandchildren, Jessica MacFarlane, Benjamin Rand, Daniel De La Cruz, Wade Edwards, Sadie Edwards, Kimberlea De La Cruz; great granddaughters, Morgan, Makenzie, and Kennedy; and a very special son-in-law, Clark Ferguson.
Jesse is also survived by a special friend, Tumbleweed. Jesse was loved by many and will be missed by all.
Minter Ray Hardin
Minter Ray Hardin,78, of Benbrook, Texas passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Home in Benbrook, Texas.

Ray was born on December 12, 1929 in Rising Star, Texas to George Minter and Marie Inabnet-Hardin. He married Jo Nell Witt on March 17, 1951 in Rising Star, Texas. He lived in Rising Star and Midland then moved to Fort Worth in 1967 till the present. He went to college at Howard Payne University and got his degree in 1951. He served in the United States Army during Korea. He was a retired General Dynamics Project Manger of Logistics. He was a member of Western Hills Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas.
Ray is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jo Nell Hardin of Benbrook; 2 daughters, Julia Elaine Brooks and her husband, George of Abilene; Donna Rhea Fromm and her husband, Mike of Ft. Worth; sister, Lois Marie Hickman and her husband, Roy Don of Kerrville; sister-in-law, Shirley Allen of Winters; brother and sister-in-law, Clay Witt and his wife, Jean of Avinger; 5 grandchildren, Mark, Russell and Daniel Wright; Timothy and Tara Fromm; 4 great grandchildren. Vergie Gosnell Prickett
Vergie Gosnell Prickett, 85, of Cisco passed away Sunday, January 6, 2008, in Brownwood.
Services were held Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at 2:00 PM in the Kimbrough Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Reverend Justin Krieg with Reverend Ronnie White assisting. Burial followed in the Corinth Cemetery directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home. Visitation was 6~8:00 PM Tuesday evening in the funeral home chapel.
Mrs. Prickett was born October 29, 1922, to Homer D. and Lara Mae (Tow) Duckworth in Quail, Texas. She married Loyd Preston Gosnell in Wellington, Texas on December 13, 1941. Their son, Don, was born on February 27, 1943. They moved to Cisco in 1946. Lloyd preceded Vergie in death in 1953. In 1973 Vergie married John Prickett. He preceded her in death in 1979.
She was employed by Boss Manufacturing Co. for 23 years, and was a long-time faithful member of the Faith Baptist Church. The Lord was always first in her life, followed by her family and friends. She loved her family and was always smiling and laughing. She led many people to the Lord.
She is survived by son, Don Gosnell and wife, Debbie, of Cross Plains; step-children, Frances Blair and husband, Weston, of Granbury, Dona Marsh and husband, Tony, of Cisco, Nancy Graham and husband, Lee, of Midland, Bobby Prickett and wife, Ann, of Abilene and Aubrey Prickett of Ohio; sisters, Bobbie Jo Seal and Betty Seal of Wellington, Texas; Granddaughters, Cindy Smith and husband, Kevin of Midland and Bonnie Switzer and husband, Creath, of Cross Plains; grandson, Jody Gosnell of Cross Plains; great-grandchildren: Chad Smith and, Hayley Smith, of Midland and Lindsey Ames and husband, Jayton, of Cross Plains. Numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren survive.
An infant daughter, sister, Lorene Atkins, and brother, Delmar Duckworth preceded Mrs. Prickett in death.
John M. Kidd
Eastland -- John M. Kidd, age 74, passed away on January 2, 2008.
Funeral services were held at 2PM, Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Daugherty St. Church of Christ under the direction of the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home. Interment followed at Flatwood Cemetery with Larry Roberts officiating.
John Mc Kidd was born December 10, 1933 to Bennie Kidd and Clair (McCain) Kidd in Fisher County. He was raised and attended schools in the Capitola Community of Fisher County. John served his country as a member of the United States Army from May of 1955 until his duties were completed in April of 1957. During the Korean Conflict, while stationed in Japan, he served in an Anti-Aircraft Division working with 75mm guns.
John married Betty Mae Bond on May 16, 1959 in the Flatwood Community of Eastland County. The couple was blessed with over 48 years of matrimony and four children, Sherry, Brenda, Shirley, and John Glenn Kidd.
Mr. Kidd was a farmer and a rancher by trade. He was involved his entire life with 4-H. He was a member of the Eastland County Livestock Raisers Association and was a Past President and Board Member of the Farm Bureau in Eastland County. John was also a member of the Daugherty Street Church of Christ in Eastland.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, B.C. “˜Butch” Kidd, and a grandson James C. Rodriquez Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Kidd of Eastland; his daughters, Sherry Whiteside and husband Jeffrey of Sipe Springs, Brenda Kidd of Shelby, North Carolina, Shirley Dove and husband Dwayne of Eastland; his son, John Glenn Kidd and Danna Casey of Eastland; his son-in-law, James Rodriquez; his sisters, Frankie Toland, M.E. Waddell, Ann Cearley, Margie Flint, Betty Steele, Jane Collins, Wanda Jordan; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Milton Fuchs
Eastland - Milton Fuchs, age 88, formerly of Cisco, passed away on December 27, 2007.
A memorial funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at the Summers-Bakker Funeral Chapel. Sister Thelma Hostetter of the Victory Assembly Church in Cisco will officiate the service held under the direction of the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home.
Milton was born on November 5, 1919 in Pflugerville, Texas to Emmitt Fuchs and Minnie (Pfluger) Fuchs. Milton was raised in Pflugerville which was named for his mother’s family. He honored his country by serving in the United States Army and later attended the University of Texas at Austin.
On June 10, 1967, Milton married Frances Ross in Lubbock. The couple lived and worked in Lubbock, Austin, and Waco. Mr. Fuchs was a pharmacist. He retired in 1992 and relocated to Cisco in 1999. Milton was a member of the Lutheran Church.
Milton’s greatest passion in life was his love of the University of Texas Longhorn Football Team.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 40 years, Frances.
He is survived by his step-son, Bobby Rhodes and wife Marilyn of McKinney; step-daughters, DeAnn Light and husband Carl of Cisco, Mickey Edwards and husband Ronnie of Eastland, and Lisa Roberts of Cisco; his sisters, Vivian Johnson of Austin, and Mildred Smith of Temple, 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made in Mr. Fuch’s name to the Amercian Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
Horace Maples

Horace Maples, 93, father of Dr. Larry Maples, of Eastland, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2007, at a local hospital.
Funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2008 in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel, 5725 Colleyville Blvd. Interment: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Visitation was held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

J.C. Poe
EASTLAND- J. C. Poe age 97, longtime resident of Eastland and Owner of Poe Floral, died Monday, January 7, 2008 in Abilene.
Services were held Wednesday, January 9, 2008 10 AM in Edwards Chapel in Eastland with Dr. Joe Tom Poe officiating. Burial in Longbranch Cemetery.
Born Jacob Captian Poe on December 27, 1910 to Silas Nathan and Una Reese Poe in Longbranch where he was raised on the family farm. He attended school in Carbon and Cisco but played football for Eastland. He worked in road construction during the depression building the road over Cisco Lake Dam. He married Merle Stone on March 14, 1932 in Palo Pinto. They lived in Cisco a short while before moving to Eastland where he worked for Bill Walters Meat market. They started Poe Floral in 1946 and sold it in 1969 to Dub Hoffman. J.C. ranched until 1985 when he retired. They enjoyed RV traveling and camping.
They were members of First Baptist Church in Eastland, Knights of Pythias and JC was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the National Guard.
Thomas Allen Lancaster
EASTLAND- Thomas Allen Lancaster, 61, of Carbon, died Jan. 1, 2008 at his residence in Carbon. Inurnment services will be held at a later date in Hutchinson Kansas.
Mr. Lancaster was born November 14, 1946 in Cabool, Missouri to Leslie and Ida (Nelson) Lancaster. He moved to Hutchinson, Kansas at age 7 where he graduated high school and attended college. He entered the U S Army in 1968 serving in the Military Police in Vietnam until 1972. He returned to Hutchinson, Kansas and began a 20 year career as a service technician for Kansas Gas Company. He married Margrett McLean on Dec. 19, 1996 in Hutchinson. He worked in quality control for Legacy Foods until 2004 when he retired and moved to Carbon, Texas. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, woodworking, telling of tales and life stories. He was a member of the VFW and Pipe fitters union.

Othel Clearman Creager
Othel Clearman Creager, widow of the late W.F. Creager, born Oct. 16, 1907 in Eastland Co. TX, and passed away Dec. 28, 2007 in Kaufman, TX.
Othel graduated from Gorman High School and worked as a secretary prior to her marriage in 1930. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.F. Creager and daughter, Melba Creager Daves.
She is survived by daughter, Lanita Creager Williamson of Dallas and son William F. Creager of Chestertown, MD; grandchildren: Amy Wilcox, Allice Bonner, Marsha Otterstedt, Carol Schnurrenderger, and William Ward Creager; a sister, Wardine Moore, of Tyler and five great grandchildren also survive her.
A luncheon party was celebrated in honor of her 100th birthday with her loving family at her home in October. Actively invoved in the Methodist Churches in Ranger and Kaufman, Mrs. Creager was an avid gardener, regular at the bridge table, and she loved crosswords and cryptograms. On Wednesday, the 26th, she solved the Jackpot Puzzle on Wheel of Fortune before retiring and going to sleep.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 am, Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. John Gondol officiating. Interment followed at the family plot at Simpson Cemetery in Gorman, Texas.
Roland Kenneth Hicks
Roland Kenneth Hicks, 73, of May, Texas died Friday, January 4, 2008 in Brownwood, Texas.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2008 at the Cross Roads Baptist Church near Lake Brownwood with Edwin Wheeles officiating. Interment will be held in Rising Star Cemetery. Directed by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
Roland Hicks was born on July 9, 1934 in Seagraves, Texas, the son of the late Raymond C. and Mary Hassell Hicks. He married Brenda K. McRae on November 6, 1999 in May, Texas.
Mr. Hicks served his country in the United States Army for 20 years as a nurse anesthetist, retiring on July 1, 1977, in Columbus, Georgia with the rank of Major. Roland was a member of MOAA, he loved to fish, do woodworking and gardening. He was a member of the Rogers Baptist Church and had lived in May since 1983.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda K. Hicks of May; sons, Kevin Dewayne Hicks and wife Julie, of Columbus, Georgia and Kenneth Scott Hicks and wife Kelly, of Claremore, Oklahoma; daughters, Danette Allen of Columbus, Georgia and Elaine Barnes and husband Dewayne, of Louisa, Virginia; stepson, Phillip Tytanic and wife Misti, of Midland, TX.; brothers, Ray Hicks and wife Nancy of Dryden, New York and Roy Joe Clark and wife Alice, of Elephant Butte, New Mexico; sisters, Charlene Hendricks and husband, Marvis of Midland and Wanda Jean Eggert of San Antonio; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mary Hicks; one brother, Jerry ‘Jack’ Clark; stepfather, Roy Edward Clark and stepmother, Wanda Lucille Underwood Hicks.

Thomas Irving Akens
Carpenter, husband, father and grandfather, Thomas Irving Akens was born November 9, 1922 and died peacefully in his sleep on January 3, 2008 at the age of 85. Visitation was to be from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, January 4, at Bailey Funeral Home in Clyde, TX. Funeral services were to be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Januar 5, 2005 at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was to be at the Midway Cemetery in Hodges, Texas.
Tom (T.I.) lived a full, rich life. He was a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge for over 60 years. Born in Hodges, Texas, Tom was the eldest of Thomas Jefferson and Mary Belle Akens. Tom was employed by The Paramount Theater as the Head Doorman when World War II began. At the age of 20, he joined the Army Air Corps. He was proud to serve his country in World War II and again in Korea as a member of the 303 Bomb Group, 8th Airforce. “The Hell’s Angels”. He flew combat missions over Germany in a B17. After completion of his military service, he returned to Abilene, where he met his future wife, Eddy Jo Evans. It was love at first sight. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married in Houston, Texas on September 9, 1948. Tom farmed for a short period of time, but his true calling was carpentry. Tom’s woodworking skills were known to many. His talents enabled him to leave his mark in the homes of many, ranging from Hollywood actors, luxury high rises, custom build homes and even tract housing. It didn’t matter who the customer was, or how much they paid, they all got Tom’s best efforts. Tom’s motto was “Whatever you do, be the best you can be.” No matter what Tom was doing, he gave it all he had and left a lasting impression on all those who met him.
Tom is survived by his wife, Eddy Jo Akens, daughter Linda Hamilton and husband Billy of Houston, daughter Brenda Delcomyn and husband Ronnie, also of Houston, son Thomas (Mike) Akens and wife Jan, son Pat Akens and wife Yvonne and son Tim Akens and wife Loy, all of Abilene. Tom was the proud grandfather of fifteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. His legacy lives on with each of them. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Pall bearers for the service will be his grandsons. Memorials may be made to the Scottish Rite hospital. Heaven has obtained another good carpenter. Tom will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Wanda Lane Heatherly
Wanda Lane Heatherlty, 69, passed away Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008 at an Abilene Medical Center. Funeral Services were to be Saturday, January 5th, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Abilene with Pastor David Black officiating.
Wanda was born on Christmas Day 1938 in Cross plains, Texas to Sam and Reba Lane. She was raised in Cross and after few years away, she found herself in Abilene, where she had been for the last 35 years. After spending 17 years raising her family, Wanda became a Realtor in Abilene. She then went to college and received a Bachelor of Science in Wayland Baptist University with a Bachelor of Science in business. She used her education helping people as a Social Worker for the Texas Department of Human Services until her retirment in 1987. Wanda’s life was filled with time enjoying her granchildren and being the perfect “Nana”. She was a dedicated wife and mother. She loved to sew and quilt and spend time tending her plants. Wanda was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a member of Xi Omicron Zeta.
Wanda was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by her husband, Bill Heatherly, daughter and son-in -law Debbie and Steve Smith, son and daughter-in-law Rick and Kristy Waldraff, mother Reba Lane, sisters Virginia Childers and husband Aubrey and Peggie and husband Lou Pecchioni as well her pride and joy, grandchildren Bryan and Greg Smith and Brad and Matthew Waldraff, all of Abilene.

Lynda Drucilla Bennett
Lynda Drucilla Bennett, 74 of Abilene and formerly of Clyde and Baird, died Friday, January 4, 2008 at her daughter’s home in Åbilene.
Services were to Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Clyde Church of Christ with Ken Crow officiating. Burial was to follow in the Clyde Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home. Visitation was from 4 :00 to 6 :00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Lynda was born May 10, 1933 in Logan, New Mexico to Olan and Adelle (Field) Bogard. She graduated from Rule High School andTelegraphy School.
She was the widow of Charles Duane Bennett whem she married July 3, 1952 in Lamesa. She had worked as a receiptionist in the medical field for Dr. Fox, Dr. Gayao and Dr. Voelter. Before retirng she had worked for the Callahan County Clerk’s Office. She was a member of the Clyde Church of Christ.
Lynda is survived by three sons, Mike Bennett and wife, Jeanie of Brownfield, Mark Bennett and wife, Nancy of Fort Phantom, and West Bennett and wife, Terrie of Abilene; two brothers, Don Bogard and Carroll Bogard, both of Dallas; and seven grandchildren, Brandt Bennett and Susan Scott, Stephanie Bennett, Matthew Bennett, Travis Bennett, Aaron Bennett, Rachel Bennett and Jon Westin Bennett.
Lynda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Duane and her son-in-law John Hello.

Iva Dell Lively
Iva Dell Lively, 81, of Clyde, went home to meet Jesus on Friday, January 4, 2008.
Iva was born on April 7, 1926, to P.D. and Alta Mae Conway in Silver Valley. She was outgoing, loving and faced life with a smile. Her laugh was contagious, and her sense of humor was dry. She married twice. Her first husband was Arthur Hue Staggs, a decorated veteran of WWII. Her second husband was James Houston Lively. Both preceded her in death.
Iva Dell attended school in Coleman. She worked many years in the dietary department at McMurry University and Sears Methodist Center in Abilene. After retiring, she volunteered as a Foster Grandparent with the Head Start Program in Clyde. She loved cooking, gardening and playing with children. She was preceded in death by: her parents, a brother Gordon Conway of Coleman, and a sister, Martha Barkemeyer of Coleman. She was also preceded in death by three granddaughters, Tonja Gaye Irwin, Tammy Lucille Scott and Jacklyn Rae Hayden.
She is survived by three daughters, Minnie Watson of Coleman, Janice Hardin and husband Joe of Del Rio, and Jamie Hayden and husband Jack of Clyde. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Randy Joel Irwin of Coleman Jessica Michal Hardin of Stephenville, Justin Lee Hayden of Del Rio; and three great-grandchildren, Joanna Irwin, Tonia Irwin and Elisha Irwin of Coleman.
Visitation was from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Bailey Funeral Home in Clyde. Services were to be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Bailey Chapel with Brother Billy Sellers officiating. Burial was to follow in the Clyde Cemetery.
In her final years, Ira Dell was stricken with Alzheimer’s and received the best care in West Texas at Windcrest Alzheimer’s Care Center in Abilene. Donations may be made to Windcrest Alzheimer’s Care Center, Sears Methodist Foundation or McMurry University.
Carl Franklin Rice
Carl Franklin Rice, son of Carl W. and Jan Rice, died Thursday at his home in Clyde, Texas.
Services were to be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jack Stevens officiating.
Burial was to follow in the Mitchell Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.
Carl was born in Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia on April 28, 1960. He lived in Norfolk, Virginia, Waubegan, Illinois, Guantonamo Bay, Cuba, Michigan, Abilene and Austin. He attended school in Norfolk, VA, Cuba, Dallas and Clyde. He was a machinist and had worked for Froman Manufacturing, NuCorp and Eastman Whipstock.
Carl also worked at the Abilene State School. During the 1980s and 1990s he was lead guitarist for several bands in Abilene, including “High Wire” and “Alley Cats”.
He married Tracey Slimp in 1982, and together they had a daughter, Leslie Aylse. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Henry and Amy Rice of Carbon and his maternal grandparents, Jesse M. and Louine Grace Williams and his stepgrandad Willie George Parrish.
Carl is survived by his parents, Carl and Jan Rice of Clyde and daughter, Leslie Aylse Rice of Fort Worth.
Serving as pass bearers will be Randy Cummins, Robert McDougal and Dale Harris.
Visitation was to be from 6 - 7:30 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2007 at the funeral home.
James “Jim” Willis Earp
James “Jim” Willis EARP, age 83 years, Omaha , passed away Monday, 1/7/08, at Clarkson Hospital . He was born October 18, 1924 in Baird , TX , to Ida and John Clarence Earp. He was raised in Baird , TX and received his education at Baird High School . He proudly served in the Army Air Corps as a gunner and radio operator during World War II. After serving his country, he began his long and successful career in the automobile business. His career started in Wichita , KS , as a body shop mechanic restoring and selling one car at a time. With his sales volume increasing he soon opened his own used-car lot. He spent the next eighteen years working to improve his status in the new-used car business. In 1965 he was presented the opportunity to purchase a Chrysler-Plymouth dealership in Omaha at 26th and “L” Sts. Three years later a new, larger dealership was built on 55th and “L” Sts. and his business expanded with the addition of Jeep, Dodge, Volvo and Mercedes Benz in Omaha and Nissan in Bellevue and, later, a Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge-Mazda dealership in Grand Island . A final dealership was added in Auburn , NE. His dealerships were awarded several honors by Chrysler Corporation including the Pacemakers Club and Pentastar Club awards. He was active in the Nebraska New Car Dealers Association and he was a founding member of the World War II Memorial in Washington , D.C. Jim retired in 2005. Jim “Old Smiley” was famous for his advertising slogan “Nobody But Nobody Undersells Jim Earp” and his personal favorite, “Early To Bed, Early To Rise, Work Like Hell and Advertise.” In 1971 he was presented an award for the best advertising of all Chrysler-Plymouth Dealers nationwide.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, J. C. Earp of Baird , TX ; sister, Christene Stockton of Henrietta , TX . Jim is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Shirley; sister, JoJuan Rogers of Clyde, TX; daughters and sons-in-law: Janet and W. David Gregory of Tabor, IA, Judy and Dr. Gerald B. Simons of Omaha; grandsons: James A. Simons, Jonathan B. Simons and wife Heather, all of Omaha; several nieces and nephews; many friends and a multitude of former loyal employees.

J.C. Poe
EASTLAND- J. C. Poe, 97, a resident of Mesa Springs Nursing Center in Abilene, and formerly of Eastland and owner of Poe Floral, died Monday, January 7, 2007 in Abilene.
Services were held Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at 10 A.M. in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Eastland with Dr. Joe Tom Poe officiating. Burial was in the Long Branch Cemetery.
He was born Jacob Captain Poe on November 27, 1910 to Silas Nathan and Una (Reese) Poe in Long Branch, where he was raised on the family farm. He attended school in Carbon and Cisco but played football for Eastland. He worked in road construction during the depression building the road over Cisco Lake Dam. He married Merle Stone on March 14, 1932 in Palo Pinto. She preceded him in death in 2003. They lived in Cisco a short while before moving to Eastland, where he worked for Bill Walters Meat Market. They started Poe Floral in 1946 and sold it in 1969 to Dub Hoffmann. J.C. ranched until 1985, when he retired. They enjoyed RV traveling and camping. They were members of First Baptist Church in Eastland, Knights of Pythias and J.C. was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the National Guard.
Survivors include a daughter and husband, Margie Lee and Donald of Midland, TX; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Evelyn Poe of Lumberton, TX; sister, Geraldine Campbell of Albuquerque, NM; granddaughter, Vicki Brockmand and husband Bryan of Amarillo, TX; grandson, Air Force Colonel Tim Green, deployed to Quatar, and wife Susan of Springfield, VA; great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Kristen Brockman of Amarillo, TX, Rachel Green and Jacob Andrew Green both of Springfield, VA; sister-in-law, Kay Stone; and nephews, James W. ”Rocky” Stone, E.O. “Stoney” Stone, Mike Stone and Ken Stone; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Harvey Lester ‘Les’ Strawn, Jr.
Harvey Lester “Les” Strawn, Jr., age 81, of Comanche, Texas died Monday, January 7, 2008 at his daughters home after a lengthy battle with cancer and heart disease.
Les served a lifetime of law enforcement. He started his career in the Army as a military policeman. He then attended West Point Academy as a young man and then worked for the Department of Public Safety as a Texas Highway Patrolman for 23 years serving the towns and counties of Albany, Eastland, Abilene, Del Rio, Sonora, and Comanche.
After retiring from the State Highway Patrol, he became a police Sergeant for Comanche and served 10 years and later served as a Deputy Sheriff for Comanche County. He was also a private security officer for several years.
After finally retiring from Law Enforcement, his spare time used doing what he loved, playing golf. He played in many tournaments, always doing well, usually winning. Les played in the PGA Senior Golf Tournament that was televised on ESPN.
Les was instrumental in the development of the Texas Highway Patrol Museum in San Antonio and was on the Board of Directors. Les was also featured in the Winter 2007 edition of the Texas Highway Patrol Magazine, highlighting his great career with the Highway Patrol. Quoting the article, “In 2008 the Wall of History inside the Texas Highway Patrol Museum in San Antonio will be renamed ‘The Les Strawn Wall of History’ in his honor.”
Les was also a 32nd degree Mason for over 50 years and past master of the Comanche Lodge.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Georgia; his daughter, Debbie Perkins of Bailey, Colorado; his son, Anthony Strawn of Burkett, Texas; grandchildren, Bandy Jacob Strawn and Destiny Perkins both of Colorado.
He was preceded in death by a son, Herschel Strawn.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Heartland Funeral Home of Comanche with Bro. R.D. Williams officiating. Burial followed in the Gardens of Memories Cemetery in Comanche County.

Cisco- David Pullias, 96, of Abilene, passed away on January 7, 2008.
Memorial services were Thursday, January 10, 2008 at the Baker Heights Church of Christ in Abilene with Gary Montgomery officiating. Graveside services followed on January 11, 2008 at Restland Cemetery in Dallas, under the direction of the Summers Funeral Homes.
David Lipscomb Pullias was born November 4, 1911 in Lewisburg, Tennesse, to Charles M. Pullias, a well known Church of Christ Minister, and Martha Jane (Hearn) Pullias.
David honorably served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He had attained the rank of Corporal working as a supply man and was qualified as a sharpshooter. He had a career as a salesman for the General Foods Corporation selling food and soap products. David was also a very active member of the Baker Heights Church of Christ in Abilene.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife, Elizabeth S. Pullias.
David is survived by his wife, Annetta Pullias, of Cisco; his sons, David Pullias of Kerrville and Charles Pullias of Memphis, Tennessee; his step-son, Bill Kendall of Cisco; and many grandchildren and other relatives. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Vergie Gosnell Prickett
Vergie Gosnell Prickett, 85, of Cisco passed away Sunday, January 6, 2008, in Brownwood.
Services were held Wednesda, January 9, 2008 at 2:00 PM in the Kimbrough Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Reverend Justin Krieg with Reverend Ronnie White assisting. Burial followed in the Corinth Cemetery directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home. Visitation was held 6~8:00 PM Tuesday evening in the funeral home chapel.
Mrs. Prickett was born October 29, 1922, to Homer D. and Lara Mae (Tow) Duckworth in Quail, Texas. She married Loyd Preston Gosnell in Wellington, Texas on December 13, 1941. Their son, Don, was born on February 27, 1943. They moved to Cisco in 1946. Lloyd preceded Vergie in death in 1953. In 1973 Vergie married John Prickett. He preceded her in death in 1979.
She was employed by Boss Manufacturing Co. for 23 years, and was a long-time faithful member of the Faith Baptist Church. The Lord was always first in her life, followed by her family and friends. She loved her family and was always smiling and laughing. She led many people to the Lord.
She is survived by son, Don Gosnell and wife, Debbie, of Cross Plains; step-children, Frances Blair and husband, Weston, of Granbury, Dona Marsh and husband, Tony, of Cisco, Nancy Graham and husband, Lee, of Midland, Bobby Prickett and wife, Ann, of Abilene and Aubrey Prickett of Ohio; sisters, Bobbie Jo Seal and Betty Seal of Wellington, Texas; Grand-daughters, Cindy Smith and husband, Kevin of Midland and Bonnie Switzer and husband, Creath, of Cross Plains; grandson, Jody Gosnell of Cross Plains; great-grandchildren:
Chad Smith and Hayley Smith, of Midland and Lindsey Ames and Jayton Ames, of Cross Plains.
Numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren survive. An infant daughter, sister, Lorene Atkins, and brother, Delmar Duckworth preceded Mrs. Prickett in death.
Bert Ray Kent
Eastland- Bert Ray Kent, age 77, passed away on January 8, 2008.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 11, 2008 at 2 PM at Bethel Baptist Church under the direction of the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home. Interment followed at Oakland Cemetery near Gorman with Craig Rhoten and Jim Andrews officiating.
Bert Ray Kent was born on January 9, 1930 in Rising Star to Bert Kent and Ada Florence Bohannan. Bert married Doris Mae Vann on July 23, 1954 in Carbon. They were blessed with three children, Terry, Tommy and Dianne. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Bert served his country honorably during the Korean War.
Bert worked for the Texas Inspection Service, in the agriculture division. Bert was a member of the Lake Leon VFW Post #4136 as well as the Masonic Lodge in Eastland. He enjoyed fishing and working with his hands, especially woodworking. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
Bert is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Tommy Alan Kent; his brother, William Leroy Kent; and his sister Ida Sue Kent.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 53 years, Doris Kent of Eastland;his son, Terry Ray Kent of Merkel; his daughter Doris Dianne Moss and husband John of Gorman; a very special granddaughter, Kellie Sharee Moss of Gorman; sister Twyla Wallace of Colorado; brother, Billy W. Kent and wife Sue of Center; and a niece Patty Fritz and husband Brad of Colorado as well as many other beloved nieces and relatives.

Billy Joe Culwell
BROWNWOOD- Billy Joe Culwell, 80, died Monday, January 7, 2008 in Brownwood, Texas.
Funeral services were held Thursday, January 10, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Kiker-Seale Funeral Home chapel. Burial followed in the Colorado City Cemetery with Rev. Lynn Garrett and Rev. Frank Hammack.
Mr. Culwell was born on December 21, 1927 to John Thomas and Myra Juanita Culwell in Carbon, Texas. He was a longtime resident of Colorado City and member of First Baptist Church of Loraine. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, LaQuita Joy Culwell; and brother, Don Culwell.
Survivors are his wife, Bessie Louise Culwell of Lake Brownwood; sons, Tommy Culwell and wife, LaQuita Jane of Snyder and Richard Hill and wife, Deana of Lake Brownwood; daughters, Cheryl Bradberry and husband, Jim of Henderson, Teresa Alspaugh and husband, Pat of Sinton, TX, Sheila Taylor and husband, Stanley of Corpus Christi; and Lee Ann Posey and husband, Kevin of Oregon City, OR; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Lillie Maria Dillard of Cross Plains; brother, Dale Culwell of Seguin, TX.
Mary E. Boch
On January 11, 2008 Mary Boch passed away after a long illness.
Mary Boch was born Mary Edith Aday on February 25, 1925 in Henderson county Texas to Daisy and William Ross Aday. Her mother was a teacher and father a farmer and rancher. She attended school in Waxahachie Texas. She met her future husband in Fort Worth at the General Dynamics factory during the early 1940’s.
Mary and Lindy became Mr. and Mrs. Linden R. Boch on December 21, 1947 after Lindy returned from the Pacific and was discharged from the Navy.
They lived in Columbus, Ohio long enough to have their first child Charlotte Ann in 1950. A move to Fort Stockton and then to Abilene for their second child Lin in 1954. After a few years in Amarillo Mary and Lindy followed his job as a geologist to Midland for ten years. They retired while at Snyder to become pecan growers in Eastland county. Mary moved to Midland in 1998 after Lindy passed away to be closer to her children.
Mary is survived by one of her five sisters, Mildred Perryman and her husband Romie of Abilene, Texas, and a brother William Clifford Aday and his wife Nell of Bullard Texas. Also her daughter Charlotte Wadleigh and her husband Pete of Snyder, their children Jennifer Barnes and Stephen Taylor, Stephen’s wife Ashley and Jennifer’s son Patrick. Lin Boch and his wife Debra and their son Adam live in Midland.

Russell was born on July 15, 1946 in Rising Star, Texas to Floyd J and Arlie Hardy-Botts. He married Ginger Bishop on November 12, 1980 in Abilene, Texas.
Russell is survived by his wife, Ginger Botts of Rising Star; daughter, Cressi Cutting of Bronte; grandson, Seth Langford of Lubbock; granddaughter, Payton Cutting; brother, Steve Botts of Rising Star; 3 sisters, Shirlene McCollum of Peru, IN; Judy Fink of Cisco; Jeanette Mitchell of Abilene.

Jeanne ‘Jeanette’ A. Mitchell
Jeanne ‘Jeanette’ A. Mitchell, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 11, 2008 in Rising Star, Texas.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2008 at Higginbotham Chapel, with Rex Boggs and Pastor Ronnie B. White officiating. Burial followed in the Eastland Cemetery.
She was born on August 18, 1920 in Rems, France to Raymond and Margarett Juncker. Jeannette was a trapeze artist in her native country. She moved to the United States in 1946. She worked in the sanitation department for the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO. She met L.W. Mitchell in Boulder, in 1966 and they married on June 9, 1967 in Lafayette, CO. In 1973 she and L.W. moved to Texas in the Cross Plains, Rising Star area. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cross Plains. Her favorite scripture was John 3:16-17.
Survivors include her husband, L.W. Mitchell of Rising Star; daughter, Monique Graham of Johnstown, Colorado; grandsons, Scott and Brian Graham; 3 great-grandchildren; and several family members in Paris, France.
Ben W. McKinnis
Ben W. McKinnis, 82, of Bella Vista, Arkansas died Friday, January 11, 2008 at Northwest Medical Center of Benton County in Bentonville, Arkansas.
He was born on January 1, 1926 in Delhi, Louisiana to Ben W. McKinnis, Sr. and Ollie Belle McCandlish McKinnis.
He served in the Army Medical Corp in WW II in the Pacific Theatre, after which he graduated from Louisiana State University. He retired after 35 years with Texas Utilities. He performed various civic duties among these being President of the Lion’s Club, President of the Chamber of Commerce, member of Hospital Board, member of Boy’s Choir Board, Citizen of the Year, Breckenridge, Texas, and others. He and his wife moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas in 1992 where he retired from the Bentonville School District. He belonged to Bella Vista Baptist Church and sang in the choir there.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, one brother and one sister.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Jane McKinnis of the home; two sons, Jeffrey Kyle McKinnis of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Kevin Layne McKinnis of Lubbock, Texas; two granddaughters, Reilly Layne McKinnis of Lubbock and Jessica Jae McKinnis of Abilene; one sister, Emogene Brickey of Ft. Worth, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Private burial was planned at the request of the deceased. Arrangements are under the direction of Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, AR 72715.

Matt M. “Dutch” Sparks, 93, of Lexington, OK passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at Home in Lexington, OK.
Funeral services were at 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 13, 2008 at Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Charlotte Farrell officiating. Burial was in the Rising Star Cemetery in Rising Star, Texas with Higginbotham Funeral Home of Rising Star in charge.
Matt was born on June 21, 1914 in Featherston, OK to Matt B. and Charlotte Black-Sparks. He married Eunice Mayfield on July 25, 1938 in Carlsbad, NM.
Matt is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Eunice Sparks; his parents; 7 siblings, brothers, Hutton; Shirley; Haskel Sparks; sister, Maxine Farrell; twin brother and sister, Rud and Ruth Sparks; brother, Woody Sparks.
Forrest Douglas Seabourn
Cisco- Forrest Douglas Seabourn, age 60, of Cisco, went to be with the Lord on January 13, 2008 after an eight year battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Corinth Baptist Church. Interment followed at the Corinth Cemetery under the direction of the Summers-Chambers Funeral Home.
Forrest was born February 19, 1947, in Cisco. He married Sharon Jane Hall, daughter of Rowena Cook Hall, on April 22, 1965. Forrest served his country from 1965-1969 as a member of the United States Air Force. He was currently employed as a toolpusher for Sand Dollar Drilling.
He was preceded in death by his parents Marion Joseph and Opal Doyle Seabourn; two brothers Darvin Frank and “Buddy” Seabourn; a son, Forrest Douglas II; and two grandchildren, Douglas Grey Seabourn II and Joseph Blake Seabourn.
Forrest is survived by his wife, Sharon Jane Seabourn; his eldest son, Douglas Seabourn, his wife Denise and their four children, Tianna, Forrest III, Savanna and Brianna Seabourn; his middle child, Johnny Seabourn, his wife Rhonda and their three children, Ciandra, Chayton and Caden Seabourn; his daughter Sherry Beth, and Tony Stephenson, and her two children, Johnathan Seabourn and Sha Fleming; youngest son, Johnathan Seabourn; five brothers, Marion Gayle and his wife Carmen, Larry, Dale and his wife Adale, Joseph and his wife Andrea and Kendyl Seabourn; a sister-in-law, Mary Beth Gosnell and multitudes of nieces, nephews and cousins.

John D. Isenhower
Putnam--John D. Isenhower, age 93, of Putnam, Texas, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2008, at his home.
Services was to be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2008, at the First Baptist Church of Baird, Texas. Interment was to follow at Putnam Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Parker Funeral Home of Baird, TX.
A visitation was be held last Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
John D. was born July 30, 1914, in Putnam, Texas to William Martin and Ruth Jones Isenhower. He graduated from Putnam High School in 1932 and attended Abilene Christian College for two years from 1932 to 1934. On September 18, 1936, John D. married Roberta Nell Pruet, daughter of Elison and Rubye Gunn Pruet, and to this marriage nine children were born. He was a rancher and a life long resident of Putnam, living on the home place his father bought in 1879. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
He served as Mayor of Putnam for several terms. For many years he coached football for the Putnam Panthers, and was on the Putnam School Board for 30 years. He also served several terms on the Callahan County Hospital Board. John D. was one of the founders of The Lower Clear Fork of the Brazos Soil and Water Conservation District, and was on the board for 25 years, where he had served as President. He was named an Outstanding Farmer of the Year by this organization. He had been a NOAA weather observer since 1946.
John D. was a member of the Putnam Masonic Lodge #1047, where he was raised to Master Mason on January 12, 1945. He was District Deputy Grand-Master of the 74th District during 1948-49. He served as Secretary of the Putnam Lodge from 1953 until it merged with the Baird Lodge #522 in 1979. He became a dual member of the Cross Plains Lodge #627, and remained consistently active in both lodges over the years. He conferred innumerable Masonic Degrees, had taught many brothers in the work, held virtually every Masonic certification and distinction, including the Golden Trowel Award in 1991, and had been Worthy Patron of the Cisco Chapter #461, Order of the Easter Star nine times.
John D. was an honorable and noble man who readily contributed to his family, his community, his Lodge, and to humanity.
He was preceded in death by his brothers C. M. Isenhower and Jodie Isenhower, and his sister Dorris Isenhower Freeman.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta Isenhower of the home: five daughters: Mary Helen Green and ”Beth” Petty, both of Putnam, TX, Linda Fiore of Houston, TX., Gay McClenan of Arlington, TX, and Elaine Reynolds of Abilene, TX; four sons: John Doyle Isenhower of Putnam, TX., James Royce Isenhower of Coleman, TX, David Isenhower of Sherman, TX, Donald Isenhower of Abilene, TX., 28 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild. and several nieces and nephews.

Lova Genee Morton
Lova Genee Morton, age 88, of Wink, passed away Monday, January 14, 2008 at her residence.
She was born January 7, 1920 in Eastland, TX.
Genee married the love of her life, A.C. on December 5, 1936 in Eastland. They settled in Wink and became members of The First Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Her grandchildren were the highlight of her life and she enjoyed watching them play sports. In her spare time she loved working in her yard and cooking.
Those left behind to mourn her loss include three sons: Allen O. Morton and wife Carol, of Stockton, MO; Toby Morton and wife Dianne, of Snyder TX, and Raleigh Morton of Wink; one daughter: Helen Voyles and husband Billy, of Wink ; one brother; Billy Newell of Houston, TX; twelve grandchildren: Allen Calvin, Jimmy Wayne Morton, Scotty O. Morton, Teresa Lynn Morton, Sherry Morton, Bart Morton, Heath Morton, Lacy Morton, Lara Morton, Billy Voyles Jr., Vickie Crawford, and Jackie Voles; fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
After 67 years of marriage, she was preceded in death by her husband A.C. Morton, who passed away on March 27, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Robert Ernest and Lillian Beatrice (Williamson) Newell; one sister, Violet Mae Wells; one brother, Bobby Newell and one grandchild, Brett Morton.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 17, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Wink, TX., officiated by Brother Richard Ray. Her grandsons were the pallbearers. Interment followed at Kermit Cemetery. Services were entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Carlene Conner, 73, of Cisco passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2008 in Mesquite, Texas.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 18, 2008 at First Baptist Church, officiated by Reverend Pepper Puryear. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, under the direction of Kimbrough Funeral Home. Visitation was at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 Thursday evening.
Carlene was born in Cisco, Texas on May 28, 1934 to Carl Leslie and Etha Eliza (Sparks) Pence. She married Robert Eugene (Bob) Conner on May 4, 1973 in Cisco; he preceded her in death on May 19, 2001. Before retirement, she was employed as Comptroller at Cisco Junior College. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was a choir member for many years. She also was a member of Cisco Service Club. After the death of her husband, she completed his term on the Graham Memorial Hospital Board.
She is survived by her son, Ronny Powelson and wife, Leisha, of Duncan, OK; daughter, Donna Frasier and husband, Lanny, of Mesquite; brother, Jerry Pence and wife, Carolyn, of Cisco; grandchildren, Justin Frasier and wife, Wendi, of Cisco, Kimberly Cantu and husband, Jeramey, of Arlington, Courtney Powelson of Norman, OK; and great granddaughter, Jaylan Frasier of Cisco.
Pallbearers were Manning Davis, Jim Puryear, Bobby Smith, Charles Wetsel, Gerald Davis and Butch Willingham.

Lela was born in Pueblo, Texas on October 5, 1933 to John (Leslie) and Ida Ruth (Gann) Griffith. She was raised and attended school in Moran. She later met and married Claude Audrey Rodgers on March 11, 1955 in Ranger. In 1962 they made their home in the Ranger community. Lela worked for Quality Food Market, the Five and Dime, Ben Franklin, Ranger Athletic and even a period of time at the Ranger Hospital. She worked at Ranger School Cafeteria for 20 years. She was always involved in the elections around Ranger helping to count votes. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church and was involved in the activities there. She loved to sew and crochet.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Delores, and a brother Gene.
She is survived by her husband Audrey; two daughters, Linda Weeaks and Nelda Poulson; two sons, Roy and Gilbert Rodgers; a sister Betty Polk; 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren with another on the way.
A.R.’Rico’ Beneventi
MINGUS- A. R. “Rico” Beneventi, 93, of Mingus passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2008.
Mass was at 10:30 AM Saturday, January 19, 2008 at St. John Catholic Church with Father Philip McNamra officiating. Rosary was said on Friday evening at 7 PM at Edwards Funeral Home in Strawn, Texas. Burial followed the Mass in Mt. Marion Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Strawn, Texas.
Rico was born on March 2, 1914 in Thurber, Texas to Leopoldo and Angelina Beneventi. He served in the 3rd Armored Division during World War II, spending most of the time in France. He worked in pipe line construction for a number of years. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Strawn and the Thurber Historical Society and volunteered many hours to both. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bert and Eugene Beneventi, three sisters Delphina Callan, Mary Danner Ledbetter and beloved nephew, the late Robert Dean Beneventi of San Diego California.
Rico is survived by two nephews, Alvin Danner and wife Catherine of Shamrock, TX and Joseph Callan of San Marcos, TX, and a niece Mary Angelina Snyder of Bellevue, WA., and several great nephews and nieces.
James F. Houx
FORT WORTH --- James F. Houx, 80, of Fort Worth and formerly of Gordon, passed away on Wednesday at a Fort Worth nursing home.
Services were held at 2 PM Saturday, January 19, 2008 in the First Baptist Church in Gordon with Rev. Michael Orsini officiating. Burial will be in New Gordon Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Strawn, Texas.
Mr. Houx was born on May 26, 1927 in Gordon, Texas to Frank Everett and Mona Irene (Mott) Houx. He was a graduate of Gordon High School and attended Tarleton State University and Texas A & M. James entered the Navy during World War II and before being shipped out the war ended. James married Clara Jean Sharp on January 26, 1951 in Gordon, Texas and she preceded him in death on October 31, 2006. James worked all of his life on the family ranch, raising cattle and also had a dirt working business and later with his son they had Houx Construction. He was a member of the Texas Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge AF & AM of Stephenville, and served on the board of the Barton Creek Water Co-op. James was a member of the Western Hills Baptist Church in Fort Worth.
James is survived by a daughter Carla Houx of Benbrook, a son Frank Houx and wife Joanie of Aledo, grandchildren; Jordan, Casey and Kylie, and numerous other extended family and friends.
Loy Knust
BRECKENRIDGE- Loy Knust, 86, of Breckenridge died Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at Eastland Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2008 at Morehart Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Rex Boggs officiating. Burial followed in the Post Oak Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
Ervin Loyal ‘Loy’ Knust was born on January 12, 1922 in Delavan, Illinois to parents Amos Simon Knust and Estella Mae Christy. He grew up and attended school in West Salem, Illinois. Loy served in the United States Army during WW II. After his honorable discharge from the military Loy moved to Texas where he met Lois O’Dell Harpool. They were married on May 8, 1949 in Eastland, Texas. Loy worked for Coastal States Gas as a pumper until his retirement in 1983. Following the death of his wife he married Clara Belle Miller Martin on January 10, 1998 in Breckenridge. Loy was a member of Gunsight Baptist Church. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Masonic Lodge No. 492, as well as the VFW Post 7767 and American Legion Post 191.
Loy was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois; one brother, Robert Knust; three sisters, Vernice Balding, Loretta Lopp and Nila Jean Knust; and one grandson, Roy Wendell Knust.
Loy is survived by his wife, Clara Knust of Breckenridge; one son, Joe Knust and wife, Lydia, of Breckenridge; one daughter, Janice Stewart and husband, Alan, of South Padre Island; three step-sons, Jimmy Martin and wife, Linda of Colorado, Donnie Martin and wife, Noi of Fort Worth and Steve Martin and wife, Pam of Breckenridge; one step-daughter, Kay and husband, Ronnie Gilbert of Wichita Falls; two sisters, Bonnie Mason and Joyce Slunaker, both of Olney, IL; five grandsons, Joe Brian Blackman of Diboll, Loy Brent Blackman and wife, Traci of Devine, Joel Ray Knust and wife, Missi of Fort Worth, Trent Parrish and wife, Janet of Kingsland, GA and Justin Shirley and wife, Laci of Breckenridge; three granddaughters, April Geisheimer and husband, Jon of Fribourg, Switzerland, and Angel Knust and Kara Malcuit, both of Breckenridge; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Doris Jean Harrelson Allen
Doris Jean Harrelson Allen died January 17, 2008 at Abilene Regional Hospital after a brief bout with double pneumonia.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 21, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Potosi Baptist Church with Bro. Donny Harbers and Bro. Jim McCurley officiating. Burial followed at Nimrod Cemetery in Nimrod, Texas at 3 p.m. directed by Piersall Benton Funeral Directors.
Jean was born July 17, 1926 to Herman Harrelson and Lucille Stamford Harrelson. She attended schools at Nimrod, Scranton and Cisco, graduating from Cisco High School in 1944. She married Chester L. “Chet” Allen, Jr. on October 11, 1948 at her parent’s home in Cisco.
Chet and Jean lived in Buckeye and Hobbs, N.M., Frankel City, Midkiff, Goldsmith and Odessa, TX. They lived in Odessea twice for a total of 25 years. While in Odessa she was employed by Ector High School as a bookkeeper-clerk and switchboard operator. She taught many students how to operate a switchobard until she was forced to retire due to chronic asthma in 1977.
In 1985 they moved to the Denton Valley area where they grew pecans and enjoyed retirement.
She was a member of the Baptist church since her conversion at age 12. She was a very loving and outgoing person with only one prejudice, Ignorance.
Jean is survived by her husband, Chester L. “Chet” Allen, Jr. of Denton Valley; a daughter, Lynda and husband Jeff Singletary of Houston; a son, Randy and wife Susan Allen of Taylor, MS; and three grandchildren, Shea Whetsell of Little Elm, TX., Justin Allen of Taylor, MS, and Shayne Higdon of Fort Worth, TX.; two sisters, and husbands, Melba Ray and Dann Barger of Brownwood and Lavonne and Ben Jaramillo of Abilene; four nephews; and many cousins and family and friends who loved her very much.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Charles Mahaffey
RANGER -- Charles Mahaffey, 85, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2008.
Services will be Thursday, January 24, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Ranger with burial following in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be come and go Wednesday evening. Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home.
Charles was born on July 16, 1922 to Hugh and Clara (Goss) Mahaffey. He married his wife Marie on June 8, 1946 in Ranger. He worked as a rural mail carrier in Ranger for about 35 years and was a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association. He was also a lifetime member of the DAV.
He is preceded in death by his wife in 2004.
He is survived by his children, David Mahaffey and wife Danna of San Angelo, Randall Mahaffey and wife Suellen of Garland, and Cheryl Taylor of Aubrey; two brothers, Dale and Ernest Mahaffey; two sisters, Vaneta Rhodes, and Joyce Bennett; and grandchildren, Kim and Kyle Taylor, Kristin Mahaffey, Lindsey and Laura Mahaffey; and a sister and brother in law Rudolph and Opal Little.

Gloria Stewart Prock
Gloria Stewart Prock died Sunday, January 20, 2008 at the age of 85.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Greg Kennedy officiating; burial followed in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Gloria was born in Desdemona, TX on January 7, 1923; she was the only child of Claude and Clara Stewart of Hamlin. She graduated from Texas Tech in 1943 with honors, earning a BBA degree in Secreterial Skills.
Not long after graduating from Tech, she met the love of her life, Edward C. Prock and on Valentine’s Day, 1945 they were married until his death in 1982. The two of them relocated to El Paso, and in 1952 they adopted their only child, Nancy Dianne Prock. The family returned to Abilene and was welcomed by many old friends in the winter of 1961.
She was a gifted pianist; she played for groups that she belonged to and for her many special friends whom she loved and held dear. She was an active member of the St. Paul Methodist Church of Abilene, Abilene Women’s Club, Carpe Diem Study Club and was an avid bridge player.
She is survived by her daughter Nancy and husband Scott Meeks of San Marcos; granddaughters, Kelli Meeks of San Antonio, Kristin Meeks of San Marcos; great-grandchildren, Dasian and Caleb Meeks and Saori Gomez all of San Antonio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband and a granddaughter, Valerie Nicolle Meeks.

Betty J. Zoellick, 76, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2008.

Betty Zoellick was born August 22, 1931, in Ft. Worth the daughter of the late Wesley and Lillie Blackwell. She retired after 26 years in banking with Azle State Bank, Bedford State Bank and Bank of America. Mrs. Zoellick loved to travel in her R.V. and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Bobbie Jo Clark.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer of Springtown; sons, J. B. Dave Fergason
Services for Dave Fergason, 85, of Slaton and formerly of Rising Star, were held at 2 PM Tuesday, January 22, 2008 in Cross Plains Church of Christ with burial following in Rising Star Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service in Slaton.
Dave was born November 25, 1922 in Knowles, NM, he passed from this life Saturday, January 19, 2008 in Slaton. He married Oleta Lucille Fraizer on July 3, 1941 in Lueders. Oleta preceded him in death on October 29, 2007. They previously lived in Hobbs, NM, Denver City, Cross Plains, Brownfield, Lueders and Rising Star before moving to Slaton in May of 2007. He was a Naval veteran of WWII.
Dave worked as a carpenter, plumber, dairyman and roustabout.

James Garland ‘Jimmie’ Lee
James Garland “Jimmie” Lee, 83, of Cisco passed away Monday, January 21, 2008, at Homestead Nursing and Rehab of Cisco.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at 10:00 AM in Oakwood Cemetery officiated by Reverend Bobby Lee and under the direction of Kimbrough Funeral Home. Visitation was at 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Lee was born September 1, 19 24 , to Earl Samuel and Lavada Bernice (Sims) Lee in Ranger, Texas . He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II from 1942 to 1946. He married Norma Jeanne Hansen on January 1, 19 48 in Clovis , New Mexico . Jimmie retired from WTU where he was a line foreman; he was also a rancher and was a long time member of First Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Lee of Cisco; daughters, Caddye Claborn and husband Frank of United Arah Emirates, Caryn Greene and husband Russ; sons, Bobby Lee and wife Sharon and Tommie Lee and wife Cathy all of Cisco; brother, Sherman Lee and wife Patti of Tuson, AZ; grandchildren, Brent Lee and wife Dawn, Tavia Davis and husband Nathan, J.J. Lee and wife Mandi, Jenna Wood and husband Lee, Kerstin Winge and husband Karl, Niki Bundick and husband Ben, Cullen Greene, Cassye Roark and husband Ken and Jali Greene; great grandchildren, JD Lee, Eva Lee, Alesse Davis, Macen Davis, Gavyn Lee, Pyper Lee, Kilye Winge, Jake Bundick and Isaac Roark.
Pallbearers are Russ Greene, Cullen Greene, J.J. Lee, Brent Lee, Frank Claborn and Tommie Lee.
Jerry Louise Burgess
Jerry Louise Burgess, 37, a lifelong resident of the Baird/Clyde area, died Monday at a Lubbock hospital.
Memorial services were to be held Friday at 11:00 a.m.at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Hall Officiating.
Jerry was born November 29, 1970 in Ruidoso, N.M. to James Clifford and Doris Jean (Pinkston) Burgess. She was a 1988 graduate of the Baird High School. She attended Vernon Junior College. She worked as a nurse’s aide for the Clyde Nursing home and was previously employed by the Dairy Queen. She attended the Clyde Church of Christ.
Survivors include her parents, Clifford and Doris Burgess of Baird; one son, Dillon Burgess of Clyde; one daughter, Michaela Owens of Clyde; three brothers, Matt Berry of Clyde, Texas; Terry Burgess of Baird and Tom Burgess and wife Dina of Clyde; two sisters, Carolyn Caddell of Clyde and Irene Kelly and husband James of Baird and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Barbara Anna Ford Thackerson
RANGER- Barbara Anna (Ford) Thackerson, 62, passed away January 22, 2008.
Services were held Friday, January 25, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Ranger. Visitation was from 7-8:30 Thursday. Burial was in the Merriman Cemetery. Services are by Edwards Funeral Home.
Barbara was born on August 18, 1945 in San Diego, California to Emery and Ovella (Sunday) Ford. They moved to Ranger in 1950 and Barbara stayed and raised her own family. She was very involved in the community. She was a Girl Scout leader and avid lover of water sports especially water skiing. She was devoted to her family and home. For many years she did home health and treated her patience’s like family. She also loved animals and was known to take care of many strays. Barbara developed breast cancer and was a proud survivor for the past two and a half years.
She is preceded in death by parents and two brothers, Emery Eugene Jr and Thomas Briggs Ford.
She is survived by her children, Rex, Albert, Christy, and Jeff Thackerson; grandchildren, Matt, Lisa, Roddy, Tara, Jami, Meagan, and Peyton Thackerson, Aaron Hoots, Mariea Freeman and five great-grandchildren.
John Walton McCaskill
John Walton McCaskill, Jr, 95, known as “J.W.” to all, died January 16, 2008 in Pasadena, TX.
J.W. was born August 24, 1912, in Sylvester, TX and married Helen Gray June 2, 1937 in Monahans, TX. He proudly served in the 14th and 10th Armies in WW II in Southeast Asia and was a past president of the Houston Basha of the China-Burma-India veteran’s organization. He received the Bronze Star Medal for his actions during his service in China, as well as the China Medal from the Republic of China. He was a charter member of Pipefitter’s Local Union 211, and retired from Union Carbide’s Texas City plant in 1980. He has lived in his home in South Houston, Texas since 1951.
After retirement, J.W. and Helen lived an active life, traveling the USA and dancing at Country & Western dances several times a week until her death in 1986. J.W. attended Faith Methodist Church in South Houston from 1951 until it moved, and then became a member of 1st Methodist Church, Pasadena. J.W. was an inspiration to all his friends and relatives. His restless curiosity, imagination, tinkering and the many devices and gadgets he made will live on in memory. He was a “doer”, always busy doing something, never happy to sit back and relax. He would plan a project in his mind for months or years, and then it would suddenly happen. A child of the depression, his frugality was legend among his family, along with his generosity.
J.W. was preceded in death by his brother Spears, sister Fern and twin sisters Irene and Florene. He is survived by son John and his wife JoAnn, daughter Jeanette and her husband Bill Stoltz, grandchildren John, Jan, Tracy, Teri and Carrie and their spouses, 10 great grandchildren and his dear friend Norean Timmins. The family wishes to thank his caregiver Mary Henley for her devotion and help. Without the loving assistance she has provided, he would have been unable to live at his own home these past few years.
A Celebration of Life Service was held at SouthPark Funeral Home.
Carrie Pearl Wadley Adams
Carrie Pearl Wadley Adams, 93, died Sunday, January 27, 2008 in Plano, Texas.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2008 at the First Church of the Nazarene, with Rev. Garland Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, under the direction of North’s Funeral Home. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. January 30, 2008 at North’s Funeral Home.
Carrie was born March 26, 1914 in Cisco, Texas to Ezra and Emma Myrtle Wadley. Carrie was a lifelong resident of the Abilene and Cisco areas. She married Charles ‘Macon’ Adams, July 15, 1933 in Cisco, Texas. Carrie was a stay at home wife and mother. She was dedicated to her God, her church and her family. She lived in Abilene until December 2002, when she and Macon moved to Dallas. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Abilene.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ezra and Emma Myrtle Wadley; her husband of 72 years, Charles Macon Adamas; three brothers, Marshall, Gordon and Elbert Wadley and three sisters, Lennie Sage, Berniece Adamas and Eunice Collins; one grandson, Douglas McDonald; one great-grandson Joshua Holden.
Survivors include one daughter, Joan McDonald and her husband, Robert of Plano; one son, Charles Adams and his wife, Joyce of San Jose, CA; sister, Dottie Taylor of Rio Linda, CA.; four grandchildren, Lisa McDonald of Farmersville, TX, Danielle ‘Adams’ Giesbrecht of Abbotsford, BC Canada, Regina ‘Adams’ Holden and husband, Dave and Keith Adams and wife, Jeanette all of San Jose, CA; 11 great-grandchildren, Traci Lee ‘McDonald’ Stoehner and Rickey Lynn ‘McDonald’ Black, Katelin, Aaron and Ben Giesbrecht, Sarah, Rebekah and Caleb Holden, and Strider and McCartney Adams; one double niece and her husband, Lori and Harold Mall and many dearly loved nieces, nephews, and family.

Wilma Cagle
Eastland - Wilma Cagle, age 78, passed away on January 24, 2008.
Funeral services were held at 2 PM on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Eastland City Cemetery with Pastor Bart Burgess officiating.
Wilma Ruth Hallmark was born on December 23, 1929 in Gorman to George David Hallmark and Ozy Leslie (Eison) Hallmark. Wilma attended Gorman Schools. She married Billy “Bill” Wayne Cagle on May 25, 1946 in DeLeon, Texas. They were blessed with four children; Marsha, David, Nita, and Jack. Wilma enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her family. The couple attended the Church of Christ.
Wilma loved to quilt. Quilting was a large part of her life and she made beautiful pieces for her family. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and gardening. Her family will also fondly remember all of the great times they had at the bowling alley with Wilma. She had a competitive spirit and loved to win.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Billie Wayne Cagle in December of 1974, her sister, Dean Reynolds, and her brothers Bill, Horce, Thomas, Bid and Bob Hallmark.
She is survived by her children; Marsha Cagle Armstrong of Clyde, David Cagle of Austin, Nita Cagle Hooper of Clyde, Jack Cagle of Conroe, her sisters; Nell Aldridge of Eastland, Joy Rogers of Gorman, Sue Burrows of Breckenridge, and her grandchildren.
Raymond Shoe
EASTLAND-- Raymond Shoe, age 73, known by friends and family as “Ray”, passed away on January 26, 2008 at his home in Ranger.
Funeral services were held at 2 PM, Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at Eastland Cemetery with Dr. Shawn Brewer from First Baptist Church officiating. Services were held under the direction of the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home in Eastland.
Ray Shoe was born March 24, 1934 in Sidney, Ohio to Edward Shoe and Bessie (Gates) Shoe.
He was a paperhanger by trade until his retirement. He honored his country by serving in the United States Army Reserves. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandsons, Eric Shoe and Sherman Dean; his brothers, Ed Shoe, Bob Shoe, and Bud Shoe; and his sister, Gladys Koller.
Ray is survived by Barbara McGinnis; his children; Roger Reed of Cisco, Paul Reed of Fort Worth, Donna Hobbs of Ranger, Erica Shoe of Cisco; his brother Richard Shoe of Ohio; and his sisters, Dorothy Landburg of Ohio and Mary Cory of Ohio, and 13 grandchildren.
Marie Hart Brock
CISCO--Marie Hart Brock of Abilene and formerly of Cisco, with her family by her side, peacefully went to be with the Lord, Monday, January 28, 2008 at an Abilene hospital.
She was born to Judge John S. and Bessie Hock Hart, June 9, 1925 in Eastland. She graduated from Eastland High School in 1943. Marie married her high school sweetheart, Wayne Brock, on June 9, 1943, and they celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in 2005. He preceded her in death in 2006. Marie worked as the secretary and organist for the East Cisco Baptist Church for over 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bessie Hart, brothers; John L. Hart and Toby Hart, and grandson, Jason Neal Gray.
She is survived by daughters, Carolyn and husband Mike Allen of Salado, Pam and husband Michael Miller of Abilene, Cindy and husband Steve Madison of Crane; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. January 31, 2008, at Kimbrough Funeral Home Chapel in Cisco; burial will be in the Eastland Cemetary, directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home. Visitation, with the family, will be at the funeral home from 12:30 until time for the funeral service.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Grace Wallace
RANGER- Grace Wallace, 98 of Ranger passed away on Friday, January 25, 2008 at her son’s home.
Services were held at 10:00 AM Monday, January 28, 2008 in the Mesquite & Rusk St. Church of Christ and burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Ranger, Texas.
Grace was born on January 26, 1909 in Young County to Edward Rutledge and Lou Ella (Luman) Singleton. She was a graduate of Woodson High School to the 11th grade and Breckenridge High School to finish the 12th grade and she attended Business College. Grace married Lonnie E. “Shorty” Wallace in September 6, 1928 in Breckenridge Texas and he preceded her in death on May 4, 1978. She worked for many years at Greer’s Western Store, ran the Lone Star Chicken Inn, worked for Tommy’s Grocery and for Mary Huling in her fabric store. She loved to oil paint deer and nature scenery, as well as many other outdoor activities. Grace was a faithful member of the Mesquite & Rusk St. Church of Christ for 70 years and was dearly loved by her church family. The last few months of her life she looked forward to Don Adams bringing communion to her. Grace was the last of her generation in the Wallace and Singleton Family. She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. She was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and had many many friends. Grace passed away one day before her 99th birthday.
Grace is survived by her daughter Christene Ready of Ranger, a son Eddy Wallace and his wife Carol of Strawn. Grandchildren; Leta Guest and husband Richard of Fort Worth, Belinda Morgan and husband Tim of Eastland, Bobbie Wallace of Gordon, Joanna Barron and husband Jeremy of Ranger, step-granchildren Caren Alvis and James of Spingtown and Hank Morgan and wife Mimi of Ranger, great-grandchildren Christopater Alford, Ashley and Brittany Sharp, Orin Mallory, McGregor, Sawyer, and Oliver Barron, step great-grandchildren Matthew Morgan and wife Tonya, Kristen Morgan, Gage and Lee Grogan and Andrew Alvis. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends.

Kathlene ‘Kathy’ Jones
CISCO--Kathlene “Kathy” (Wilson) Jones, age 41, went to be with her Lord on January 24, 2008.
Funeral services were held at 2 PM on Monday, January 28, 2008 at Nimrod Cemetery under the direction of Summers-Chambers Funeral Home with pastor Ray Commander officiating.
Kathlene Wilson was born on January 11, 1967 in Cortez, Colorado to Robert G. Wilson and Patsy Ruth Suddereth.
Kathy was a member of the Robertson County Christian Faith Center. She loved spreading the Word of our Lord Almighty to her beloved friends, family, and even strangers. She took pride in being “Mimi” to all of her grandkids, and she will be missed by all. May she rest in peace.
Kathy was preceded in death by both of her parents, three sisters, and one brother.
She is survived by her husband Edward Jones of Baird; three sons, Ricky Lee Villanueva and wife Lindy of Baird, Timothy (T.J) Wilson of Houston, and Leo Flores of Abilene; four daughters, Shaleen Rivera Gonzolaz and husband Martin of Amarillo, Asia Morrison and husband Cornelius of Hearne, Kimberly Meredith and husband Ernest of Eastland, and Jessica Hayes of the Metroplex area; along with 11 grandchildren, five sisters, and four brothers. She is also leaving behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
